Anyone ever been before, I'm from alittle East of Toronto, so it wouldn't be too far for me. What are the crowd and set times like. I'd hate to go and find out DFA are only playing for 45 minutes.
I've been the last 5 years. The early sets are 45-50mins and by late afternoon they are an hour. The headliners get 90mins. DFA will most likely get an hour.
This fest operates the same as most intercity fests. They have late night sets but you have to pay for them separate and the are right downtown not on the Island.
The line up that they have, is this final? Or will they have additions? My expectation vs. the resulting lineup didn't match so I'm semi-satisfied, but hoping that there'll be more to add.
Also would you have an idea what the "special edition" passes are???? My friend's been bugging me to go for the past 5 years, but never considered going until this year!
There should be a bunch of adds, especially considering that they have added an extra day this year. Rumor has it that we may see some as early as next week.
The special edition pass is just a souvenir pass. It's made of plastic and changes when you move it in the light, at least that was the case last year. The normal tickets are just your run of the mill cardboard tickets.
I need to see the day by day line up next week, but if The Flaming Lips, DFA, and Beirut are all son sat/sun then I will buy the "classic" pass and go to this. Maki, suggest some cheap places to stay. Last year I got a hotel wayyy out in the suburbs, it would be nice to be a little closer.

Well, this turned out exactly like last year. One fanTASTIC day for me, and then the rest is so-so. I will definitely be buying a single day ticket for Sunday though. Soft Bulletin, Beirut and eels are enough to get my $75.
^^^ you're right, but Saturday really need another "bigger" name. + it's good for me because I'm pretty sure that I'm only going to get the sat + sunday package.
continued Sunday domination with the addition of Frightened Rabbit. I'm definitely getting the one day now, just have to sell off a couple other tickets I had for that weekend first.

I'm pretty happy with their addition as well. Sunday will def be a good day.
To whose who have done the Osheaga experience before, how many stages are we dealin' with here? I'm considering making this trip for Charles Bradley alone, believe it or not.
It's 4 stages. Two main stages that are side-by-side that go back and forth all day and two other stages on different parts of the grounds.
It's in a pretty great setting. It takes place on the Island that was built out of the dirt dug up when they were building the metro system (subway). The Island was originally used for Expo 67. Behind the main stages you get and incredible view of the downtown skyline. I will try to find some pictures to post.
Oh and there is the Piknic Electonik area which is where most of the dj's do there thing. Piknic is also a weekly event help on the island in the summer. piknicelectronik.com/en/

He is also playing a cheap show in Brooklyn this summer. Don't get too excited now
Didn't even realize Janelle Monae was there on Friday too -- I'm thinking a hundred bucks is worth it for her and Charles Bradley. Then again I'd pay a hundred bucks for half an hour of Charles Bradley alone...
Anyway, before I pull the trigger on this ticket for Friday, what's the vibe like at this joint? Obviously it's no Roo, but I'm very curious about the two stage set-up. Will I be able to use Roo-like strategies (go early) to get up close for an act, or because of the set-up, do people mostly stay planted throughout the day? Any input would be greatly appreciated!
Most people move around quite a bit throughout the day. I have not heard of many people staying in front of a stage all day. I have never had a hard time getting close to the stages.
Also I would not be surprised on the Friday if the majority of people show up right before Eminem's set. That is what happened the year that Coldplay headlined, there was a good crowd all day and then about an hour before Coldplay the mainstage area got crazy.
Yeah, Osheaga starts today! Boo Kid Cudi pulled out of his performance tonight due to illness. At least I'll still get sets by Charles Bradley (thanks Garageland), The Knux, Bran Van 3000, Broken Social Scene, Janelle Monae and Timber Timber and that angry white rapper again.
Update... From one Kid to anther Kid Koala has stepped in for Cudi. This is great new for me, I love Kid Koala!
