Osheaga is a great 2 festival in Montreal. The skyline of the city serves as the backdrop to it. This year its being held on August 3rd and 4th. The initial line-up features, the Killers, Cat Power, Spiritualized, Iggy and the Stooges, Jack Johnson, The Back Keys, CSS, Gogol Bordello, Broken Social Scene, the Go! Team and tones more. It's gonna be a great time, this will be my 3rd year but considering I live in downtown Montreal it's not too hard to attend.
It is a long weekend in Canada, but oddly enough it is not a long weekend in Quebec. They had to have it on a Sunday and Monday because there is a Nascar (Busch) Race in town that weekend.

I'm thinking of going to this. I've got a friend up in Montreal who's been wanting me to come visit her for ages and she suggested this since she knows I missed out on Roo this year. If I go I'll probably get a one day pass and only go to Monday since I like that line-up a bit better I think - I'd LOVE to see Gogol, so that'd be great.
They've now added Metric and NERD to the SUnday. And Metric are suposed to be debueting all new material. Now if only they would add Islands to the festival.
This festival is expanding to 3days next year and is returning on the first weekend of August (a long weekend in Canada). Also to the joy of many the Nascar race has been moved to the end of the month so no more conflict with the festival.
The Dates for the 2009 fest are up. July 30, 31, Aug 1, 2. The July dates are posted as in the city (whatever that means) and the August dates are on the island (the usual festival grounds).
The initial 2009 lineup is out: Samedi le 1 aout/Saturday August 1st:
Coldplay The Roots Jason Mraz Girl Talk The Decemberists Lykke Li Elbow Josh Ritter Kitty Daisy & Lewis Winter Gloves
Dimanche le 2 aout/Sunday August 2nd:
The Beastie Boys Rufus Wainright Arctic Monkeys Crystal Castles The Ting Tings Beast The Honey Brothers Le Volume Etait Au Maximum Parlovr Mothers Fea Mothers Feathers Tickets are on sale this Friday at noon. They cost $125 (with service charges) for a weekend pass and $295 (with service charges) for a weekend VIP pass, which are in a limited number. VIP amenities include a VIP entrance, grandstands, lounges, food kiosks and vendors, and private washrooms. Single day tickets for saturday cost $74.50 and $64.50 for sunday.
i'm really hoping i can get the time off work for this. i need arctic monkeys. and, like last year, i hope they book a bunch of the lolla line up since it happens within a week of each other. maybe cold war kids? kid cudi? mstrkrft? maybe stuff like that. i hope.
They had better find a replacement for the Beastie Boys soon, they have under 2 weeks; otherwise they're going to have a lot of people wanting refunds.
Well due to the cancellation of the Beastie Boys Osheaga have added Vampire Weekend to the Sunday lineup and moved the Yeah Yeah Yeah's, like Lolla, to the Headlining spot. I'm not sure how I feel about this.
The Dates are up for the 5th annual Osheaga Music and Arts Festival. They are: July 28-29-30 in the city and July 31 and Aug 1rst for the Island part. This Festival keeps getting bigger every year, last year 55,000 attended the Island part alone.
I will likely be attending this if the lineup is decent. I could see the arcade fire being one of the headliners just because its a large festival in Quebec and they have the new album coming out. Should be a fest!
