When I mentioned Bonnaroo this past week, both my mother and my boss said "Hey, I heard on the news they might cancel that this year". I told them I was pretty sure I would have heard about it by now. I assume they both saw the same news report about reduced ticket sales and how it could impact the future of the festival. You know how those local news reports can be-- all gloom and doom.
I hope they don't cut corners on the VIP treatment

A few of us were camped out at the Which Stage on Saturday morning for Gogol/Ben Folds and we talked to a head of security. He said they had 64,000 people total.

You could tell the difference most during the late-night shows. And during Pearl Jam (largest turnout of the weekend, still didn't come close to filling the field...we were able to sit on a blanket and we weren't very far away).

I loved this amount of people. I wasn't pushed and jossled all weekend like I have been previous years. We had enough space at each show to set up our chairs and be comfortable and it was wonderful!

The thing I most enjoyed about it not being as many people was the shorter lines to get into centeroo. There was only one time I waited more than 5 minutes. Last year I waited 30+ minutes several times.

I found just the opposite - seemed no matter where we chose to sit - we got pushed and shoved by people - or almost stepped on
I pulled out the old calculator after Roo and ran some numbers. It looks like with the ticket price increase and the expanding of VIP they made about the same amount of money as last year from ticket sales.
I thought the 15000 less people felt more comfortable but I’m sure being in VIP for the first time also had something to do with that.
Myself and several other people who were camped out early Saturday at the Which Stage spoke the stage head of security, who mentioned that there were "64,000 people in that field last night for Metallica", I assume that was actually the total attendance.

But factor in rising gas prices alone and that starts really eating into any profit. My guess is they made proportionately less, but still a profit.

I was just thinking that their income from tickets was about the same as last year. If they were counting on 80,000 people and they only had 68,000 then they lost about $3,000,000 in ticket revenue.

it makes me wonder whats gonna happen next year...i heard alot of people saying they weren't going to come back to roo because of phil lesh being cut short and the whole kayne fiasco...
There's no combination of words I could put on the back of a postcard. No song that I could sing. But I can try for your heart Our dreams, and they are made out of real things Like a, shoebox of photographs With sepiatone loving Love is the answer
A little feeling in my gut that I get of late when I think about these cats running the world with hate

Meanwhile the cost of everything has risen overall a year ago by unbeforeseen rates of increase. Not since the Spanish were bringing back New Word gold by the boat load has the world seen such high inflation.

That's kind of a dumb reason not to come back in my opinion.

not for me. it shows that the promoters don't have their priorities straight. i'm not one to bash ROO, but booking kanye in the first place was their first mistake, a bigger mistake was letting kanye have his way with the schedule, and the biggest was letting him go on 2 hours late and cutting PHIL short.
that phil latenight show was the most interesting thing on the roo lineup...
