Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
I was just thinking the exact same thing. Before opening this thread I know nothing could ever beat bonnaroo, but these pictures are just stunning. I've gotta go next year.
I thought that the drive in Michigan was fairly pleasant (besides the monsoon). The drive on I-81 is the worst I've ever experienced! LOL
Hell def looks like I-81
i don't understand the hatred for I-81.... I've lived in VA for years and have never had a problem on it, and you can always fly on there. Granted i've only driven from Maryland to the end in TN, so i've never driven on the PA/NY sections(that i know of)...
Bonnaroo will always be something special to me. However, I'd really like to check out different festivals, and see what everyone has to offer. Nothing will ever take away from how special that first, shell-shocking Bonnaro experience.
And there really is no need to compare.
I take the same attitude with relationships. As far as my successful relationships have gone, each one lives inside its own shell. There's no dividing of what's better and what's worse.
Someone played until dawn every night. And the the lake front bar was in the venue. Anyone could go there. It was a little set off from all the stages though. I walked over there and checked it out, but it really wasn't that special. The music was too good to spend any time there IMO
The pics and atmosphere look fantastic! You cant always make the weather a decision maker. One thing to realize, Rothbury got extremly lucky with the weather, it could have easily been just as hot and humid as Bonnaroo or storming like crazy. The days leading up to the start had massive thunderstorms. Having great weather definitely enhances peoples moods, perception and the atmosphere
^ From the pictures i've seen, they are fake monkeys in different positions on a carousel, with a strobe light to make it look like real monkeys swinging from branch to branch.
Depending on the lineup and money situation, I might go to both Roo and Rothbury next year. That atmosphere looks incredible, and the smaller crowds are a huge plus also. It really all hinges on the lineups though, but I hope they are both great.

Freaking creative!
That's it exactly. It's actually a moving sculpture originally shown at Burning Man. There are drums at the base of the carousel. Every time you hit a drum, you make a noise and set off a strobe. When the drumming hits 'critical mass', the synchronized strobe kicks in, and the animation is revealed.
Hell no they didn't! I heard some kind of music til sunrise at least Fri and Sat night. I don't really remember on Thurs, and I'm sure they didn't on Sun because of the storm. I was up til 5ish on Fri/Sat morning and someone was still going strong. Sat/Sun morning I got up to pee at 5:30 and heard music. A big Camp Infobury crew came back to camp prob around 6:30.

Dude I-81 blows. If you get enough trucks around you it can get as scary as any road in America. I've had multiple friends hit on 81 by trucks. It blows in some places worse than others.
I hear conflicting reports on the crowd though... would you say the crowd had similar Roo vibe? Ironically I've had some of the same friends who are now championing Roth were the ones complaining about the Roo crowd, when the crowds were not that different and maybe technically more frat'ish at Roth.
Either way- very cool. If I could afford 2 fests I'd do it! But if only 1 is on my schedule it'll be the one I'm familiar with...

absolutely. Another Roanoker, right? My 40 minute commute to Blacksburg every day definitely doesn't help me in quitting cigarettes, let's just say that...
I dont like to compare festivals because there are things that I love about each one.
But, one thing that impressed me about Rothbury was the way they handled the trash. Most of the trash generated through vending (food, cups, straws, utencils, food containers, paper plates and napkins) was biodegradable. I didnt buy alot from the vendors but I remember looking at a cup and it had "compost-made from corn" on it. The schedule/map/book also had a guide on how you were supposed to seperate your trash.
Then, they had volunteers standing at nearly all of the trash cans wearing peach(?) colored shirts that said "ONE person that cares". These people would make sure that you got your trash in the right can, and pick up any stray trash in their immediate area. (wish i would have gotten a pic of the front of one of those shirts)
The concert grounds stayed cleaner than any fest i've ever been to.
I'm sure the smaller amount of people(compared to Roo) helped with keeping the trash picked up and I'm curious if they can sustain the cleanliness as the festival grows.
Rothbury is REALLY beckoning to me. Bonnaroo feels like home to me, but it could be cool to try something new. Like many people have said, it will come down to the lineup for me. Superfly, listen up! You better kill it in 2009!!

Rothbury seemed to kick it off like no one ever had. Plus Bonnaroo made several big fumbles this year.
And still I'd probably pick Bonnaroo over Rothbury, because as others said, the lineup is just of higher quality, more eclectic and more unique. The grounds at Rothbury look fantastic, but the music is always more important. It's called a music festival, after all.
However if they step up the lineup next year, I'd certainly make the switch!
yeahhh that seems pretty trippy and fun! honestly, though. of all the festivals i know of (and bonnaroo is the only one i've been to) they all seem pretty diverse... they're in like... insane habitats and the stuff you do there is completely different. that's what it's about, i think... just going somewhere where everything is completely unlike anything else you've ever done so rare we get to do that anymore...

I was planning on going to Rothbury but ended up spending the money on something that seemed pretty important. plus my sister was gonna go with me and wasnt completely into it anyway. kinda bums me out but what can ya do.
I think next year will highly depend on lineup and who I can get to go to Rothbury, should I decide that I want to go there, instead of Bonnaroo. If things go great, who knows, maybe I'll go to both, but I doubt things would go that great.
glad that the festie is clean...it is very discouraging to see lots of trash from crowds like the roo...if open-minded and environmentally friendly people like us can't keep a place clean, imagine the aftermath of the rest of the world!
About the diversity of the lineup: Personally, I thought it was great, but I'd like more indie bands next year too. I was told that this first year they really wanted to stick to the Jam band roots of music festivals. Next year they plan to branch out a little more and bring in more diverse acts.
