Just curious if any of you Roo'ers went to Rothbury and how was it different or the same as Bonnaroo. This was my second Roo and I cant imagine anything topping this spectacle even though I've never been to another festival. So I would love to hear your thoughts on this.
Absolutely cannot beat the Rothbury site! Those forest pics say it all. The grounds were beautiful and the weather was perfect. Mid-70s during the day and cold at night. I slept in until at least 11 everyday without shade over my tent.
A decent amount of sleep + not having to fight heat exhaustion all day = way better experience.
And with the size, you could get up close to anything you wanted.
I was definately a loyal Rooster, but I doubt I'll ever go back. Rothbury just blew it out of the water.

it sounds and looks amazing, but i don't know if i could ever make that assumption. i would say that Rothbury was probably really nice, but everything is just different, not necessarily better. yes/no?
i understand that Rothbury has nice weather and a lake and a forest, but does it have the amount of things to do on a daily basis as roo does? Silent Disco, arcade, jazz club, comedy tent, yoga, autograph signings, intimate performances on side stages, etc etc?
As my Inebriated buddy walks out of the Porto, he yells out, "Dude...I love this place...bonnaroo thinks about everything...they even put beer holders next to the toilet!"
Had to break it to him that that was the urnal. Good times good times!

I can't help but agree with this. I feel like every festival is different, and every person has different tastes. For example, I don't mind the heat at Bonnaroo...I'm from the south and the heat is entirely manageable to me. However, if I got cold at night I would probably be pissed. I hate being cold.
It just makes me think of my first Bonnaroo, you know? Everything was fresh and new and exciting and something I had never seen before. Of course I was like, "OMG THIS IS THE MOST AMAZING THING EVER I'M GOING TO BONNAROO EVERY YEAR" but now that I'm an old hat I'm not as easily excited. So I really think you have to factor in that "newness".
Bonnaroo has some great things to offer, and so does Rothbury. I wouldn't necessarily say that one is better than the other. Plus, I think everybody should go to Bonnaroo more than once. Your first year, you are so overwhelmed that you miss out on a lot, but once you go back you're way more prepared and get to see more and do more.
ya. i've been to bonnaroo twice and still haven't had time to do everything i've wanted... no comedy tent and no ferris wheel yet... i'm doing it in 2009. i promise! :-)
^Very different, and for me, it was better. Not necessarily for everyone though. You really can't compare it to Bonnaroo. They did have a lot of workshops during the day (yoga, hooping, poi, etc), and there was a secret stage in the forest that some not-so-small acts performed on (I didn't discover this until it was too late though). They didn't have a lot of the side things that Roo does like the silent disco and arcade, but there was way more little fun things to discover on your own. There was all kinds of cool shit to discover in the forest. There was gong therapy, hammocks to chill in, and those bamboo ball things spread out through out the site that we immediately turned into human hamster balls. There was so much going on, you definately couldn't hit everything. Plus there were the monkeys. Someone who doesn't have youtube blocked PLEASE post a video of the monkeys! Though no video could ever do it justice.
