^^Yeah, I could definitely get down with that. And if you're right, Clarity, that they are planning to branch out next year... well that makes a big difference.
And HOT DAMN, I'm so impressed by those pics of the disposal bins, and how clean the grounds were.
MoeTrain, I think there's a picture of you on the main page of the rothbury website playing guitar hero!
hahah... Yeah, that's B and I rockin' it out to Guitar Hero! We're looking fairly triumphant if I do say so myself! I remember when the guy took the pic. B and I had a bet before we got onstage. The one who lost, had to do 15 pushups on stage and do a few shots.
By the way, I'm very happy with the amount of indie acts that they have at both festivals. Needless to say, I'm not the biggest "hippie," and am definitely more into indie rock acts than bands that noodle for 8 hours. I certainly respect those acts, but it's just a preference.
I've gotta say though... The Disco Biscuits show at Rothbury was AMAZING. One of the best vibes that I've seen at any show. (The glowstick war was definitely a huge part of it... Rothbury seemed to be VERY lax with people bringing them in. Hell, people SOLD them in the Sherwood Forest!)

i'm not much into the indie scene myself. (edit, now that i think about it. what the fvck is indie anyways?? independent music?? i could babble on about it for about an hour, but i'm just going to say i hate how there has to be a Label on everything. It seems like "the scene" is about labels. electronic kids, hippies, scene kids..w/e its all so lame.)
The motto goes..."Why rock...when you can jam.." thats me.
Just remember, The Dead Love You ::end rant::

I wanted to go to both, but could only afford one. Roo won because it's so close. I'm already saving money for next year, I hope I can afford to go to both of them!
But I like to rock and jam! My life no longer makes sense! AAAHAHHHHHAHHH!!!!!!!!
See : Mars Volta. The bridge between rocking and jamming of today.
i'll probably get smited for this, but i'm getting smited anyway, so oh well
i saw the mars volta live here in austin. their show is amazing, but their music just doesn't do it for me
as for the two festivals. while i love roo, and always will, roth will be my number 1 for next year. if i can swing it, i'll go to both, but roo would have to pull off the most mind-blowing lineup in its history.

Well if you look at the lineup a majority of the bands that played rothbury have all played the roo in the past. If roo didnt try to change things up then they would not be a festival anymore and would be a thing of the past.
Now what I am hoping for is that bonnaroo does a fall festival on the farm because fall time in TN is one of the most beautiful times of the year.
PS: Also Rothbury did not have the awesomeness of the Ghostland Observatory show. One word.....epic.
"That's the big thing about education. People can be book smart, but not really intelligent about anything else. A lot of times they just taking in all this information and regurgitate it. It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."
^ From the pictures i've seen, they are fake monkeys in different positions on a carousel, with a strobe light to make it look like real monkeys swinging from branch to branch.
Freaking creative!
That's it exactly. It's actually a moving sculpture originally shown at Burning Man. There are drums at the base of the carousel. Every time you hit a drum, you make a noise and set off a strobe. When the drumming hits 'critical mass', the synchronized strobe kicks in, and the animation is revealed.
That's one of the coolest things I've heard about in a long time!
Hell no they didn't! I heard some kind of music til sunrise at least Fri and Sat night. I don't really remember on Thurs, and I'm sure they didn't on Sun because of the storm. I was up til 5ish on Fri/Sat morning and someone was still going strong. Sat/Sun morning I got up to pee at 5:30 and heard music. A big Camp Infobury crew came back to camp prob around 6:30.
Oh well... i was just going by the bootlegs (CM and Pnuma, IIRC) where they both mention shutting down because of the 4 o'clock curfew.
From what I have heard Roth lost a ton of money, I kind of wonder whether they will have it next year.
That's not what I heard. What I heard was that the locals thought it was a big hit and the city council has already approached the festival about doubling the capacity for next year. This is from a discussion we had with one of the ranch owners, Bob Lipsitz (see below) during DMB.
The ranch is having some financial problems, but it's very unlikely to have any impact on the festival continuing next year.
About the diversity of the lineup: Personally, I thought it was great, but I'd like more indie bands next year too. I was told that this first year they really wanted to stick to the Jam band roots of music festivals. Next year they plan to branch out a little more and bring in more diverse acts.
Wow, that sounds alot like what a certain festival we know did.
I think they probably expected to lose money the first few years.
But not the two to three million I heard it did. 30000 out of 60000 expected is a lot of cashola.
60k was never expected. The festival's max capacity was 50k. Going as far back as February, AEG/Madison House have always said they were anticipating 30k tickets sold. Most post-festival estimates float about 35k, so they may actually have been more successful than expected.
Personally, I expected Roth's numbers to be substantially less than Roo's... I think these are pretty decent numbers for a first time fest with little media attention.
Well I would love to go, don't get me wrong it looks great, but with 30000, and 2 deaths I just have to wonder. I am still pissed I missed echo last year, and now it is canceled.
