Was this a frat-tastic fest? I have nothing against that type, but all the pictures I've seen seem to suggest that type of crowd.
Well, i went with 12 kids from my fraternity so i guess that means it's frat-tastic. The fratmosphere was amazing...... especially at dave.
I went to Roo 4 years, from 2004-2007, and rothbury in 2008, and must say me and my crew are never headed back to TN. MI is such a smooth drive from Cuse, going through canada, and the weather is amazing. Plus, narcotics are cheaper and better. Lastly, the new type of festival is amazing to be a part of. Last year my friend was working at the gate and gave us free wristbands. We saved $300 we would have spent scalping.
The forest is absolutely amazing. I remember rolling my face off just looking at the atmosphere at Roth. Sherwood forest is one of the coolest things i've ever seen.
Only problem i had was the 5AM curfew on Saturday night's shows. My buddies and I had enough energy and artificial stimulants to last through the weekend, yet were told to go home sunday morning at 5am. I was disrespected and disappointed, as was Crystal Method.
Overall, being a loyal fan to both festivals.... no question..
i didnt have to put in a deposit. well i did have to pay 25 bucks. i was volunteering through Nomad Supply and working for M&M parking, they do bonnaroo too.
You worked for M&M? I worked with them the past two Roos and this past Rothbury. Why volunteer when your working with them though? Staff bracelet > Volunteer bracelet, plus you only have to work a shift Weds and Thurs night/day. Were you camped in the AC Tent?
My friend told me yesterday that they may not be having Rothbury again, something to do with the sale of the ranch? Is that true?
Check out infobury, they've been up to date with this. Basically it probably will happen next year, but there is the possibility it won't or it will be at a different location (doubtful). The ranch is being sold, but the people in charge (AEG Entertainment, Madison, etc.) will definetly throw up the money to buy the ranch. They'd be crazy not to. The owner just took out too many loans and now he can't pay them. I wouldn't worry about it to be honest

I was told straight from AEG that there will be another ROTHBURY and that they are confident that it will be at the ranch. It is for sale, but they think it'll still be there. If not, there are other options in the area
I have been to Bonnaroo for the last 4 years and I can't imagine not going. I went to Rothbury this year and it was great....can't imagine not going there, either.....Good people....and music.

I read they are offering it for sale in 17 separate tracts, so if AEG is not planning on buying them all, they better hope someone else does otherwise it will be difficult to have a festival there.
^Like I said, they confirmed that there will be another festival. They only said it will probably be at the ranch. There's always a possibilty that it could be at another site. They had looked at several in the area before choosing the ranch.
Also, the local rumor is that Madison House might be buying it. But that's just a rumor. I guess we'll find out at the end of the month

i really dont know what to do. I really really want to make it to roo for a third time but rothbury is only 2 hours from my house and my friend who went said he liked it a lot.

i did get the black staff wristband. which is how my friend met michael franti, not like he wasnt just walking around the fest as were many other artists.
i heard the olsen twins were at bonnaroo this year. the guys from hanson were at rothbury... haha.
I met the Hanson's there (2 of them at least) and Brett Dennen. They were all hanging out by the sound board during Phil. Of course my camera chose that moment to die, but here's a crappy cell phone pic
I hope this was all just posturing I wanted a chance to go to Rothbury
I still feel confident it will happen next year. Whoever buys the property would be absolutely insane to pass up on honoring the contract with AEG. It's a guarantee to provide a ton of income for the ranch, so why would any potential buyer choose not to host it again? I think AEG did that to pressure a decision, and I'm sure alot is happening with backdoor deals and such. AEG would have probably cancelled or announced a new location if they were serious by this point. I'd say there's still a 90% chance Rothbury will happen.
I hope so, the thing I got from the articles though is that AEG can not book bands without a decision and deal. The decision was delayed for 60 days so, and I doubt AEG will pay out to bands for a festival that might not happen. That being said who knows what is going on at this point, I am sure there are a lot of backdoor deals going down.
i hear a lot of people say bonnaroo is too big. the sheer size of it was one of the things that attracted me to bonnaroo in the first place. all these crazy people in the middle of what to me seems like nowhere. my love of the size was cemented when i really felt at one with every single person in the crowd of pearl jam, and then at the same time i felt the same way about everyone at bonnaroo including the people at camp, in other parts of centeroo, everyone at bonnaroo. it was just amazing to be able to share such an amazing experience with SOOOO MANY PEOPLE. I think i can say that is the largest gathering of people i have ever seen.
i agree, i love hot weather and i love people so the roo is great. for some reason my allergies flare up in michigan and after awhile i feel miserable. but honestly i think it depends what kind of attitude you bring with you to any festie; i went to rothbury last year after an intense argument with a friend and wasn't in the best mood all weekend, so i'm partial to bonnaroo. so i tell everyone to cruise into a festival with an open mind and don't worry about anything, just live life and enjoy yourself!
This will be my 7th Roo. I was planning on doing Rothbury instead this year till Phish was announced. Unless Bonnaroo does something absolutely astounding next year... Im gonna give Rothbury a try. The temp is definitely a factor for me (January baby who hates the heat) plus Im about right in the middle of both fests so travel wouldnt be different. I hope the lineup kills next year.
