Stephiejane - Welcome! Good for you! And if you are looking for an ice cream sub., try tofutti or skinny cow. Both are yummy and great for curbing those cravings. Good luck with fish only, sushi made with brown rice is REALLY healthy, and most sushi restaurants will make it for you if you ask.
Alessiasurfsny - How is Florida and how is your running coming? Can I say I am INSANELY jealous of you right now? I woke up to snow and ice and 13 degree weather.... blah.
onesweetla83 - How are you doing on your couch 2 5k? I would love to hear how it is working for you.
I am down 18 pounds! I have lost about a size and a half, and am getting closer and closer to my skinny jeans... still another 20 or so to go, but I'll get there.
One of the things I am looking most forward to is my best friend's wedding in July. She is having our dresses custom made and I had to send in my measurements about 2 months ago, before I started on my diet. I have my first fitting on March 15... with her and another bridesmaid. I can't wait for the seamstress to be like, "You sent me the wrong measurements!"
thank you! that is some good advice, esp the sushi part - you'd think that as much as i love sushi i would have known that! learn something new everyday

Well I got pissed at myself for lack of motivation and haven't been posting here. I've been swimming at night and eating the healthy foods. Since I've started I've lost 10lbs. It is super hard work but swimming is so much more fun than running. I look forward to getting in the pool and getting my laps done so I can sit in the 98degree therapeutic pool and rest my snake bite ankle. I have drastically cut back on the beer consumption (limiting myself to 1-2 nights of funfun a week). Also, I haven't had a Dr. Pepper or a "coke" of any kind since January 4th which is a huge accomplishment for me!
Congrats to everyone who is getting their fitness on!!! Keep it up girls (and the occasional guy who swings in here).
I'm heading to Mrytle Beach this weekend, and was REALLY hoping to play a few rounds of golf. But, it looks like it's going to rain all weekend. Bah. So, it's probably gonna be a lazy weekend for me.
Congrats on everyone's progress! And that sucks about the rain! Maybe it'll clear up a bit. It's been absolutely beautiful here the last few days. You wouldn't even know that exactly a month ago was the worst ice storm in Arkansas's history!
My story is that I've been maintaining my weight since December, which is good. I guess.
I'm getting an elliptical this weekend, so hopefully I can shed about 20 to 30 pounds before Roo. I haven't been walking at all this semester because my classes are in close proximity to the transit station, so I just have to walk across a street and up a flight of stairs, as opposed to two blocks up a hill and then up two flights of stairs!

Reading this thread has really motivated me. Yay for my birthday being in a couple weeks and my mom buying me a personal trainer! That is sure to be a great help. PLUS Im having my friends join a hiphop dance class with me!
Kbabs - that's awesome! I'm sure you are gonna do great!
The weekend at the beach was gross... rainy and cold. Now, I'm stuck inside thanks to the snow and ice storm. I'm pretty sure I kept to my diet the whole weekend, but I haven't been to my house yet (can't get up my friggin' road thanks to the ice!) to weigh myself. I hadn't seen a lot of the people there since May and they were all surprised and really impressed with how well I've done. yay! ;D
Hope all you ladies are staying warm and doing well! Remember... less than 100 days now!
I got my elliptical and I LOVE it! I've always loved running, but my knees never felt the same. I actually lost a pound since Sunday and I haven't even used it all that much. It basically serves as some good cardio, which is what I really need. I'm hoping that coupling it with a bit of yoga in the morning will get me down a few pounds before Roo!
hey ladies!! ive been working hard these last two weeks to try to get into a routine instead of work..kudos to the wii fit however if you only have WII try the wii trainer game no wii board needed and gets you moving.. Since I've back in the gym i don't use it so much but for days when your stuck it gets you up and moving!! just remember which i wish someone would have told me being healthy is a lifestyle not a quick fix keep it ladies and we will be an amazingly healthy bunch this roo!!

I would love to get an elliptical! they're my favorite workout machines! I don't have the time or the money for a gym membership, so I've been just trying to eat better and just be more active. Having a 3 month old helps lol. I carry him all the time & he's 15 lbs. They have a dvd on excercises you can do with your baby lol. I may look into that.
I'm cutting out sodas.. I know they have diet, but I just want to go without the carbonation for a while. And I've been snacking on good things like sea salted almonds, hummus, & yo plait yogurt.
I just realized that I'm the only one that control what I put into my body and how I work it, and I not only want to lose weight to look better, but I want to be healthy for myself & my family.

I haven't gained any but I haven't lost any either. I think I just need to work out b/c I don't eat all that much. Do you girls think it would be a better idea to join a gym or just go ahead and invest in a tread mill?
i say gym membership for sure.... for me a treadmill inside is sooooo boring, and i know i would totally just keep putting it off and putting it off if it were up to me to workout at home.
at least when i go to the gym i know that im going and i will work out once i get there, but to work out for a duration of time at home would just be torture!!!
See, I think I'm the opposite. My biggest hurdle is getting myself out of the house. If I had a treadmill at home, I could jump on it while watching TV.
Though you could test it out. Try walking in place while watching TV and see if you can keep that up. There are some videos called Walk Away the Pounds - super cheesy, but I will mute them and just turn on my own music. It's not complicated like a traditional aerobic video so you don't really need the full instruction. And after doing them for a while, you get the basic moves and pace so you can do it on your own.
Or see if your gym has a trial period. Or, since it's getting warmer, see if you can get yourself to walk around your neighborhood for 30 minutes at a time.
If you are successful with either for several weeks, then make the investment.
Ok, so I've been lurking in this thread for a few weeks and just wanna say it's really inspiring! I told myself and last 2 years to starting getting healthy for 'roo and just have been too lazy! I finally invested in some at home work out dvds featuing resistance training and starting planning out my meals a week in advance. It's a bit, no, A BIG challenge for me, but I really need to lose weight and get conditioned for those long walking periods.
So here I go: starting weight: 155. Goal by Bonnaroo: 125.

Hey girls! Ive still been training for the marathon, even while I was away on vacation. I'm still extremely nervous about running 13.1 miles, I'm only about 3miles into my runs and get pretty tired. Plus training on a treadmill then going outside to run is like night and day... the treadmill makes it too easy, but I was told to put it on .5 incline to help adjust to the outdoors.
an update about my fundraising. I currently have raised $570.00 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma society, but I am still 1,300 short of my required goal. I would like to exceed that goal but I want to make sure to reach the requirement first. Any donations of any amount would be extremely appreciated. ^^get it sugar!
i've been working out at the fitness facility in my building but i'm moving next week and won't have it anymore however, i WILL be riding my bike to work everyday (yay!) and i'll have space now to practice yoga at home.
i am really hoping to tone my arms without making them seem bulky and i know that's a huge challenge for most women. any suggestions??
"Walk tall, kick ass, learn to speak Arabic, love music and never forget you come from a long line of truth seekers, lovers and warriors" - Hunter S. Thompson
Yoga will really help with that. You don't think of it that way, but it does help build muscle as you're supporting your own body weight.
Also, it's really hard for women to become bulky. Our bodies just aren't designed that way. Light weights with more reps instead of heavy w/few reps is the usual mantra, but you'd have to be training A LOT to get bulky.
And keep your weights out. Then you can do a few reps while watching TV or waiting for water to boil, etc.
I've also lost another inch off my waist and another 1.5 inches off of my hips! Woot!
Wow, that's really awesome, Dani! Congrats!
I wish I could say the same, but I've totally been slacking on working out Hopefully when the warm weather is here for good, I will have more motivation! I could stand to lose about 30 pounds (in the long run), but I'd be content with 5-10 for now!!

Well I completed 30 laps today in the pool for the first time. It took a bit longer than I wanted, but with a double ear infection, sinus infection and upper respiratiory infection I think I did alright. I finally broke the 150 mark... I'm happy to say I've been in the 140's for a week, which is alright with me. I really have to decrease the beer intake though. I know that's what's keeping me from doing a lot better!
stephie - it would take a lot to actually really bulk up on any part of your body, you would have to essentially be taking a testosterone hormone supplement (steroids), OR be lifting very few reps of extremely heavy weights.... i do a lot of weights with my arms to keep them really toned and strong and they don't look bulky at all... if you're set on doing yoga try to do ashtanga yoga, which is a form of power yoga that i do twice a week. However until you're really experienced and holding very difficult asanas (poses) you'll mostly only notice a flexibility improvement... if you are interested pm me and i could send you a weight routine for your arms that you can do at home even with heavy soup/sauce cans... good luck girl!! make sure you really challenge yourself, and remind yourself that exercising shouldn't really be comfortable, you have to move outside of your comfort zone to see/feel the benefits!!
alessias - a marathon?? SWEET!!! i'm currently training for a half marathon, are you running with a group or just training on your own?? i despise the treadmill, i could never run long distances on a treadmill, i just get so bored... the outdoors is much more captivating, you should check out a book called running start to finish by john stanton im reading it now with my running program and really love it. let me know how it goes! whens your marathon?
I have this awesome yellow cocktail dress that I have only wore once (to New Year's, 3 years ago) and I tried it on the other day and it fits... AND looked good!
I'm going to LA on Friday for a wedding in Santa Monica... and now I have an outfit. I love "finding" clothes. It's been awesome going through my clothes that I thought I would never wear again and finding that some of them fit again.
Melissa - Wow, honey! I hate being sick, and that just sounds miserable. I can't imagine how bad it must have felt to swim with a sinus infection. But congrats on breaking the 140's! That's what always makes me feel the best, breaking into a new "decade."
Hope everyone is doing awesome and I know that with each other's support we are all going to be super hot (even moreso than we already are ) at Roo this year!
I read this awesome bit of advice in January and it has helped so much so I thought I would share>>>every week you start a new "good" habit. Like week 1 is just 10 pushups a day(easy right?) then you add something like crunches or lunges then the next week no sugary drinks.....and so on and so on. By the 2nd month you are so used to your "healthy habits" it seems like no biggie. Way easier than tryin to overhaul your life all at once.

^ that is a good idea!
I think so far for me limiting my diet soda to about once a week was the easiest. I used to drink diet coke everyday but now I stick water. The hardest was giving up alcohol, well try to anyway... my friends go out every weekend, plus another owns a bar, so it is very difficult. I'm also have trouble finding a proper workout time... I was going steadily but it was around 8pm and I wouldnt go to bed until 5am b/c of all the adrenaline. I've been slacking on my running since i got home from FL last Tues, so I'll have to get back into this week.
