So, I went bathing suit shopping today and realized that the long Indiana winter which I have just endured has made me look a little too much like one of the before pics you see on weight loss infomercials. I am definately beginning my roo slim down right now. I hate exercising....

hey ladies! so, i'm on a detoxing cleanse right now...i'm doing a 3-day hard cleanse coupled with a 4-day raw foods cleanse (basically the master cleanse and then 4 days of easing out)
i'm on day 4 today. i haven't been exercising on it, just to not overdo it. i feel alot better today than i did on day 2 - man, i must have been really toxic. this is the most dedication & willpower i've ever shown ... in my life. and let me express, i LOVE food, and i love cooking so that has been especially hard not to do. also, i'm not solely doing this for weight, but because i feel it's necessary to cleanse every so often. (especially with the bad habits i've been forming!)
i'll be getting back to pilates and bike riding next week. just wanted to share! i'm close to the end...yay.

^^^ i did the master cleanse last year and HATED it... i couldn't make it past day 4 i think, i was trying for the full 10... it was truly awful, and i sincerely hated every moment i was on it... i eat a super high fiber diet, and cross my fingers that it cleanses me out as much as i need.... although i would like to do a colon cleanse, which i know sounds gross, but i bet you would feel squeaky clean after lol!!
yayyyyy pilates, i love 100 sets, just remember scoop and tuck your belly button and elevate your pelvic floor lol!!! my pilates instructor says that line about 029839827 times per class!
Be careful with the colon cleanse stuff! I talked to my gastrologist about it, and he said that your colon naturally sheds its lining every two weeks, so it basically cleans itself. No matter what you put into your body, it will get rid of the bad stuff. Of course, take that as you will!

I haven't been on here for awhile. For shame. Anyway, I told many of you I was doing the Couch to 5K, and then I got sick and haven't been doing much?
I just found out I probably have exercise induced asthma. Turns out a lot of athletes have it so the good news is I'm not just totally out of shape, the not being able to breathe is not all from lack of fitness. If I'm positive once I get a few tests done I should be right back on it in no time.
Did I ever mention I gave up meat more than a month ago and I'm still going strong? It's helping a bit Kept me away from fast food!

^^ that sucks about the asthma thing, but good that you pinpointed it! i have a similar issue with my diaphragm muscles wrapping to tight and squeezing my ribs. yipes. good luck with getting on track with that!
i also gave up meat and it has been so much easier than i initially thought it would be! yay! good job! -----
and tomorrow is the last day of my detox! yay!!! i am surprised at my willpower. the ladies at work have been bringing in tons of easter chocolates and someone even baked an apple cake yesterday, it's been tempting but i'm looking at the light

^ I understand the sickness. I'm still rocking the sinus infection and somewhere in the last month I picked up some bronchitis. I didn't swim all last week. When I got in the pool lastnight I could barely finish 20 laps. I had worked my way up to 40 so I was very bummed lastnight.

I feel ya w/ the exercise induced asthma...my doctor told me the same thing. He gave me an inhaler which has been helping with my breathing, such a relief.
I tried to get a prescription for Adipex but my doctor said "I was too young and healthy to be taking it" I am currently doing weight watchers , playing soccer, training for a couple 5ks & 10ks but I feel like it is such a slowwwwwwwwwwww process to lose the weight... I feel like I am constantly hungry even after I eat, I need to find a appetite suppressant...does anyone have suggestions?
I was approached about joining a fight league, it is kind of like UFC stuff...kickboxing, jujitsu, wrestling.... I wrestled on the boys team when I was in high school, and am considering joining to help get me back into shape and to wrestle again, just bc I miss it
Increase your fiber intake. That will help fill you up and will help you lose weight. WW is probably already drilling this into your head, but just always be on the lookout for ways to increase fiber. Whole fruit, oatmeal (the Quaker weight-loss packets have the most fiber and least sugar). Read the labels on bread and pasta to find the ones that are 6-8 grams of fiber per serving. A lot of products say high fiber but are only 2-3 grams. These are still fab, but you can do better.
Eat a little protein after each workout. This will not only help your muscles, but will help prevent you from bingeing later on.
And, yeah. It is a very, very, very slow process, which is why most people fail. When you don't see instant results it's easy to get discouraged. But since you're exercising so much, you can set goals that way as well. Like being able to run faster or longer. Or whatever fits into what you're doing.
In the long run, it is how fit you are and not your size/weight that counts. I think you're doing awesome!
sweetmelissa - awesome!!! i wished that i didn't totally hate the pool because i know its such good exercise for you, and isn't high impact....
i'm training to run a half marathon and ran 9k today... it was a beautiful day outside which helped big time, and of course my bonnaroo playlist that was pumping through my ipod!!!

thanks girl, karma rightbackatchaaaaaa... i didn't always run but when i was making some short term goals for myself (which i do every couple of years, and always try to include a fitness goal) i decided i wanted to run a marathon... well then i realized a marathon is 42k which is really really far lol... so i decided i would start with a half marathon, and well... here i am running my ass off.!!!!

Chawke, awesome goal w/ the half. That was my goal for this year but because I didn't raise enough money for TNT I can only do the 10k (which I ran last year.) when is your marathon?
I can't tell you girls how amazing it feels to be playing a sport again. It's so sad to say but now that soccer is back in my life I feel like I have more purpose lol.
Oh yea, I start culinary school for baking & pastry arts on Thurs... I wonder how many of my weight watcher points will be used during classes lol.
Hey ladies! I haven't been around too much lately, because I have been on a plane for most of the past month. I've been sticking to my diet pretty well except for the booze. But, alessiasurfsny, I feel you on this, when you taste wine for a living... sometimes it is hard to put it down after just a sip. Good luck in your pastry art classes, I know you have kick-ass will power and will do just fine.
I'm still losing, which is nice, but it is just starting to slow down... I'm pretty much on target though. I should be at my pre back injury weight before Roo if I just keep up what I am doing. woot! I ran into someone that I hadn't seen for about 3 months and he said that I "have dissappeared!" That always feels nice.
The only thing is now, I'm beginning to get the "oh, you look great, why do you want to loose anymore? why don't you have this piece of fried chicken? you don't need to diet anymore." grrrrr...
I'll be done losing when I am happy with myself... not when everyone else is! And I'll be done losing when my fav pair of James Jeans looks great on my butt again!
Ugh I hate comments like that. I've lost weight recently without trying, but I know it's because I quit working at the bar, so I'm not drinking heady beer almost every night anymore, and we all know what the booze, especially beer does to our figures!! So anyway, I'm at the in-laws for Easter dinner and step-mom-in-law (yeah, about as bad as it sounds, lol) straight up accused me of not eating which is really just laughable because all I do at her house is drink tons of wine and eat her yummy food (she's crazy, but a fabulous hostess). I don't know, just the way it came out was very rude, and I know the sisters-in-law heard it too.
The other comment I absolutely can't stand is "you've lost sooooooooooooo much weight". It makes it seem like you thought I was a freakin whale before.
Anyhoo, sorry this was lengthy, and good luck to all on your fitness goals...mine is just to stay where I am and not gain an ounce....well I should probably start working out, but one step at a time

I've been motivated to get back into a healthy-eating routine. My stomach has not been well the past few weeks, and I'm tired of it hurting.
I've been doing some research on one-day fasts and was curious if anyone else here does this? Or has ever done it in the past. The fasting would not be to lose weight, but more to let my stomach rest for a day, just like you would any other body part that's overworked. I've never fasted before so I'm a little nervous. I tend to get shaky and light-headed when I don't eat for several hours, much less a whole day! It's said that hunger is a mental issue, and meditation can help you get through it.
Does anyone have any advice on fasting? This would be something I would do only after I'd prepared myself (physically and mentally) first, maybe within the next week or so.
I would think just eating simple food for a few days would be better. Cut out salt and other seasoning - plain chicken, rice. Nothing acidic like tomatoes or oranges.
Eat small but fewer meals so your stomach doesn't get too empty. When your blood sugar drops, you get shaky and light-headed. Eating more frequently will help your body better regulate itself.
Because hunger is not a mental thing if you're not eating anything at all. I would think your stomach would freak out even more if it wasn't getting anything at all.
Plus, this is something you could start immediately and not worry about any adverse consequences.
Thanks for the advice dcbee! I've done the bland/simple food diet many times on the advice of my doc with no different results. My stomach is strange; it doesn't matter what it is, as long as there is food in my system, my stomach will be upset
The fast would be only 24 hours, and I'm smart enough that if I felt like I was going to pass out, I would eat something. I would also pick a day where I didn't do anything strenuous and certainly not a day where I am at work!
I figure it never hurts to try! If it doesn't seem to help at all, then no harm, no foul
You know, a friend of mine has something that sounds similar. Her doctors have no clue what to do with her. She does just not eat all that much and as a result has dropped a ton of weight (though she was very happy with her weight to begin with), but it's been going on for several years.
I've had my stomach issues since I was 18. It was diagnosed as IBS, but I'm not completely sure now that's what I have. I was on medication for a while, but it never really seemed to help so I stopped taking it. My doc thinks most of the problem stems from stress, which I agree with, but only to an extent, because my stomach is upset even if when I'm not stressed! I'm used to it now, but I'd like to find a long-term solution. I know fasting isn't a necessarily a long-term solution but it might help me figure out if it's food/beverages that upset it or if my stomach is just that messed up on its own.
