so, lately the word i've been hearing has been phish for two nights (kinda surprising). is there a frontrunner for the other headliner, or are we still just guessing?
i'd love to see phish headline one night, then do a latenight another night - what would really be cool, would be if they added a latenight on sunday - here's what i'm hoping for:
saturday night phish - what stage - 8ish-11 or 12ish then 1am-ish till the sun comes up
or the same scenario for sunday night
or latenight sat, then headline sunday
i think something like this scenario WILL HAPPEN
as far as other headliners go, i'm thinking:
dave matthews band
bruce springsteen
the zeppelin project, whatever they'll call themselves - they shouldn't tour under the name led zeppelin
beastie boys - i think they could headline a night, however, i'd much rather see them get a latenight spot
foo fighters - honestly, i hate them, but dave grohl has a lot of fans, they closed out acl last year, and he's been rumored as trying out for vocals for the zeppelin project, although i've heard the guy from alter bridge is currently the front runner

i agree that sunday needs a latenight type deal. maybe not a full 3 tents and stage latenight but they do need like a "closing party" like rothbury had with boombox and pnuma PA after phil lesh.
i'm thinking put a dj or something in the other tent for the select few thousand people that still have the energy to dance for a couple more hours.
Sounds like a good fit to me too. I think they would be perfect for 'roo!
I would be really excited to see She & Him!
Now think about this, Conor Oberst, Jim James and M. Ward are working on an album so if it is released around next summer..........maybe something beautiful will take place?

The Monsters of Folk would be amazing! I can't even even imagine what kind of folky goodness will come out of Oberst, James, and Ward. I would think Oberst and Ward are due to come and Jim always seems to enjoy playing.
i'm loving the shit out of these bowie rumors. please be true. that would be life changing. and throw in a flight of the conchords return too. or maybe thats just my freaky dream.
as for what i consider logical choices......i'm feelin the phish speculation too, although they will totally take over. But in a good way. Just get your tickets quick. we know how that goes.
i've got this really strong feeling q tip could be on the bill, his new album comes out soon. that would be undeniably sick.
I also think mike doughty is due back. he was dearly missed by me this summer, its been awhile. And have we considered the newly reunited smashing pumpkins? i could see that happening too. I'd be willing to bet we'll see bloc party. And cheech and chong, they are back in action as of late. As far as middle of the road freshie acts, id say blitzen trapper, women, maybe deer hoof or deerhunter. maybe throw vivian girls in there, and maybe grizzly bear or department of eagles. And i'm calling fleet foxes now, because everyone is just so damm enamored with them lately. and maybe solo jenny lewis, without rilo kiley this time around. and the cure, for sure. those are my projections.
please no oasis, skid row, or acdc. those rumors upset me. but i am fond of naps.
as for my roo 09, in a perfect world......jay z! immortal technique! common! girl talk! hot chip! tobacco/black moth! yeasayer! the mars volta! ryan adams! neil young! vivian girls! of montreal! the dead! tom petty! built to spill! ben harper! the cure! talking heads! lisa lampanelli! Stella! demetri martin!

I live near Louisville, KY and the local station (91.9 WFPK) has been playing a new song by Oberst and James. Good stuff!
I like all the Phish speculation, but remember, we were saying ALL the same things about the Zeppelin rumors last year... so stay in perspective people!
With some of the strange/different suggestions for possible headliners this year I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Green Day (or maybe they have and I just didn't notice). They do have an album coming out. They probably wouldn't be a choice of mine to headline...but they probably have as much chance to headline as most that have been suggested.

There is a rumor about Skid Row??? LOL!!! If it's with Sebastion, I'd actually LOVE that ...but I'm fairly sure NOBODY else here would, so I guess it's a pretty bad idea

The media was partially to blame for the Zeppelin rumor:
The arrows seem to be pointing toward Phish playing, but I am even skeptical about Phish playing and I was even told through the grapevine that they are looking likely for 09.
That whole thread makes me sad... Besides the fact that it's a piss poor webpage and still takes ten minutes to load, the 'roo bashing on there is ridiculous. I've got no problem with Phish being there (I think it will awesome, actually), but what's up the asses of those phans?
If the Phish rumors turn out to be false, it will be more akin to the PJ rumors of 07 than the Zeppelin rumors earlier this year in that it was perpetuated at the grassroots fan level and not by media sources.

I'm not sure if anyone's brought up the Arctic Monkeys. They have a new album coming out in 2009 and i could easily see them in a co headlining spot. They put on a great show.
Theivery Corp Grace Potter and the Nocturnals TV on the Radio Damien Rice (PLEEEZE come back!!) and of course MARS VOLTA!! They were AWSOME @ VooDoo...esp when the singer jumped down, grabbed my camera and started using it as a mic...course it scared the CRAP out of me...then he grabbed ME and started shaking me...LMAO! I hope SOMEONE got a shot of that cause I sure couldn't!

I've met Mr. Bach though... VERY cool guy
Actually I would be pretty happy about them, it seems like a long shot though... Bach has one hell of a voice

I think the funniest or most fascinating part of the Phish rumors is that a lot of the rumors seem to be coming from sites or people who have no reason to make stuff up. What I read on PT, a good majority of Phish fans are bewildered as to why Phish would play 'roo over throwing their own festival. So since its ruffling their feathers, I think its a good sign.
I think it will also be amusing on here to see how many people need to back track on their posts about Phish not playing 'roo after the initial lineup in announced.

Difference is we know that Phish is doing a whole tour and not just a one off show.

I heard on NYC Q104.3 last night that Paul McCarney said he's not so sure about a full tour this year, but would prefer to do a sprinkling of one'offs over 2009 at places he's always wanted to play one day, but never has, before he plays the ultimate great gig in the sky... possibly as the Fireman, possibly not... (I don't remember the source of the interview the DJ quoted)
Hmmm... I guess the question is, has he always wanted to play the biggest established music festival in the USA?

They are a tent act nothing like a co-headliner.
I guess your right. It's just kind of hard picturing them playing a tent when they headlined a night of the biggest music festival on the planet. Americans just don't embrace them I guess.
