Is there any reason that Springsteen has been put on the first page besides the fact that people want him there? It seems next to impossible, and here's why. He has a new album coming out with the E Street Band in January, and following that a spring tour (and Super Bowl appearance). The tour will end in May, however, for one simple reason: drummer Max Weinberg must start The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien on June 1st. Him having the free time to come out to the farm only two weeks into his gig is next to impossible, and Springsteen recruiting either a) a new drummer or b) a new band in that time seems next to impossible.
Sorry Bruce lovers (I'm one), but this won't be the Boss's year for the farm.
It's one night on a saturday. I don't see why they couldn't fly max in from New York. I mean he could tape his friday show in the afternoon and head down friday night if need be. It's still very possible.
I would say theoretically possible. But why would Bruce possibly go to all that trouble? He's not even a festival act. I'm not sure the E Street Band has EVER played a festival. This seems a true shot in the dark.
isnt this the same music that will and carlton did a dance on stage to
Kind of, Sugar Hill Gang sampled it then Sir Mix Alot sample the Sugar Hill Gang Sample and made Jump On it which what Will and Carlton uses......Know I am depressed with the useless knowledge I have in my head.

dmb is playing in nashville in apr. does this mean no bonnaroo?
A tour schedule like that would likely mean no Bonnaroo for a lower-billed act, but since DMB would be in a headlining spot I don't think it's out of the question for them to head back to TN for Bonnaroo. Superfly has some pretty deep pockets, they have the power to re-route tours if they want to.
As an aside, I think DMB is a good fit for 'roo this year. Bonnaroo has obviously moved away from being a jam-only fest - DMB would fit the part-jam, part-mainstream appeal Superfly has been going for.

my 2 cents.
the tour will actually be over before bonnaroo. if they don't add any more dates. i thought there was some rule about not playing that close to bonnaroo or something. but i'm sure they could break the rule if they wanted to.

I haven't really been following the details regarding their tour, but on first glance it seems too short. My guess is that they'll add more dates in January.
(I'm sure there's some DMB fanatics around here that could offer a better guess though)

I feel that the only reason why DMB is popular is because college aged students that are 'want to be 'stoners' or 'want to be hippies' listen to them, because they don't have enough music taste to find real solid artists. And DMB is subculture but at the same time popular enough that everyone knows who they are.
They wouldn't be an act that I would want to see but may check out for a little while if no body else is playing.

^ The problem with your argument, is that people have been saying that for over a decade. "Oh, DMB, yea only college kids like them. DMB fans are a bunch of white hat, faux-hippie college kids". Well guess what? We all graduated! You realize that the same people haven't been in college for 10 years now, right? When I was in High School - Dave was for college stoners When I was in College - Dave was for college stoners Now that I've graduated - Dave is for college stoners
Guess what? I think his fanbase is a little broader than you give him credit for. I'm not a huge Dave fan, but I do think he is a solid artist, and he gets a bad rap because of all the frat boys that go to his shows. But his fanbase has to be one of the most stereotyped in all of music.

For the majority I don't believe that. I believe that DMB is a starting point for most music enthuisants and then they go on to other artists, and thats why Dave will remain to be labeled as a college band.
Not so much established speculation, but I'd like to see the RiffTrax crew at the Cinema Tent in 2009. Hate to be an ass but that would sell me on getting a ticket as I am a huge MST3K fan

As a person who got into the music scene via DMB, I completely agree. Don't get me wrong, I love DMB and always will. But I think the label of "college band" isn't unfounded.

assuming that phish and springsteen are playing the slots that rolling stone mentioned, i'm hoping for arcade fire closing out the which stage on sunday

Seriously? That's your argument? That people like DMB because they don't have enough taste to like somebody that you consider a "real solid artist" and they want to be hippies?
I think that it's entirely possible that people like DMB's music. Further, I think that it's possible that they like DMB's music in addition to other artists -- that they heard DMB and said "Hey, I like that" and then they heard somebody else, maybe somebody edgy, and said "I like that, too!" and then they decided that they had enough room in their head and their heart to like both.
You don't like them? That's fine. That's your right. But don't dismiss somebody else just because their tastes are different than yours. It makes you sound like a tool.

First off welcome the newb...
Secondly... At first it seemed to be just wishful thinking on my part to want Fleet Foxes to play Bonnaroo in '09, but on the bonnaroo website the bonnaroo staffs favorite albums of 08 were posted and fleet foxes was mentioned quite a bit.
Hopefully this will become reality because I personally have been falling in love them here lately.

fleet foxes are, even more than no age, the most overrated band of the last 5 years. seriously, they are decent at best, but not worth all of the tremendous praise they receive. but im sure they will be at roo this year.
and despite my distaste toward them, i would probably check them out at roo. i've heard good things about their live show and i actually want to like them

Obviously you've never heard of Vampire Weekend.
And you should check out Fleet Foxes live. Its a good show but I'd hesitate to call it great.
