There are always HUGE bands of the moment. MGMT and Vampire Weekend were HUGE around the time of bonnaroo but now I barely hear or read much about them. They have to come back with strong second albums to see if they were just hype or not.
I'm going to listen to fleet foxes soon. Haven't gotten much to listen to yet but I will soon.

Just throwing this out there. I know the Boss is a big rumor for the Sunday closer. What would everyone think about Coldplay as a nice Sunday chill closer?
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**

^ I respect your opinion on Coldplay, but (as much of a Panic fan as I am), I don't see Panic closing after Phish. Clapton would be a dream closer though.
fleet foxes are, even more than no age, the most overrated band of the last 5 years. seriously, they are decent at best, but not worth all of the tremendous praise they receive. but im sure they will be at roo this year.
and despite my distaste toward them, i would probably check them out at roo. i've heard good things about their live show and i actually want to like them
I agree. I don't understand the hype they get. It's probably good music to fall asleep to...maybe. I can't say I dislike them, but they just sort of bore me.

Man, I really hope Roo doesn't go the way of Coldplay. Chris Martin may be the lamest front man I've ever seen. The music is pretty weak too.

I would actually prefer if they had Phish close out the roo and just let them play for as long as they want instead of two nights with phish. I have nothing against phish, i enjoy their music but i don't like the idea of the same band headlining two nights. i would prefer diversity. I think alot of people would agree that Radiohead one night or some other huge act would be better than two nights of phish. Just please no metal headliners.

Actually they can play past 12 unless there is some new rule agaiunst it, the reason most bands don't play past 12 is because well 2 reasons I think. 1) Because they want to try and clear out the area so they can get it cleaned and preped for the following day. Seeing as it's the largest area that's my guess and 2) because of the bands who have the late night sets on the smaller stages. They probably prefer it to be in a more chilled and contained spot, plus it's nice for the late bands.
But trust me bands can play past 12 on the main stage, I remember in 03 (Neil Young and Widespread both played after 12) and in 04 The Dead just kept playing for I don't even know how long, but I remember Ween started at 12 and Primus waited for The Dead to finish.
That was a crazy night, Ween played before Primus and Primus played 2 hours or so, then went back and saw Ween finish up with another hours worth of tunes. They must of played till about 4AM or so.
Not as crazy as seeing Sasha and Digweed play until the damn sun was starting to rise. I finally just gave up and went back to my tent and crashed for a few hours. If I was on some Cacti then it would of been a different story, but I was to full on the lovely Magic Hats and Attwater beers they were selling inside.

I like Phish, but I'm by no means a Phanatic (seen them once, have A Live One, NYE 1995..also just downloaded 4/2/99 to start geting ready for roo). I think them playing 2 nights will be great.
They will definitely be bringing their A-games, and I think one night will be a late night, leaving the other headliner slot open. I think people need to give Superfly the benefit of the doubt. People bitched about Tool and from all acounts they were amazing as always, Metallica was also well received despite much harsher backlash. If you like 'Roo and all the different music it has to offer, you will NOT be dissapointed by phish. If you go the first night, get your no-no on, I'd be willing to bet you'd wanna check out night two.
On a second note, the "Phanatics", (most of whom I've seen on other boards, rollingtone etc.) who think that Phish shouldn't play Bonnaroo bc it amounts to them selling out or they would have to listen to music (gasp!) besides phish, please get off your high-horses. You are probably the reason Phish wants to play 'Roo, to play in front of people who don't know them as well, and prove to themselves (at least re-affirm) that they can win over a crowd that doesnt's go ape$hit for the first notes of YEM. They probably also look forward to collaborating and probably watching some of the other great artists playing (music does exist outise of phish!).
And finally, if you think Phish's purity or the Phans' purity is being tainted by interspersing with "lay people" who don't worship the ground trey walks on, please don't come. We'll have a great time without you. You can download it later, and lament about what an epic show you missed.

Anybody hear anything about Backdoor Slam? Their set was pretty sick last year. Here's what the website said:
"After a well earned break for the festive season, the band will be heading for the studio in the New Year to start work on their second album, so there'll be a brief break in their touring schedule. But we'll keep you entertained with plenty of videos and hopefully the occasional sneaky demo as the recordings progress..."
It seems like they could be touring again by the time 'Roo rolls around...
YES! I doubt it though as I think Steven Wilson has said they won't start touring again until fall '09 to support the new album. But damn a late night or sundown set would rock my world!
Porcupine Tree would be absolutely incredible. My friend took me to see them about two years ago - I had absolutely no idea what to expect, but I bought a ticket based on her great taste in music (and the fact that I had a major crush on her at the time ). I now consider them one of my favorite bands. I still have yet to explore their back catalogue (haven't really listened to anything before In Absentia), and I'm just not sure where to start.
Porcupine Tree on the farm in any way, shape or form would make my world.

I think we should expect somebody like Bon Iver, She & Him, Dr. Dog, Fleet Foxes...maybe Of Montreal?
These band were all big this year, and had albums come out. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Of Montreal ;D
I bet Ra Ra Riot plays in the thursday spot where MGMT played last year and the National played the year before. I can't think of another band that fits into the slot.

I'm hoping She & Him, Conor Oberst, and Jim James are on the artist lineup - then we can get the three of them (M. Ward being the third) together for the Monsters of Folk or whatever the name of their collaboration is. I'd love to see that.
