Saturday night headliner Page Jones and Bonham with rotating lead singers....
I don't get why they don't just get Andrew Stockdale from Wolfmother. Wolfmother sounded like a young Zeppelin. He's got guitar skills AND can sing the high pitched yelling stuff for a while. Plus his band broke up. Form Zep with him as the lead singer. That would rock

I was just about to give this man karma until I saw this......whats your alternative...Chester whatever from GD linkin park......right??
If anything Stockdale's got the voice...and from the shows definatly the tight pants.....just something to get me some Page and JPJ together
Edit: Also right after I posted this "Where Eagles Have Been" came up while on shuffle out of 4k+ songs out of maybe 15 wolfmother.....tis a sign of the good to come ;D smileys rock ;D

OK, Zep was heavy without being heavy metal (though they were one of the progenitors of the genre) and also obviously funky... and obviously bigger than the Beastie Boys...
You may be on to something... however he did show interest towards a post suggesting Massive Attack and Portishead... and I don't see any stylistic ties between any of those three aforementioned artists/groups.

What's the alternative? Cedric Bixler Zavala or, better yet, Maynard? Have you heard Tool's "No Quarter"? Or Perfect Circle's "When The Levee Breaks"?
Not sure anything edge has said suggests Zeppelin or a retro act. He seemed to indicate Phish was the jam band, Springsteen the retro act and ______ the heavier modern act.
He said Portishead, Chemical Brothers and Massive Attack were the right frame of mind in guessing who the "funky", heavier than Phish and Springsteen act was.
I also think when he says heavy he might mean it in the content sense, not the actual sound. Like that's heavy man, not that's heavy metal, man.

No, Paul Oakenfold is not the headliner.
I'm sticking with my guess of Muse. Muse has been becoming more dance influenced over the years, and supposedly there new album will be even more so. Plus they are another British group, just like Portishead, Massive Attack, and Chemical Brothers.
Plus, Muse will probably only be playing a select number of shows this summer, especially in the US. So a Bonnaroo appearance would be even more sought after than usual.

At Vegoose Muse was a pre-headliner, however at Lollapalooza in 2007 they were a headliner. Muse is really big in Europe. If AC Superfly got them as a pre-headliner before im not sure they would make them a headliner.

Well my idea was more of a combination of a headliner and a pre headliner spot.
Muse 8 - 10 followed by Phish 12 - 4. So Muse would get a headlining time slot, but still be followed by a bigger group. Kind of like Jack Johnson last year (He was the original 3rd headliner after all, and played right before Pearl Jam, so I think this is very plausible).
I don't see Muse as a headlining band at Roo... maybe a late night Which Stage (MAYBE), but definitely a pre-headlining slot or a slot closing the Which Stage for the PM hours.

Oh please stop. You're going to make me slide right off of this chair.
They headlined in 2007...because the White Stripes pulled out a month before ACL.
If he's saying Beastie Boys isn't big enough, I'm not sure how Muse is.
Touche. I forgot he said that.
I don't know. I just can't think of an act that fits all of the criteria he has said. Rage did seem to fit, until he said it was along the lines of portishead, chemical brothers, etc. Now nothing does, at least not any acts big enough to headline.

that is true in terms of the concept of the album, but the Direct TV HD special i had TiVO'ed for a long time was definitely a live performance... i just wish they weren't behind panels the whole time...
the rappers were front stage, and an orchestra, and some kids who were singing
it was bad ass.... and i didn't usually like the Gorillaz

Plus, I really wouldn't consider Gorillaz all that bigger than Muse or Beastie Boys. Although they obviously don't play many shows, so that is an added draw.
I call BS on this, but if he speaks the truth, then I hope to god it's Massive Attack. Perfect fit for Bonnaroo's vibe. If anyone has yet to hear them (I only got into them over the past year), here are some videos:
