If this was Bonnaroo this year, and no other bands played, I think I could live with that.
I hope AC/DC doesn't play either. I like them, but I would very much like Roo to not have the nostalgia acts this year.
This was meant to be ironic right?
Actually the first quote was based solely on the fact that Phish was at the top of the list. They are, in my mind, the very best band to have ever played a note of music in the live setting. I love Grateful Dead music but don't care much about seeing the Dead. I have seen the Grateful Dead play, and don't reallyl care to see that music played without Jerry. If Phish plays Bonnaroo it will be the confluence of the two greatest musical experiences of my life.
So that's really what I was saying in the first post. If Phish plays, It won't matter to me WHO is on that list. But then again, I've never missed Bonnaroo, so, it never really matters to me who is on the list, anyway. I always find something I like.
That said, I do sincerely hope AC/DC doesn't play. However, I'll take Phish all 3 nights!!
I would really, really love if these AC/DC rumors weren't true.
Any band that sells their new record exclusively at Wal-Mart has no business playing Bonnaroo, in my opinion. And I'd like to think that Superfly/AC agree
I'm the King of the Phish rumor deniers and actually did so earlier in this thread. By a good source of mine who I trust a LOT is certain Phish is at the Roo this year. I'm counting on it and will LOVE that show!
Phish at Roo would be wonderful. I'm not a huge fan of Phish, but I can jam to it for sure. They would definitely receive more welcome from me than AC/DC.
The people hating on Phish at Roo seem to just hate the idea of them playing at a festival period. The good news is that it appears they will have other opportunities to see Phish and not have to drag their bitchiness to the farm should this rumor be true. Thank jeebus.

all i had to say to them was....."why are so many people bitching at the possibility of phish at roo.....its not like they arnt gonna do a tour.....you dont want to see them there then dont go...its not like them playing there is gonna hurt your chances to see them on tour...just be glad they are back and are gonna do a tour vs. bitching about where they "might" play......i got my tickets to hampton so where they play doesnot matter to me......but if i didnt have those tickets, id be looking at this like...."cool, another chance to see them" not "aww thats stupid for them to play there, they wont do that, im not gonna spend 300 on a ticket to go and see them along with 100+ other bad ass bands. but yet ill pay the 300 scalped price to see them somewhere else"
on that note...roo is THE festival of the year and i hope that they do end up there even for just one night....even though it would atleast be 2 nights
oh and imagine the jam possibiltys with the other artists there.......think and keep in mind to me claypool is a god but claypool dueling mike and just jaming a couple songs..maybe rock a bad ass primus cover with him... not to mention the superjam"
I don't even have a source, but I would bet all of my money (the little I have) that Phish will be the big Saturday headliner at Bonnaroo this year. Not exactly my top pick, but I wouldn't be against it. Probably be a fun show and I've only heard good things about them live.
yeah im not saying its a strong rumor....but it is strong hope..for me at least.. and the fact the guy has called some shows before is pretty exciting
i was mostly referring to the first page. even last year there were a few bogus articles from the sun and the mirror which kinda helped the led rumor... but there is nothing like that about phish other than people who apparently have an inside source. Not saying those people are wrong, but i just dont see how phish is strongly rumor unless I totally missed an article or something.
i just dont see how it's a strong rumor at this point.
my opinon of course
I am not going to mention my source, but I was personally told that Phish is looking very probable for 09.
*edit- Time will tell if this will be true, but I am putting some faith in my source and the buzzing I have been reading on a couple other message boards.

hmmmmm i dont consider it strongly rumored, i think of it as strong possibility, but if u think about it, it is rumored......its not "comercialy" rumored, but it is "residentialy" <HVAC talk
like once they got back together, it has been "rumored" that they will be there...but, i have yet to find a news source of some kind, legit or not saying so its just been people saying so

I think that Phish will play and I have no desire to see them. They are together and playing. Where as Zep did one gig and the members were / are involved in other projects that are/were touring. Or at least Plant was. That's the difference between those two rumors.

From what I have noticed, Phish news seems to spread like their music did, the word of mouth(or Internet these days).

thanks for clearing that up. it's not that i dont believe that there are credible sources out there, I just remain skeptical when we're only going by word of mouth here... which im sure is completely understandable.

I wouldn't say it's a rumor. I'd just say it's a highly likely possibility. They've already confirmed they're getting back together and already confirmed some shows. If they play any festival, it'll be Bonnaroo. The various members of Phish have played Bonnaroo more than any other major festival. It seems like if they were to play a festival show, Bonnaroo would be it (Rothbury's too young). Not who'd I'd necessarily want as the big headliner (PAUL MCCARTNEY), but who I think it will be
If it makes you guys feel better, I am a bit skeptical when I compile the lists for who is being rumored, but it is fun to look back and see which ones were true. I do want to add that even though the media did leak Metallica last year (even though they did denied it), they also fuled the Led Zeppelin rumor to the max, and we know how that turned out.
There is also that RHCP rumor going around, but I have a hard time buying into it only because of the fact that they are supposed to be going on a hiatus for a bit.

Dont smite...
But I'm not too crazy about Phish playing Roo. I am a casual fan, and I would enjoy the show. However, I would really like to GET tickets to Bonnaroo...I have a feeling that if Phish headlined, it would become incredibly hard to get tickets.
I am sure if Phish does play that they will announce their tour, which what The Police did in 07. It pretty much went until June for tickets to sellout that year and I would guess it would take about the same amount of time for roo to sellout if Phish played. If there is no major tour then I would be very worried to have a ticket.

I am also a casual Phish fan, who would only be mildly excited about Phish playing roo. However, I would be pumped if they were on the bill because I feel like a band such as Phish would restore the old Bonnaroo crowd/atmosphere that has been lacking in recent years (go ahead, smite me).
I agree with you. I do love the eclectic lineups the last couple of years, but I did feel this past year was a bit bland on the atmosphere side with the lack of hippies.

Bingo. Hippies. I know I'm not alone when I say, "I love hippies."
Lots of people complain about hippies - They try to bum your cigarettes. They eat strange, smelly, bad tasting food. They are always asking, "Can I hit that?" They fall asleep at strange times of day in even stranger places. They don't have good hygiene. They tend to take up more than their allotted space when dancing. They think it's OK to bring their dog everywhere.
These are complaints I can live with. Hippies bring lots of good things to Bonnaroo. They are mostly kind hearted people and I think they contribute to a really great vibe. I love Hippies.
So, even if I wasn't interested in seeing Phish at all, I would still want them to play Bonnaroo. Bring the Hippies back in '09.
