I'm not a huge Phish fan but I'd probably go see them if they were there. I'd be much more excited that Phish playing + the omnipresence of Les Claypool might possibly = Oysterhead at Bonnaroo.

I'm very curious about the basis of these Dead rumors, aside from that blogsite. They haven't announced plans to tour or anything, have they? I thought they just got together for that one-off Obama show.

From Rolling Stone: Through the show, the remaining rhythm section leaned into one another and seemingly bonded once again. Weir, Lesh, Kreutzmann and Hart gave off a sense of genuine enjoyment. But don’t get too excited just yet. Spurning whispers of a possible reunion tour, longtime Grateful Dead publicist and historian Dennis McNally has cautioned, “They just want to see how it feels.”
So no tour has been announced yet but it's probably going to happen. Just don't know how large it will be.
I'm sure if Phish were to headline, they would play Saturday, and they would counter the late night programming accordingly for people who aren't into Phish. I would not be in the least bit surprised to see both Phish and the Dead on the bill this year. I think there's a good chance that both Coachella and Bonnaroo reach back to their roots next year to appeal to a more loyal fanbase in a down economy.
There's not a thing worth remembering When tomorrow can bring someone new Get used to the thought You can't be what you're not Life has already got plans for you
i just dont see how it's a strong rumor at this point.
my opinon of course
As a professional journalist I'll put it like this....SOURCING.
I think the distinction between "just a rumor" and this one are the People involved in the rumor. As I posted above, I have great confidence in the source of this rumor. He's NEVER been wrong about this sort of thing in the past.
Take it as what you will...but I'm fairly certain Phish will be at Bonnaroo.
I am also a casual Phish fan, who would only be mildly excited about Phish playing roo. However, I would be pumped if they were on the bill because I feel like a band such as Phish would restore the old Bonnaroo crowd/atmosphere that has been lacking in recent years (go ahead, smite me).
I agree with you. I do love the eclectic lineups the last couple of years, but I did feel this past year was a bit bland on the atmosphere side with the lack of hippies.
Bingo. Hippies. I know I'm not alone when I say, "I love hippies."
Lots of people complain about hippies - They try to bum your cigarettes. They eat strange, smelly, bad tasting food. They are always asking, "Can I hit that?" They fall asleep at strange times of day in even stranger places. They don't have good hygiene. They tend to take up more than their allotted space when dancing. They think it's OK to bring their dog everywhere.
These are complaints I can live with. Hippies bring lots of good things to Bonnaroo. They are mostly kind hearted people and I think they contribute to a really great vibe. I love Hippies.
So, even if I wasn't interested in seeing Phish at all, I would still want them to play Bonnaroo. Bring the Hippies back in '09.

i don't know the source. I don't know that he or she has never been wrong in the past. I don't know you either. See where I'm getting at?
I'm not saying that any inside source is wrong, but you cannot expect people to just trust that.

i kno that this isnt a very big rumor or anything, but i think that Jay-Z could make an appearance at the Roo this year, i mean he did kill it at Glastonbury last year
How about Ween? I feel like it is a good year for them to come back.
i would like ween if it was late night like in 04. i was not at bonnaroo in 04, but i feel like a late night set is the only way to do justice for a real ween show. even though their set in 07 was longer than most bands' sets i still feel it did not do them justice.
if they played another day time set again however i would not argue and my ass would be there anyway. =-D
I honestly wouldnt care which one, as long as they only took up the Sunday, and us non-jam band fans still get two headliners.
I have a hard time believing that anyone who has been to bonnaroo more than once is a "non-jamband fan."
Has the festival taught you NOTHING? Bonnaroo is a place to open yourself to all that which you have not had a chance to explore yet, even if your pre-conceived notions tell you that you won't like it.
Bonnaroo is a place where you should leave your inhibitions at the door, and accept the fact that our differences are really what unite us.
If you have not learned that yet, you still have yet to experience BONNAROO.

Good point...karma. Before I ever went to Roo, I wouldn't give jam bands a chance...now look at me ;D

I've been every year, and I'm not a jamband fan. I have learned much from Bonnaroo and music, and one thing is I just don't care for 90% of the bands that get lumped into that catagory.
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it
i had NEVER hear of MMJ, MMW/MMSW, so on and so forth.....bonnaroo has also opened me up to music and genres that i never thought id like
I bet you even heard of some that did not start with two MM's in the initials . Jam Band is a pretty vague category these days though. I think a lot of them are really Acid Jazz (Telepath, MMW, etc..) and several are Southern Rock bands (Widespread, MMJ, The Dead, etc...).

see im opposite i love about 90% of the jam bands..... i like how they can get down and jam/improv together to make it sound good/great for the longest time... but there are some that just dont click and u got ur drums doing one thing, bass doing another...then u got the guitar tryin to hold it together...definately takes some work vs. ur average nickleback band with just a few 3 minute songs....just my .02
I've been twice. I just don't care for most of the stuff lumped in there. Theres some stuff thats considered "jam band" that I love. Umphrey's McGee, STS9, Allman Brothers, some Gov't Mule, etc.
But the thing is, Bonnaroo is a full-on all-genres music festival. You don't HAVE to like or even see Jam Bands there anymore. And if you don't like jam bands, its okay. Or at least it should be. I'm just not interested in seeing two of the headliners cater to the exact same audience.
I know Bonnaroo has its roots in Jam Bands and stuff, but we have to face facts. Its an all-around music festival anymore. I wouldn't like two Jam Band headliners, much like a lot of you guys wouldnt want two metal headliners. Hell, I wouldnt even want two metal headliners. But you get what I'm saying? Variety is the spice of life.

True, but I really do not see a reason the Jam Band would have to headline Sunday night when everyone is exhausted. I think if Phish does show up, and I have like several others on here heard some unofficial good news on that score, they will play Saturday night.
BTW I have heard nothing about which day, only that Phish is in negotiations to play.
