Looks like Wakarusa will flee Kansas for Arkansas: www.mulberrymountainlodge.com/specialEvents.htm I think this is a good move. Mulberry Mountain hosts a fall festival and it's on private land. That should address some of the more unpleasant problems with this festival. But I think this is a smaller site so Waka may become more of a regional fest. I'll be interested in the lineup.
I went to Mulberry in September and thought the grounds were perfect. There were also only a few thousand people there. I'm not sure how it would handle a bigger crowd.

How did it handle the hurricane? I was at a festival a little north of it that weekend, and we got stormed out like a bitch.
The hurricane put a bit of a damper on the weekend. Perpetual Groove and the Wailers had to cut their sets short. Umphrey's also had to move from the main stage to a smaller tent. The worst of the storm didn't hit until late Saturday night, after Umphrey's stopped playing. A lot of people left early. Those of who stayed got soaked and woke up to find sunshades completely missing. My tent got ripped pretty bad as well. It was a lot fun though.
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**
The biggest difference for this vs bonnaroo is the size. I'd be shocked if they sold more than 10,000 tickets for it. Especially since its at Mulberry mountain now. Since its smaller, there will probably be fewer well known acts than there are at bonnaroo. There also isn't nearly as much other stuff going on. The upside to the smaller size is less time is spent waiting in line for everything, being able to get closer to the stages without having to camp out all day, and not having to walk as much to get everywhere. When I was Mulberry this year, we hung out at the campsite and were able to hear the main stage perfectly.
I went to waka last year and minus the thunder storms it was an amazing time. This year I am going to Waka then Roo, they are pretty close together and only 3 days apart. Waka last year was about 12,000 people, but I still had a blast.

yea one year we did waka and then the roo ... took about 3 weeks from start to finish ... i am thinking of doing that this year .... yeaaaa waka waka .... ron****
Thats what we were gonna do last year but due to finacial obligations we had to bail on one or the other. We chose Roo. I got the green light to start planning this year. Waka to Roo.
I have heard great things about the Mulberry Mountain site. It looks beautiful. Looking so forward to it.
Do you vets think think the fest will be scaled down this year to a regional fest with one or two big names? Or will it continue as it has been in recent years as a destination festival?

I am going to both as well! I am from AR, so I was really excited to hear Wakarusa is moved to Ozark.
The music fest in the fall at Mulberry Mountain is a big hit...everyone who attends loves the vibe of the site.

Anyone else from Texas contemplating stopping at Waka ON THE WAY to 'Roo?
I'll have to wait for the line-up until I can commit to it, logistically, but I think it would be a great way to break up the looong trip to TN. It's at about the 1/2way point.
Plus, Arkansas is beautiful!
edit: my bad, I just realized there is a separate thread for this
I only found out about the move two days before Christmas and I'm freakin' stoked! The sad thing is that THIS will be the reason I won't go to Roo this year. I can only go to one or the other because of work and it would be pretty stupid for me to miss the one that's only an hour down the road. God, I hope the Bonnaroo lineup sucks! I was pretty sold on Waka when I read that ZPZ would be returning because of last year's rain-out.
And as for the Mulberry Mountain hurricane in September, it sucked balls. The main tent that Umphrey's played under eventually collapsed. The poles actually lifted out of the ground. The site itself is pretty awesome. It isn't too large, so folks who aren't festival vets won't freak out about the walking and the festival vets chuckle at how easy it is. At Mulberry, I actually listened to The Avett Brothers from my tent. It was loud and clear. I do recommend a camping upgrade because it's shady!
Here's the Mulberry Mountain Music Fest layout. I have no idea if it will be the same for Waka or not. You can see that it isn't a particularly large area. You can walk from the bottom corner of the camp upgrade area to the box office in ten minutes or so, but it's up a short incline so it feels worse than it is.
