I met a guy a few years ago.He wore tie-dye and was a kind and a mellow fellow in his late thirties.After knowing him pretty good he informed me how I would not have liked him before Bonnaroo -he said Bonnaroo changed his life.He met people who were happy and loving and who shared with one another and turned mud pits into their play pens. They danced in the rain instead of cursing the rain.He was shocked and transformed by the level of kindness as well as the wonderful and varied music.He said the love that was Bonnaroo melted his anger.I am thankful Manchester has more hippy minded people after Bonnaroo - spreading the LOVE Dude!That is far more pressing over a "pure" fest. About the negative vibe on inforoo - Many of us just need gentle teaching.Or some tolerance. But you all seem to play pretty nice in this sandbox.
Instead of dirt and poison, we have rather chosen to fill our hives with honey and wax; thus furnishing mankind with the two noblest of things, which are sweetness and light.
Tolerance is key. Lets all just agree to disagree on somethings and just get along. Bonnaroo is the happiest place on earth for a few days out of the year and will continue to be that for many regardless of what some people may have you believe with their posts. Peace Love Unity Respect

I've been noticing this for a while, too, and just realized there was already a thread dedicated to it. The level of snarkiness is through the roof. I understand how annoying it is to see different people asking the same questions over and over, but we should all be respectful and patient (even if there IS search function).
There's just no reason to be so snotty and condescending.

While I agree, it's kinda inevitable with all the new folks we've gotten this year. There seems to be an influx of noobs posting whatever they want wherever they want without even so much as looking down the page for a dup thread. So it's understandable that the regulars are gonna get a little snarky when they see it everyday without ceasing. I think it's been fairly mild mannered considering.

but all the newbs that heard about it roo on the radio or mtv flood the place with ac/dc, gnr, tom jones, coldplay, jay -z, etc... and they arent the trolls????
I think Tom would be ecstatically overjoyed if someone told him he was referenced in the same sentence as AC/DC, G'NR, Coldplay and Jay-Z

Oh yes, and I totally agree with you Danbird. I just touched on the "reverse" negativism that has come about as a result of the newer folks' lack of board etiquette or forethought (for the most part).
I think we seriously need some additions soon because we're passing the time in all the wrong ways!
Just imagine I did THAT with any number of OTHER words I KNOW would offend someone or MANY someones... if I did, I'd most likely get IMMEDIATELY (and rightfully) disciplined, if not BANNED from this site

Thanks - but you and I both know that nothing will happen because - after all - it is just a word - even if it is offensive to some people. I get accused of being overly sensitive about it but the fact is - if the person using it had a special needs child - they would not be using it.
It is every bit as offensive as calling someone a F*g or a N*gger in my book. Just hate speech, and as far as I am concerned it should be treated/disciplined as such on this board.

Calling someone an ass is equal to calling someone retarded. Don't tell someone not to use a derogatory term and then turn around and use one yourself. Maybe you find one to be more derogatory than another, but there is no ranking of words and how hurtful they are.
These are hate speech. I don't see the other as such, at all.
then you must not have a special needs child or friends with special needs children because the word "retarded" is hate speech in their minds and their worlds and rocks them just as hard as a gay man being called a "f*g" or a black man being called a "n**ger"
oh and I really don't see anything wrong in calling someone an ass when they are being one - 'specially when they are purposfully being one and posting something like that with the intent of starting sh*t. It had already been said by me that the word was offensive yet he took it upon himself to post it dozens of times when the thread was already taking a turn back to what it should have been on and that was Phish.
I pm'd getfresh and we had already cleared the air between the two of us when Burton did that. It was uncalled for and he was being an ass and all I did was call it how I saw it

my wife works with retarded people everyday..and the picture you paint of families getting their panties in a bunch over words is simply not true.
they just want their kid to have as normal a life as possible..if they care that much about what words people use (joking or not)..then its about them..not the kid.
^To me it is taking a technical term that describes a condtion one person cannot help and using it to denigrate someone else who does not have said condition. Like I said it is just my opinion, but I do not really see a difference.

If you would just put it in the filter to change it to Special Needs I think this would make almost everyone happy.

I have personal friends - not families that i work with or anything that "get their panties in a bunch" and find it offensive and I find it offensive. The fact that oen person found it offensive and said something about it should have been enough - as I just posted getfresh and I have already talked and we are cool but Burton was just being an ass and that's what i called him
