This is kind of a packing question, not sure where else to post this. I'm looking at extendable camera monopods, but it looks like a police nightstick. Can I bring that on a plane in my carry-on? And get into Centeroo with it? Any thoughts welcome, thanks

ok thanks. I thought about tweeting my airline but I don't know if I want to put that question out there to them. I feel more comfortable asking about it here though.

I'd look at the TSA website to see if there's an issue, but I doubt there is. worst case just ship it to me. haha I live 10-15 from the Nashville airport.

One year on my way to roo I had a bunch of strange camping equipment in my carry on. The strangest being a lantern that collapsed into a perfect cube. It definetly got some heavy inspection, and I got pulled aside and had to explain what a lot of it was and why the hell I was carrying it on. Basically be friendly and don't get the least bit defensive and as long as it's consistent with the rest of your stuff it shouldn't raise any real flags.

ok thanks hakunaMATTata
good call MacRoober
The TSA lists Billy Clubs as a no go. After a google image search, I think they would not let me Carry-On that collapse-able monopod because isn't a billy club the same as a Baton? These look very similar to me.
And just for the record, I'm not so much interested in taking selfies. Instead, using the main camera on my iPhone to get some elevated video clips.

Photography equipment is different than a weapon tho, I would call because I really don't see why it'd be a problem. You could at least put it in your checked bag? Unless your not checking bag. It's at least worth calling and talking to someone in person...

EZ up advice? I've seen some cheap ones that don't hold up well in normal weather, let alone storms. Target has a sale going right now. Anybody have any experience with this brand?
I've had my Anker charger for a year now and it's my most prized festival possession. Everyone always gets so jealous when I whip it out and they see me charging my phone.

You can get the actual EZ-up brand for the same price from Academy Sports. With any of them, you'll want tent stakes, weights and tarps if you want them to hold up to storms.

Not joking about this - I've used it to pick up girls at several festivals/confrences:
"Hey there, I'm cooper! Do you wanna charge your phone for free? Just hang out with me for the next hour or two!"

Oh definitely.
They'll see me taking a picture with my phone with the charging cable hooked in and feeding into my pocket. I'll just smile at them and tell them to reach in my pants and plug it in.
This is the one I actually have. Little cheaper, but only 10,000mAh. I get about 8 full charges out of it.

Hey, I saw this deal at Target this week too but after reading some customer reviews regarding the Embark brand EZ ups, I plan to steer clear. More than one reviewer said the metal legs bended easily even to the point of breaking. Even after contacting the manufacturer, reviewers pretty much were SOL. I'm going to keep my eyes out for a sturdier EZ up!
The EZUPs with slanted legs are totally fine. I have 3 and no one has ever tripped on one. The actual shaded area will be smaller than the straight leg kind, but it's plenty. NtheHAM

Thanks for the info. Ordered mine earlier. Trying to knock out the necessities in advance. Waited til last minute last year and ended up less prepared than I should have been. Lesson learned

Grab some tent stakes, sandbags (for weighting the legs) and a tarp for the roof if you're worried about weather. Gusts of wind are your biggest enemy, regardless of leg type, because the canopy will act like as sail and get carried.
If you look at the people who have been doing it for years, you'll see they tarp and tie everything:
