Byrne on Friday too? This thread is so depressing. Friday is going to be so conflict-ridden, for me, and then the rest of the weekend is going to be extremely light. Well, not that light, plenty of awesome bands, but light compared to a festival day made up of the bands I missed on Friday.
Friday is even harder for me to figure out than Saturday. I'm beginning to lean towards the idea of the headlining set Friday being a Phish late night set this year with all stages open until 12:00 or 1:00 am when Phish goes on.

i doubt that much, but the tents may go on later than they usually do. maybe ending at 9 instead of of 7-7:30.

Byrne on mainstage Friday would be sick, Byrne-Beasties-Phish, I'm scared that Bonnaroo is gonna throw us a curveball and make Byrne a midnight show, however I do agree that since he will be in Dallas on Sunday the most likely day to perform is Friday.

CONFLICTEROO!!!
Phish's late night set will not be unopposed. It would make to many people angry, Including me.
you would be correct. I am going to give them a chance on sunday but I don't think there should be two times during the weekend where Phish is my only option. Especially latenight.

That is kind of what I have been thinking as well, it lets the Beasties play the Main stage, just not unopposed, then it all clears up around two for the Epicness to begin. With the exception of maybe some Metal or Hip Hop in The Other Tent, since those two genres are the ones most full of people who do not like Phish.

Given the fact that I think I can conservatively guess between 50-70,000 people will be at that Phish show, you should probably count yourself in a minority of folks.
Look, I totally sympathize with not particularly being psyched about Phish, but it's undeniable they're the biggest thing going at Roo this year and the majority of people will be primarily drawn by them. And once you get past the idea of late night's options being at the very least severely reduced (because frankly it's pointless to run 3-4 stages of name act music opposite late night Phish), you might see how much this frees up the possibility of more acts on the stages preceeding the Phish late night set and the chances of a big name, subheadliner act being added to the bill.
Yeah there is just as much dark for acts 9-2, as their is 1-5, so it should offset nicely, and if you don't like it do waht I did during Metallica and Pearl Jam last year, take a nap and know you will be well rested for raging the next day.
phish will not be unopposed. oakenfold and girl talk are not going to play before midnight. and after phish is over would be too late, because who knows how late phish will play.

I could see them opening up The Other Tent for dj acts on the other side of the grounds, but I honestly, don't see why you'd run 3 tents opposite of Phish. Hooray for options, but it just seems a bit pointless to me given most of the people will be at Phish.

Well if they do it, there would be a lot more going on up until that point, it would be a stage time neutral way to handle it. Plus it would explain the headliner announcement only having the info it did. I didn't like the headliners last year but there they were unopposed, if you don't like it gut it out or take a nap. Or just trip over a rock and watch the pretty lights all night.
