although...
i could see something like beastie boys going from 9-11pm on what stage, then femi kuti 11pm-1am on which stage, phish 1-5am on what stage, maybe even have oakenfold on which stage from like 3-5 or 6 am
i don't know...
it seems fitting for oakenfold to be in a tent
at the same time, i think bonnaroo might go for the first ever dance/electro/trance show latenight show on a big stage

that's how i had beasties, femi and phish before i added david byrne. that pushed beasties back some. i don't think there will ever be a dj on which stage. maybe something like daft punk, thievery corporation, but not anyone we have on this years lineup so far.

it seems odd that they'd have additional latenight shows going on at the same time as phish...you would think they wouldn't because they have headliner status and, well, they're phish...then i start thinking "if you're at bonnaroo this year, you'll have two chances to see phish...you can see them play latenight, but you'll also have the option to see a few other latenight shows if you wish...and...you'll also get the option to see phish close out the festival, while no one else is playing
i kind of feel bad for the bands who will be playing at the same time as phish's latenight show
everyone at roo won't be there just to see phish...but when it comes to their latenight show, i bet there's a noticeable difference in crowd size between phish's show, the latenight tent shows and the crowd sizes of latenight tent shows in the past
i don't think the late nights up against phish will suffer as much as people think. femi kuti may not be a huge crowd, but if there is a dj tent or a hip hop tent or galactic or the super jam, they're still going to be packed. phish did have 5 pm listed, but i don't believe it. unless someone is playing after them and that isn't happening. there's no way they would shut everything down that early.
Phish's late night set will not be unopposed. It would make to many people angry, Including me.
Given the fact that I think I can conservatively guess between 50-70,000 people will be at that Phish show, you should probably count yourself in a minority of folks.
Look, I totally sympathize with not particularly being psyched about Phish, but it's undeniable they're the biggest thing going at Roo this year and the majority of people will be primarily drawn by them. And once you get past the idea of late night's options being at the very least severely reduced (because frankly it's pointless to run 3-4 stages of name act music opposite late night Phish), you might see how much this frees up the possibility of more acts on the stages preceeding the Phish late night set and the chances of a big name, subheadliner act being added to the bill.
Hmm, I gotta disagree with you there, dudezer. I think there's a sizeable contingent of people who will only have minimal to moderate interest in Phish, and one headlining gig will be enough for them. Every year, late night is chock full of conflicts, and I don't think this year will be any different. Just look at how many acts really can't fit anywhere other than late-night - either NIN or Beastie Boys (depending on which one is the third headliner), Snoop Dogg, Paul Oakenfold, Girl Talk, The Mars Volta, et cetera. They're not going to shut down the rest of late night or "severely reduce" the other options. If AC/Superfly wanted Phish to play two unopposed sets, they would have booked them for two headlining gigs.

Dont think of it as Bonnaroo shutting down early. Its more like Phish playing longer. This doesn't mean they will stop at 9.. A nice 5 hour set would be great
Well David Byrne being on Friday changes everything. I had him pegged for Sunday (since it's lacking names so far). I honestly can't say David Byrne playing the Which Stage, especially over someone like Al Green on the main stage. Nothing against Al Green but I think Snoop Dogg (afternoon slot) and David Byrne on the main stage is a much larger draw than Erykah Badu and Al Green (which I think is the Which Stage in that order). I also think Snoop playing what I like to call "the Marley afternoon slot" on the What Stage makes a ton of sense. They needed a name that was bigger draw than Snoop and I think David Byrne fills that slot. I don't see them putting three people before the headliner on any of the days on the What Stage since they didn't last year. So my bet is Snoop > Byrne> Beasties > Phish which makes for a bad ass day. I also think Moe into Phish on Sunday is looking more and more likely.
Does anyone agree that Byrne is too big for the Which Stage and that Snoop afternoon slot makes more sense now than before?
I think Yeah Yeah Yeahs will headline a tent and TV on the Radio will be late night Which Stage like MMJ last year. The popularity growth for TV on the Radio (a musical guest spot on SNL for one) puts them in similar shoes for that slot. With that being said I stick by Snoop into Byrne into Beasties into Phish on the What Stage and probably TBA into Galactic into Erykah Badu into Al Green on Which Stage (pretty funky sequence I think)
This Friday madness has got to stop. Badu, Byrne, TV on the Radio, Animal Collective...too much on one day.
Maybe I missed something, but it looks like Grizzly Bear's Myspace is saying Thursday again?
I think Snoop is looking more Saturday or Sunday at this point. Andrew Bird better not be Friday as many are predicting.
There will be normal late nights (maybe no Which Stage) opposing Phish on Friday and they will be well attended, just easier to get up close for. I'm a huge Phish fan and I will probably at least take a peek because I know I have Sunday to look forward too.

Vampire Weekend played SNL last year before Roo and were only a Thursday night show. I wouldn't count on SNL being proof for them on the which stage.

I'm sorry but isnt snoop>beasties make more sense considering there both hip hop? It seems like bryne would break up the flo and even though I like him I really don't want that flo to break up....

TVOTR is billed 14th in the lineup. VW weren't even billed in the top half of last year's lineup. They are easily big enough for the Which Stage.
