I think people are making too much of this whole "David Byrne curating a stage" thing. I don't think they're going to add another stage - rather, I think that on Friday, one of the stages (probably the Which Stage) will just be given to this little project. The article on Bonnaroo.com mentions that all those artists will be playing on the same stage on Friday....now, that's 5 artists, plus Byrne. That's a bit much to cram into one stage in one day, right? Unless...David Byrne goes on say, around 9-ish? And plays opposite the Beastie Boys? Would seem to make sense. We know that all those bands are playing on Friday, and the most that any one stage has ever hosted in one day has been 5 bands (including a late night).
But this doesn't seem to necessitate a new stage - just that for one day, on one stage, the lineup will be of David Byrne's choosing. And then I think that either it's capped off by a Byrne performance Friday evening during the Beasties, or a late night show on that same stage.
I'm pretty sure they're building David Byrne his own personal theatre on the farm grounds and his performance will, in fact, be in 3-D. They're paying for it with the money they got from selling out to MTV.

in the jambase article it specifically states that David is curating one of the TENT stages which is what I can see with the artists that are listed only 2 of them are popular enough to play the which stage, which is designated for more popular acts that will attract a bigger crowd, so I can see it the way sangreal has it listed in his mock but I'm thinking that it is going to be one of the existing tents and not a new tent because if they were to put up a new tent they would have to have other bands play it on saturday and sunday it would be pointless to put up a new tent only for friday and it not be used on saturday or sunday.

where does it state that?
David Byrne has assembled a number of performers for the first artist-curated stage in the eight-year history of the Bonnaroo Music Festival. On the evening of Friday, June 12 Byrne, who is performing the "Songs of David Byrne and Brian Eno," will host his recent collaborators Santigold and Dirty Projectors, singer/songwriter and founder of Righteous Babe Records Ani DiFranco, former Polyphonic Spree member and Beggar's Banquet recording artist St. Vincent and up-and-coming multi-instrumental all-female Norwegian alt/folk band Katzenjammer. "We've been interested in inviting artists to play a curatorial role in Bonnaroo for some time now," according to Bonnaroo co-founder and producer Ashley Capps. "David was the logical choice for us and we were thrilled that he agreed. His love for music of all kinds and his passion for sharing that music make him the ultimate musical guide."
Byrne adds "this was an easy one. I basically reeled off a list of what I was listening too recently or who I had seen live recently and Ashley and Co did the rest. It's not like these folks need me to introduce them to a wider audience, at least I don't think they do... I'm just thrilled they'll be added to the festival lineup.
In addition to his Bonnaroo appearance, Byrne will be performing at theaters and festivals across the U.S. and Europe throughout the summer of 2009 on his year-long "Songs of David Byrne and Brian Eno" tour in support of his and Eno's critically lauded new record, Everything That Happens Will Happen Today. The set list includes songs from his numerous collaborations with Eno including tracks from several Talking Heads albums produced by Eno, the pair's 1981 collaboration My Life in the Bush of Ghosts and their newest collaborative effort Everything That Happens..., Byrne has already played to sold-out concert halls across the world including two nights at New York City's Radio City Music Hall. His show has been lauded by reviewers as "gorgeous, melodic and spiritually uplifting" (Chicago Sun-Times) and features "the most open-hearted singing of [Byrne's] career" (Washington Post). Check JamBase's review of Byrne in S.F. on his last tour here.
I would guess This or That Tent for Byrne's deal. Am I right in remembering that The Other Tent is slightley smaller than This or That? To me the bill doesn't seem quite loaded enough for Which Stage, but too big for a smaller stage (such as a new one, Something Else, or even Other) with DiFranco and presumabley Byrne.
I would prefer Byrne conflicting with the Beasties (might try to catch a little Beasties and most of Byrne) to conflicting with Phish (might miss Byrne). Conflicting with Badu would also suck for me.
From looking at the mocks, it seems increasingly likely that some of these bands listing Friday are not actually going to play Friday. I didn't pay much attention in '07 or '08, but I know in previous years that happened quite a bit. Hopefully this will bring some conflict relief.

This was what I was starting to wonder about. I really hope that we can get some of those Friday artists spread out.

Yes and no - the tent itself is smaller, but the surrounding area is better suited to handle a larger crowd. It's kind of downhill to the tent so if you're way back you can still see fairly well. Also it's in a corner, so being far back from the tent doesn't hurt your ability to hear, whereas if you're far back at This or That you're getting close to the Which stage.

I posted this in the Byrne curating thread, but here it is anyway...
My guess = the entire Friday at The Other Tent is the "Byrne bands" listed above.
Katzen>Projectors>St.Vincent>Santo>Ani
That wraps up around 7 or 8, right before his set on Which Stage. It's a 2-hour set, and the Beasties take the What Stage (unopposed) around 9:30-10:00.

i thought that. or all on the which stage with byrne playing last. but it says it's happening "in the evening". so maybe it doesn't start till after byrne's set?

I don't care what you say about me, just spell my name right---P.T. Barnum "As I was walking up the stairs I met a man who wasn't there He wasn't there again today I wish to God he'd go away."

I just noticed the Everest find on pollstar listed on the first page of this thread, they are popular and I have a feeling they will be in a tent instead of a cafe act.

Well that appears to be it for the main stage (besides Katzenjammer and Dirty Projectors which were already announced (Byrne stage announcement is an announcement). It looks like it's all managable and no new tent. By my count on Friday, there is one extra band that wouldn't fit with 3 on the What Stage before the headliner (Beasties), 5 on Which, and 5 in the each tent but if there is a late night Which Stage show (Byrne maybe) on Friday. That would make it work. I have no idea how that will work though (who will play where).
I also think that Volta may get late night and SuperJam may be preheadliner. I could really go either way on that. I suppose I'm biased (pulling for late night) ;D
I just can't see how they would leave non-jam bands fans (I can go either way) with just MGMT and Yeasayer (If NIN is around 3 which I think it will be).
Heymann im willing to bet that 2 or 3 artists listed for Friday will be playing Saturday or Sunday, go back and look at last years Schedule Thread there were a few artists listed for the wrong days im sure there are a few acts that will be playing a different day then were seeing.
As for Volta latenight I really hope it happens but with Yeasayer/MGMT supposedly late night (still hoping this doesnt turn out to be true.) I dont think its going to happen.

If Sangreal's mock for Saturday turns out to be true, I would probably be the happiest person at Bonnaroo that day.
I would get to see: Heartless B@stards, Jenny Lewis, Bon Iver, Robyn Hitchcock and the Venus 3, Mars Volta, Bruce, and Super Jam and NIN and then I would die from exhaustion shortly after.
Volta or Superjam late night, I don't really care anymore either way, I will be at both. The only worry I would have is getting up front for Bruce but I'm sure I could land a spot up front and to the side even if I came straight from Volta (if that were the time slot). Oh one can dream.
That schedule actually looks dead on I think, given the fact that Volta probably will get shafted if the MGMT bit ends up being true as a late night. Does Bon Iver seem like a mid afternoon tent act (given his slot on the lineup)? I also think Steeldrivers will be in the bluegrass tent, otherwise I think its dead on.

i'm curious about how much time bon iver will get to play...clearly he doesn't need an hour and a half, although i'd like to see him fill that time with some new unreleased material possibly if he's got it or some covers or he could sing happy birthday and i'd still be impressed..
anyways...
who here has seen bon iver in concert? i'm thinking he gets an hour to play, tops...maybe only 45 minutes

I got a kick out of his cover of "Your Love" by The Outfield.
