I love this album more and more each time I listen. I find myself humming different parts of Southern Point constantly. Can't get that song out of my head. It's fantastic.

I have not got a chance to listen to the new album. I just heard 'Two Weeks' and it's incredibly awesome. But I have all of their other cd's and when I listen to one, I have to listen to it on repeat a couple of times. I loooove their cd 'Horn of Plenty' and really all of them...'Yellow House' and 'Sorry for the Delay'. Just amazing cd's. Much love for them. And I'm not even sure if I can go to Bonnaroo this year and it makes me really sad. I might try and just find my way in because I'm not supposed to miss this years Bonnaroo...Every artist that I have been obsessing off of are going to be there and it's just a no brainer...and it's in my own state.

No, you're not supposed to miss this year's Bonnaroo, so don't.
And Veckatimest is officially out next week, so all you downloaders, get your booties out there and actually buy a record! Imagine how great it would sound to listen to this on vinyl? (hint hint)

If you order the vinyl from InSound, you not only get the record, you also get the album digital download and a free poster.

After much agonizing, I think I'm going to skip the YYY's for Grizzly Bear. they're just too good to pass on right now. Sorry Karen O, I'm sure Heads Will Still Roll without me.

It sucks that they put YYY's up against GB...oh well too bad for Karen O. This record is amazing and has occupied most of my listening attention in the last two weeks.

Just got the vinyl preorder in and took a first listen. All I can say is, they really outdid themselves this album. Truly great, and one of those albums people will be talking about for a long time.

In all honesty, I believe that Ed Droste and Daniel Rossen are the best songwriters in their prime in the world right now. On any given day, I might rate Dept. Of Eagles over GB or vice versa, both are just so incredible. I've yet to see them play, and getting to see Dirty Projectors > Animal Collective > Grizzly Bear > TVOTR in a row might just kill me.
I hadn't even heard of this band until I started doing research for Bonnaroo and I'm pretty impressed with their new album. This show is now in my top 10.
I, too, will be doing the Dirty Projectors > Animal Collective > Galactic > Grizzly Bear > TV on the Radio Friday afternoon.

It was great to finally bump(seriously, the low end on this disc is NUTS) the real thing in my car today.
(It's only $8 at Best Buy. Really no reason not to get this)
It's a really great album, but I think it's a bit overhyped and I find myself bored with alot of the middle songs(Pitchfork correctly pointed that out). But the songs that prominently feature Rossen's singing are definitely the highlight tracks imo.
Better than Yellow House? To me...no way in hell. I'd give it a 7.5-8.0 at most. But, it's still a fantastic follow up, surely propelling Grizzly Bear to the top tier of Indie acts.
I think it's easily better than Yellow House, and I loved Yellow House. It's more coherent and cohesive from beginning to end. The middle does drift away a bit, but that's not really a complaint. There's just so many songs that grow on you and the whole album feels like a complete piece of work. Yellow House kinda felt like that, but not like this. At any rate, they're both great albums. I just can't stop listening to this album as hard as I try.

I won't be missing these guys at Roo.
I don't know, I like Yellow House, but there was too much space in the album. Too many times where there was nothing going on. In moderation this is fine, but I felt like Yellow House had an overabundance of it.
Veckatimest condenses these moments and constantly gives you surprises through each successive listen, I'll just go track by track. Southern Point and Two Weeks are definitely heavy hitters at the start and the trade off of voices between Rossen and Droste work so well. Southern Point starts off a lot more dynamic than Yellow House could dream of, and once the band goes into the breakdown around the minute mark, you know you're in for an excellent record. Then they hit you with Two Weeks and Droste's voice is so full, and the sputtering synth and keyboards are so good they have me playing this song over and over. The middle of the album is there for a reason, as it needs those lower moments to balance out the beginning and end of the album. They're able to slow it down without losing my attention, and still retain those great moments like the hand claps near the end of All We Ask, the intro to Fine For Now and the repeating chorus of "There was time," the harmonies in Cheerleader, the lightness of Dory, and then we're to my favorite song of the album in Ready, Able.
While I like Rossen's voice, I really like Droste's voice, and on Ready, Able you start to see why. Droste's up in the clouds vocals, along with the synths that run under the entire song, and eventually take charge around the chorus. The song is layered so well, with the low end( which surprisingly really does bump like you said) and the reverb drenched guitars. About Face and Hold Still are slower, but even still work with the entire album as a whole, which I really like. Grizzly Bear did not go out and make one single, they made a cohesive unit that while you can pick and choose, becomes so much more rewarding when listened in it's entirety.
While You Wait For The Others, my second favorite on the album, announces Veckatimest as an album of the year front runner and Grizzly Bear as one of our best bands. Rossen is on point, and I really like the guitar riff, but there's a point in the song where it just blows everything out of the water at around 3:00 minutes. The song slowly builds and the vocals are highlighted and then at about 3:20 everything that was brought forth in the album breaks and explodes, the layered instruments that are just right and the beautiful vocal harmonies, and the hairs on my neck stand up, easily one of the best moments of new music this year, or even for as long as I can remember.
Then the two most Yellow House tracks end it, I Live With You and Foreground. I Live With You uses things that Grizzly Bear likes to play with, intricate arrangements that they used with the orchestra they played with in concert. While Foreground lays the album gently away.
This album is not overhyped in the least in the way that some buzz bands are. Instead this is a well deserved time in the light for a band that has tons of talent, writes amazing songs, and will be here for years to come I hope.

See, for me, that's what makes Yellow House superior. I love albums that create an atmosphere and sort of take you for a ride. Veckatimest is awesome, I really love it, but it can't take me to that place like Yellow House can.
Right now, this is my frontrunner for album of the year. I'm excited to see them live, but I've seen them before, and I'm realizing that I would have preferred to have seen them on the main stage, with the atmospherics and vocals drifting off into the open space. The tent show will be great, and packed for sure, but I may actually end up drifting away from it if I can't get a good spot for sound quality.
not too sure if I am liking this album yet. as someone who likes fleet foxes, radiohead and other music, it might be just even a bit too pretentiously arty to me right now, but I am sure I will have to listen to it more to "get" it, if there is something to "get" for me........
