(Very surprised there isn't a thread on these guys)
I've seen Grizzly Bear twice and I must spread my praise for their live show. It's hauntingly beautiful. I don't remember blinking either time I saw them.
If you're looking for something to fill that void between the eerie-ness of Bon Iver and the soaring pop melodies of Band of Horses..this is what you're looking for.
Love Grizzly Bear and have yet to see them live, so this one's definitely a top 5 for me at Roo. I'm also holding out hope for a Department of Eagles add.

Ah, bummer... I have a small case of turrets, and my tick is blinking hard every so often... and you didn't even blink once! I admire you.
I love Grizzly Bear. They have an incredible video of "Knife" but they do it walking on some street in Paris with only their voices. Beauty at its best.

La Blogoteque is a great site that has tons of impromptu concerts like that. There are a ton of great artists on there including a few that are going to be at Bonnaroo (Bon Iver, Animal Collective, Elvis Perkins, etc) and some ones that I really wish were there (Beirut, Fleet Foxes)
When Grizzly Bear released their much-loved 2006 LP Yellow House, maybe the world wasn't quite ready for their specific kind of fractured fragility. But since that time, Fleet Foxes have taken a variation on their churchy close-harmony prettiness steez to mainstream, sonic brethren Animal Collective are in the Top 20, and Grizzly Bear themselves have gotten to the point where they can premier unreleased tracks on late night talk shows. They are teetering on the precipice of something huge with this next album of theirs.
And now, as Stereogum reports and Grizzly Bear's publicist confirms, that album has a title: Veckatimest. (It's named after one of the Elizabeth Islands in Massachusetts. No, nobody expected you to know that.)
The album doesn't have a specific release date yet, but it's due in May. As we reported last year, band member Chris Taylor served as producer on Veckatimest, and frontman Ed Droste claimed that they're shooting for more of a "live sound." We're not entirely sure what that might mean, but it somehow involves recording with a children's choir, as well your favorite band's favorite neoclassical composer Nico Muhly and, possibly, forever-sleepy Beach House singer Victoria Legrand. A few songs the band has been playing out lately are expected to appear on the album: "Two Weeks", "While You Wait for the Others", and "Fine for Now".
The band hasn't announced any immediate tour plans, but they do have a few gigs coming up. The biggest one is probably their sold out jam with the Brooklyn Philharmonic (and with arrangements from Muhly) at BAM's Howard Gilman Opera House on February 28. And on February 14, they'll play a New Yorker-sponsored show at Galapagos in Brooklyn. They're also set to play Bonnaroo on June 11, and they'll be on hand at the SXSW hype fest in March.
i believe they opened for radiohead last summer, and i really dug it..
Yeah they did, at least on some shows including the one I saw here in Montreal. I didn't care for there set myself. I love their album but I didn't feel they had the right sound to playing in front of 50,000 people in a field. I would love to see them in a club and I think they'll sound better in a tent at B'roo
Wow, funny. I always thought Beach House kind of reminded me of a more mellow, more female version of Grizzly Bear, so it's cool that Victoria Legrand is going to do some recording with them.
I love Beach House! It's like every song has a point in it where she just breaks it down. I think Victoria Legrand is a hotty. I probably wouldn't say that if she was say, a grocery bagger at ALDI's, but then again...maybe I would

the Band of Horses cover of their song Plans on the "Friend EP" is damn good, i would love to see some sort of collaboration at roo, band of horses and grizzly bear on stage at the same time.... Hot Damn that would be awesome.
Didnt know who they were till i saw them open for Radiohead last summer. Their show was surprisingly good. Most of the time u just want the main act to start but i wasnt wanting Grizz to stop. I was excited to see them on the lineup this year. In my opinion they would be the ideal thursday nighter...but so would so many others...

i was looking forward to seeing them with radiohead this summer. infortunately i got stuck in traffic on the way from the hotel to the blossom in cleveland and missed their set.
Saw radiohead three times over the summer and Gizzly Bear only opened for them the last time i saw them. Liars did the first two and they were honestly dull. Grizzly Bear got me amped up and ready for what was to come......Radiohead = best band in the world. ( My Morning Jackett too)

When I first saw their name on the lineup, I thought they were some gnarly metal band (ala Mastodon). But funny thing is when I actually listened to them and realized how off I was, I ended up diggin their music. I could def. see relaxing to their set (pending conflicts)....

Noticed Grizzly Bear and AA Bondy are playing Thursday night. This would be one crazy way to start the weekend. For anyone who likes GB: heard of Department of Eagles? Almost better than GB.

Almost...but not really. Dept. of Eagles is a solid side-project for Rossen, but doesn't stand up to Grizzly Bear. Some of the newer material I've heard coming out of GB is just remarkable.
Agreed. Heard Cheerleaders?...has potential for best track of 2009.
