Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Eyes on the prize. That's right 12 weeks till I start traveling. I leave on Tuesday morning to get there Wednesday afternoon! Got to keep my self in check. I don't really work out on the weekend and I always gain like 5-7 lbs. I can't be doing that for the home stretch!
Thanks for the well wishes guys. I managed to cut back on smoking over the past three days, which I'll hopefully keep up with and have been cooking and eating in rather than eating out. Good luck to everyone trying to have a physically more pleasant Roo experience this year!

Just keep making baby steps! Little stuff like drinking only water, eating 1 fruit and veggie with every meal, and walking whenever possible makes a huge difference! But quitting smoking will be a huge step! You can do it!

Aight, new tack here. IF'ing made me totally mental last week and did nothing but cripple my workouts, I remembered why I don't do that anymore...So, this week its an extreme low carb cutting week. Yesterday I wanted to bite the heads off my coworkers but today I feel great. Hardest part is eating enough calories, since this diet kills my hunger. Hoping for a whoosh sometime in the next 3-4 days...

Down 4 lbs in 2 days. I'd call that a whoosh, even if its only water If it crushes this stall I'm psyched. Though I really miss chocolate and potatoes... next week!

Good job. I know what you mean about potatoes. Kettle cooked chips are my kryptonite. They're just so crunchy. Even if it is water if it keeps you motivated great! It seems I always gain like 6 lbs on the weekend then by Friday I am back to the same I was the Friday before. Just keep working is my motto. Simone smarter than me told me not to worry about the scale only how your clothes fit. If you weigh more and your clothes fit loose then you're adding muscle which is good!

Thanks! And oh man, I love me some kettle chips. And sweet potato fries. But my downfall (because it seems healthy-ish, so its easy to justify, I think) are boiled redskin potatoes. I could seriously eat nothing but boiled redskin potatoes with a little salt every meal, every day, forever. Must be the New Englander in me!
The nice thing about water weight loss is, I can see a lot more muscle definition in my arms and legs already. It definitely helping my motivation, eating and training wise!
Finally able to move with relatively little pain. Doc said no go on training next week, but I should be able to enjoy my vacation with the family. Looks like my weight is still stalled, but at least I'm not gaining!

Havent checked in on this thread for a while but way to go everyone! Sounds like you're all keeping up the work. It'll pay off!!
I've had a lot of shows and a lot of drinking the last few weeks, but I've kept up with my running group's training schedule which means I'm spending a lot more time working out. Even if it's a zero sum game right now. I think my capacity for work is increasing which is awesome.

Okay, so, I'm getting married in six months, so it is officially time for me to get my shit together and do this. I'm at 200 right now, so I'm setting a goal of at least 30 pounds off before the wedding. (I'm hoping for a little more than that, but I think 30 is definitely doable.) I will still have about another 40 to go after that, but I don't want to push too much into the first six months and then not be able to maintain it. Lifestyle changes and all that business, you know?

If you really focus and work extremely hard 6 months is a ridiculously long time for body transformation. Really is and this is very doable!! But don't take the time for granted. GET ON IT!

First of all congrats on the engagement!
I know what you are going through. I had always been a 170 kind of guy. I woke up one day at 211! Not AM pounds. I decided then and there to do something about it. I changed my diet big time, like from 3000 calorie days to 1500 calorie days (salads, chicken, fish), I started doing lots of cardio an hour plus a day four and five days a week. I lost 30 lbs in six weeks doing this. After some initial yo-yoing from 180-190 over the next two months I have managed to keepit off and even lose some more. It was real tough but very doable. I am a man so maybe that helped. But you can do it. You don't need to and probably shouldn't do what I did as i am not sure it was the healthiest way to lose that much weight but slow gradual change should allow youto achieve your goal.
Now I eat lots of salads, greek yogurt, flax seeds for omega 3, and tons of green tea and ice cold water. Eat a little bit between meals like 100 calories or so several times a day
Decoding to do something is the hardest part. Once you really make a decision the rest is easy.

The only thing that excites me about not moving around a lot, whenever that may be, is getting a spin bike for the house. Being able to knock out cardio and base miles at home during the winter must be awesome.

Down another half pound this morning. Woot! Very low carb works... Going to try for a second week if I can stand it, but that's it. I'm starting to get real sick of meat...
I do have a question for your fitness types who really watch your macros. Do you shoot for the old adage of 1g protein/lb of bodyweight/day? I never seem to hit that...I run about 75% of that. This is a special case couple weeks for me of course, with the VLCing. But when I go back to my maintenance diet I'd love to up the protein...how do you do it? Protein shakes? Chicken breasts? Cottage cheese? Or should I not worry about it?
I have thought about losing weight for a long time but have not been motivated to do it, until my friend suggested we got to Bonnaroo! Now I'm committed. The thought of being the "big guy" in our group (going with mostly former college athletes) kicked me into shape. Here's what I've been doing for the past week and plan to keep going until Roo.
Fruit in the morning One chicken sandwich or wrap for lunch or a salad Can of soup and salad for dinner (like 300-400 calories in the soup). Then snacks like fruit, rice cakes, and veggies as snacks.
I used to drink a least one soft drink a day, I have quit that cold turkey. I used to eat qdoba, penn station, and fast food burgers for most meals, have that up.
I've also stated working out every day. Mostly about 15-30 minutes on the elliptical or bike, then a few reps of beach muscles.
Any advice or suggestion stuff on this would be helpful. If anyone knows any filling foods that I can eat would be good. I feel really hungry a lot of the time. Thanks for the help guys.

I drank a lot of ice cold water (your body burns calories warming it up to body temp). Green tea get your metabolism up so drink lots to it. Greek yogurt is high in protein. I eat one every day. Flax seeds are high in omega3 so I mis a tbs or 2 in w my yogurt. Bran buds cereal is high in fiber (51% drv) so i mix that w my yogurt. For me its seems a key to losing weight is digestion. Fresh fruit is low calorie. My sister convinced me to eat many small snack through out the day to keep m metabolism up and it worked for me. Spicy foods also get the metabolism up. I like a chicken breast w salsa and pico and a salad for dinner.
Just finished day five at the gym this week! Looking forward to two days off this weekend! Keep it up everybody! I can't wait to see all you good looking people at the roo!

I spent a few minutes reading this and you are all doing so well. Congratulations. I have been trying to eat better for the last couple of months and two weeks ago I started going to the gym again and doing about an hour on the elliptical about 4 times a week. It really kicks my butt and I am terribly out of shape, but I have dropped 8 pounds. My goal is to get into shape by Bonnaroo and hopefully I can shed about 35-40 pounds altogether. It seems like such a long way away, so I don't know if that is very realistic by June, but I'm going to try to get there by the end of the year. It sure will help when this awful winter is finally over so I can go outside again.

Ill have to try some of this. And I love spicy foods so I guess I should start eating more of them. Franks Hot Sauce on everything?

One thing that fills me up and is very helpful are my double dose protein shakes. I take 16 ounces of milk, 2 scoops of protein powder, and maybe some yogurt, and I put it in my blender cup (they're like 7$). Make sure you're not going too fast on the elliptical or bike because it's important to keep your heart rate at a fat burning level. I would focus a little more on lifting as well. Here's a little bit of info on the best excercise you can do.
Squats. Strength training is essential, the experts say. "The more muscular fitness you have," says Cotton, "the greater the capacity you have to burn calories." And our experts tended to favor strength-training exercises that target multiple muscle groups. Squats, which work the quadriceps, hamstrings, and gluteals, are an excellent example. "They give you the best bang for the buck because they use the most muscle groups at once," says Oldsmar, Fla., trainer David Petersen. Form is key, though, warns Petersen. "What makes an exercise functional is how you perform the exercise," he says. "If you have bad technique, it's no longer functional." For perfect form, keep feet shoulder-width apart and back straight. Bend knees and lower your rear, says Cotton: "The knee should remain over the ankle as much as possible." "Think of how you sit down in a chair, only the chair's not there," suggests Gotlin. Physical therapist Adam Rufa, of Cicero, N.Y., says practicing with a real chair can help. "Start by working on getting in and out of a real chair properly," he says. Once you've mastered that, try just tapping the chair with your bottom, then coming back up. Then do the same motion without the chair. Gotlin sees lots of patients with knee pain, and says quadriceps weakness is the cause much of the time. If you feel pain going down stairs, he says, strengthening your quads with squats may very well help.
