Alright - this week was rough. I think the everyday workouts are catching up with me - sleep wise. Missed workout monday, strained back tuesday, missed workout wednesday, workout yesterday and today were HARD. Tomorrow I plan to sleep in. And then do something. but I'm not sure what yet... Food-wise, I think I've been ...okay. been eating lunch instead of meal replacement shakes, so my body is like - WHAT? FOOD?! I'M KEEPING IT! I need to focus this weekend for sure. Next weekend I know I'll be eating CAKE.
Just wanted to pop in and give everyone some weekend motivation to try and stay on track! much <3!

Hellloooo folks. I just got back from the gym and although I HATED going once I get there I seem to be ok. I have a few motivators behind me though that this thread have helped put into perspective.
I'm going on a month long trip to Ireland pre-Roo and I have decided to spend a few days cycling while I'm there....and I am TERRIBLE on a bike. I get tired after like 2 minutes...but I have been gradually working my way up and I am now up to 15 minutes. I know that's not a lot for some folks, but it's a big deal for me!
One of my bestestest bellas is now coming to Roo this year....she is a super fit yoga instructor and I want to be confident beside her ( I know I know I shouldn't compare myself to others....but when it's 4000 degrees out and I'm sweaty and tired....it's sort of inevitable). It's all about confidence, and that's something I lack, the gym is sloooowly giving me confidence in myself.
Also some things that were brought up before:
I too am a daily corn eater. I use it as motivation sometimes. I'll drive out to the woods, eat some corn and walk at a high pace until I'm sober enough to drive home. Another thing I like is to borrow a friends dog. Dogs are super entertaining after some corn and their energy is contagious. Play in a park, or go for a hike. I find it gives me energy more often than makes me sluggish so that's helpful too lol. When I do need to munch on something I turn to yogurt and granola, fresh fruit (which I pre cut and have ready in the fridge), sweet red peppers are as good as candy and my old faithful is oat cereal....with bananas!!
As for various music, I find Rise Against really motivating as well as Flogging Molly. Another thing I do at the gym is listen to a playlist of artist playing at Roo this year. I get to discover new music and I just picture myself dancing in a summer dress to whatever tune it is.
Sorry for the long post I just wanted to share some things that work for me. Aaaaaand maybe I'm just full of energy from my gym trip.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go on an overnight drunk, and in 10 days I'm going to set out to find the shark that ate my friend and destroy it. Anyone who wants to tag along is more than welcome.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
^ Your wagon? It's probably with mine, about 5 miles back!
I currently have 18 beers and 33 bottles of wine in my house, but no fruits or veggies. Or much food of any other kind, for that matter. And because it's the weekend & my LFA (lazyfluffyass = new word! ) is glued to the Coachella stream, I'm OK with that.
On a related note: come Monday, when I resume kicking said LFA back into shape, I'll add plenty of Madness to the playlist. Yowza, their set last night reminded me of my ska phase when I was mad fit from dancing so much at shows. Oh yeah. Those were the skinny jeans good times.
I don't know if this was mentioned before but if you have an iphone or ipad look for the free app myfitness pal. It is a calorie counting app. Not sure if it is on android. You basically put in your info and it asks what you what you want your goal weight to be. Then it gives you a daily calorie goal. You then log in everything you eat during the day and it subtracts what you have eaten from your calorie goal. It has a huge database of food and also has a bar code reader to make it easier. Plus you can log any exercise you do during the day and then the calories you burn get added back to your calorie goal number. This is a great app and I've already lost 12 pounds in two weeks by using it. This is a great app and the best part is it is free. Hands down one of the best apps I've ever used. I usually leave enough calories at the end of the day so I can sit down and relax with a few beers while I watch tv.
Another great app if you are a runner is Cardio Trainer. Pretty sure it is only on Android though. This app is great for logging your runs. Pushes you to keep going further and faster.
Yeah sda! I have fallen off the wagon enough that I haven't touched the scale. Last time I did, I was 1/2 a pound a way from where I gave up the weight loss battle a few years ago. Must. Pass.

I didn't calorie count this weekend, but plan on starting back today. I also try to leave a few hundred for beer. hehe. On an excercise note, Caleb and I walked to the store yesterday (about 1/2 mile each way?)! Yay!
well the bottle of wine, pizza, and oreos didnt help me on Friday. Nor did the king of pops and tasty inc food truck food at the Festival on Ponce yesterday. But I had a really fun weekend
Today was workout, coffee, water, pad thai for lunch. Now I'm on more water. tonight I think I'm gonna sweet pepper and hummus it. I'm also going for the additional workout this evening. Only 7 weeks to go? I'm ready to kick some tail.

Well lookie here! PASTE magazine (bless their indie hearts, I love 'em so!) published a list of "The 80 Best Workout Songs" - yeah, back in 2010.
An updated list needs to happen soon! Too bad Josh Jackson isn't an Inforooster...
Thanks Holls I may pick and choose from these tonight. How is the shinsplintz doing?
And on that note, does anyone have any advice for lower back stretches? Mine is still a little tweaked. I've been doing heating pad and motrin and aleve. I do the stretching bit where you lay on your back and pull a knee up and over the opposite leg, and also both knees up to the chest and rock side to side like a little back massage. I think it's getting better, but it drastically reduces the amount of exercises I can do at bootcamp.

Mayo: shins are great since I haven't walked in days! (Yay for rain that washes away some pollen; boo for having to drive instead.) Will hit the gym on campus to compensate. Since final exams are next week, maybe my students will be elsewhere & not hogging the machines. God, I hate working out beside the 20-somethings in their barely-there spandex, looking all fresh & non-sweaty after an hour on the StairMonster. My inner dialogue? "OK, honey...flaunt that body now, 'cause you've got about 15yrs before gravity catches up with ya - then it's all downhill from there!"
As for your back: my chiropractor preaches "20 on/20 off" for ice & heat. I tend to blow my sacrum alignment periodically & need adjustments. It's agonizing pain, and stretching before/after has ZERO benefit. So yeah, I know how much lower back pain sucks! Did you ask your trainer for suggestions?
@kstphr: WTG, dude! Go get 'em! AWWW SWEET, ONLY 50 MORE DAYS!!!
I've run 45 minutes every other day since about high school. I've found that the music makes it 100 times easier. It's also a great way to learn some of the music. Every year I've gone to Roo I ended making a running play list with strictly music from artists playing at Roo. Here's the list from this year, I put it on shuffle since it totals a little more than an hour. I tend to make tweak it as I figure out which songs I like running to and new additions to the lineup (Black Box Revelation) I'd be more than happy to post the ones from 08, 09, and 11 if anyone's interested.

1. Go to target or somewhere and get a foam roller. They're usually by the yoga stuff. 2. Keep doing the stretches you are already doing. Do some hamstring stretches too. Then do these: Lay flat on your back with your legs straight, bring your right leg up and cross your ankle above the left knee. Raise your left knee until your left leg is bent at a 90deg angle. Keeping both of your shoulders flat on the floor, lower your right foot and left knee to the floor. With your left hand, pull your right knee towards the floor until you feel a really good stretch in your glutes/piriformis. Sometimes it helps to lay your right arm out on the floor for counterbalance. Repeat on the opposite side. Most lower back pain is caused by tension in your glutes, hams, and other posterior muscles. Hope this helps!

Love this thread! I was lurking it a couple of months ago and it motivated me to get back on the exercise wagon. Then my wife wanted an app to help with weight loss, so we downloaded MyFitnessPal. I have now lost 15 pounds in 6 weeks and am under 200 for the first time since my 9 year old son was born!
MyFitnessPal is great because it has an huge data base of foods and can easily scan barcodes. This is the first time in my life I have monitored calories, carbs, fat, etc. of the food I eat. Just being knowledgeable that four Pizza Hut Meat Lovers pizzas has about 1800 calories was an eye opener. I still don't really go hungry but just choose healthier foods to eat. I will skip meals to drink 1000 calories of heavy duty IPAs though. I also lift weights every other day and coach my sons' baseball teams. I do a full stretching and running routine with the team every practice and game.
Just thought I would share, say thanks, and encourage everyone to keep up their fitness routines.

Hey all. So we started a TOPS group here at the office but the weight doesn't really seem to be going anywhere. I started great but then fell off the wagon over Easter. Doing Zumba twice a week and walking once a week. I try to do more but the job/kids thing is interfering with the life. I'm down 5 pounds but will never be "in shape" for Roo. Better shape maybe.
I have to ask, 12 pounds in 2 weeks? That's amazing but is it safe?
Gotta ask an exercise question. If I have limited time would I be better off dropping a Zumba to do some weight training or am I getting a better calorie burn from the Zumba?

I just think you're not getting enough physical activity. If you could get to the gym for 45 mins 3-5 days a week and do a quick weight training session and/or run.
12 pounds in 2 weeks isn't healthy. 2-4 pounds in 2 weeks is.
5 weeks until roo is plenty of time to lose a good amount of weight. Just gotta be consistent. Dieting will knock off the pounds just as much as exercising.
Look into www.leangains.com ...it is what i do with a busy schedule and i lost 10 lbs in 5 weeks.
