Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
How did it go this week people? I had to take Wednesday off to take care of some stiuff, but I finished out the week strong. I'm having a salad for lunch right now gonna finish with tilapia w salsa and pico! Good job everyone and keep up the good work!
Backpacking may be the best way to condition for what you're doing at Bonnaroo...because when backpacking you're walking all day and camping at night, just like at Roo.
Backpacking's an awesome way to get fit. For a high-intensity interval twist: load up with about 20% of your body weight and go do timed hill sprints...start with 30 seconds at a time with a 2-minute cooldown in between, and gradually increase the work interval and decrease the rest interval.
I had some stuff to do this morning so I had to get a rushed workout in this afternoon. Not to self do not rush workout. That was a bad idea. Don't work out angry. The worst part was i know better. I cut the cardio out today and will split it up and add it to the cardio for the rest of the week.
I need help figuring out how to best use my workout time. I get 45 mins Mon-Fri on my lunch breaks to go to the gym. Roughly 5-10 of that is roundtrip travel time including changing. So I get 35 mins and I feel like I need to concentrate on cardio but I don't want to neglect weights completely. Do you think twice a week is enough for weights? I don't really do legs at the moment and when I do arms all I do are bicep curls, tricep pulldown and lat pulldown. I can do things like squats, push ups, and planks at home although I rarely do What should I doooooo?

Alright here's some tips that I think will get you on the right track.
Compound Excercises Compound excercises are your friend. You can get twice as much done in half the amount of time. Bench Press, Squats, Deadlifts, Standing Presses, and any other free weight excercise that involves more than one body part. If you do these, you will see better results. Isolation excercises (machines, bicep curls, even abs) really aren't that useful for most people. Bodyweight excercises (like pullups, dips, and push ups) are also extremely useful, but are also pretty difficult to do properly. A common misconception most people have is that working out your arms, will result in the loss of arm fat. It doesn't work like that... so work your larg muscle groups and see results! (Do legs as much as possible!)
Super Sets
I can't say enough about super sets. Especially if you are interested in losing weight. After you complete one set, don't rest, and do another one. When trying to lose weight, cut out on the amount of time you take inbetween sets, and increase reps. This will also help you get in a full work out in a much smaller amount of time. It's okay to be tired when you start your next set. Just adjust the weight and rep range appropriately. You still want to make sure you can feel it in the muscle you're targeting in the last 3-5 reps. If you do this correctly, it should feel like cardio.
Lifting Weights An important part of burning fat is metabolic rate. Cardio is adjusted to pretty quickly by your body (especially the same form of cardio), and it's effectiveness can dwindle pretty quickly. Most woman fall into the trap of eating very little, and doing as much cardio as they can. Doing this absolutely crushes your metabolism and really hinders your ability to get rid of fat. Lifting weight puts your metabolism into hyperdrive. As long as you aren't power lifting or eating like a mad man, you're not going to get "huge" like girls worry about.
Diet There are alot of myths and such that go along with diet and weight loss. If you eat well and seem to not be gaining any weight, I'd try taking 1 cheat day a week and eating as many GOOD carbs as you can. Breads, potatos, pastas, and really try to limit your fat on cheat days. You'll realize that you have more energy, can work out harder, AND you'll burn fat quicker due to your increased metabolism. Finishing every day at a caloric deficit will result in your metabolism pretty much stopping. Make sure your good on your non-cheat days though! I recommend going low on carbs more so than fat on these days.
HIIT High intensity interval training. This form of cardio leads to wondeful results and really helps "trick" your body into not adjusting to the cardio you doing. A qquick Google search will yield you tons of different HIIT workouts to try.
I hope this helps Jenny! This is really great information for everyone to use though! Keep at it everyone! Body transformations are just science, and if you treat it as such, it becomes far less overwhelming.
Edit: Feel free to ask any questions you may have!
Blackdynamite can you explain super sets? And compound exercises? Where can I go on the net to get good info about these. I am really interested your last post here may have convinced me.
And how do I tag people here with the red names so they see I mentioned them?
I've lost 15 lbs as of last week! This will already be the lightest I've been at Roo. Hoping for at least another 5-10 lbs before I step foot on the farm.
I have logged into MyFitnessPal everyday since I started, hitting 100 straight days this past Saturday. I credit that app with helping me stick to eating healthier & making myself get up & do something active.

Super sets are very simple. If you were doing 2 excercises in a workout, just do them back to back with no rest inbetween. This allows the muscle group you work in the first excercise to recover while you're working the second muscle group. I do these every day and they really help me get in a great workout in a very small amount of time.
Compound Excercises are also very simple in concept. Any excercise that involves multiple muscles is a compound excercise. Bench Press, Squat, Deadlift, Pull ups, dips, and excercises of those nature, use so many parts of the body that you would never expect. You probably don't realize you're moving A LOT of weight with your back when you bench, but you are. You would probably never guess that when you squat, all 225 (or whatever weight your using) is being stabilized by your abs. Using compound excercises, many small muscle groups can be skimmed over when excercising, simply because they now play such a big part in all of your lifts.
If you're aiming for weight loss, I would take these ideas, implement a high amount of reps (15-30 reps), and decrease weight so that you can focus on using perfect form. Also, HIIT training is a great way to mix cardio in with weight lifting. If I was trying to shed weight right now, this is exactly how I'd go about it. Using these principals has lead to some wonderful gains, and I've seen them work on others for weight loss.

HELLLA AWESOME! Way to go Steph! Sounds like you've been doing great!
Still on track with my running training. Having the group really makes me stick to it better especially when it's going to be a long borrrrring run. It's nice to have people to talk to when you're on the road for two hours.
I'm determined to do more pullups. So I'm starting to try and add 5 sets of 5 a few days a week until I can get some better mastery. It's just so damned hard but feels so good!

I recently went on a mission to do master pull ups as well. I've found I can only do the first few of a set, and then wind up cheating to do the rest. This really effected me from improving. So now what I do, is do as many as I can with perfect form, and then only do the negative part of the exercise. I jump up a little to help me get to the top, and then SLOWLY let myself down. I also recommend doing lat pull downs on top of these if you really want to get that stretch and accelerate the process.

Yeah, same boat here. I've set a goal for myself, too. I've been wanting to get a Bonnaroo tattoo (I've got it designed and everything), and I'm not going to allow myself to get it until I drop about 40. 35 to go, though!
It has been a while since I have been in here, but like my GA meetings, I am doing great! Last week was my B-Day and I am down to 214, which is only 4 pounds off/short of my goal. Last month I did a 5k, well we walked it, but still, it was my first "race". It was the electric run and a lot of fun. Hope everyone is working hard. That is still my weakness, working out, but with just diet changes, I am losing weight and I feel great! I am still on track to lose another 14 lbs by Roo and be below 200lbs. FUNK YEAH!
I'd like to lose 10 lbs before Roo. So far so good with my daily lunch break workouts and a diet full of veggies and poached eggs! I wish the weather would get warmer so I could workout outside.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
As far as progress goes, this month I am still up 3 pounds, but I have lost 1.5% bodyfat. Found my max on the bench press yesterday, and it's pretty sad..On the upside, I don't own enough weight to find my max on squats and DL. 170+?? Picking up some more plates next week and am quite excited to see!
I started power walking about a week ago. At first my shins were hurting really badly but I seem to have gotten past that. I'm currently doing a little over 3 Miles, 4 Days a week. I will up the Days/Week and the distance as I can. I have been using the "Runkeeper" App for Iphone which keeps track of Distance, pace, time, route, calories burned etc. I find it very motivational. I am also eating less and cut way down on sweets. I plan on really hitting the Diet and exercise hard in May and continuing right up until Bonnaroo. Looking forward to some Spicy Pie Pizza as my reward. Good luck to you all with your healthy goals.

when I first started running I got crazy bad shin splints. there are lots of good stretches out there (toe raises on stairs, etc.), staying hydrated is key, and real shoes are a must- if you get serious about hardcore walking or even running (warning: it's addictive), I recommend getting fitted for the right shoes at a store geared towards runners. also, they are a little intense but compression socks can also help. good luck to you too!
Almost 20 lbs. down! By no means am I going to be an underwear model any time soon but it does feel like an accomplishment. Not sure how many more I'd need to lose before I feel comfortable walking around without a shirt on. And, yes - I know it shouldn't matter.

Well, the past two weeks have been an exercise bust ('cept for the couple Zumba classes I managed to get to, and my usual commute walking) due to busting my toe, then getting real sick, then being super freaked out about Boston, and trying to buy a house in the middle of it and having surprise guests from out of town. Man, do I feel terrible when I don't work out. Back on the horse today... KB training today, Zumba Weds, lifting Thurs, yoga Saturday. Hopefully my busted toe is up for it, but the rest of me feels like 10lbs of shizz in a 5lb bag!

I've been on the elliptical every day for the past two weeks and been trying to keep under 1200 calories and eating healthier. I am down to 135lbs, which is good but not where I want to be. Another 5lbs for my clothes to fit better, another 10lbs for me to be happy about my body
I logged into MFP for the first time in a month or more... maybe that's a sign? I also have the overwhelming urge to go to a local running store and finally get fitted for really good sneakers...

Sneakers for chasing NoD at MOEMS?
Yay for spring! This last month was tough with all the crap weather when you're itching to get outside. So I know you can all do it!

Chico... YOU'RE ONTO SOMETHING! In actuality, you'll never catch me in sneakers unless the situation calls for it. Barefoot Bonnie 4eva! (right wannaberoo'ing?)
