I used to be very obsessive with the scale and realized how it didn't really help me in the long run.
I'd have a great week, worked hard, and step on the scale to see that nothing moved! Sometimes it showed that I gained or didn't lose as much as I thought I should've. After that crushing blow I'd usually go and eat a cookie because 'Nothing I'm doing is working anyway!" It's silly. I paid more attention to the number instead of how I felt.
Don't let the scale control your life. HOW you feel is more important.

I don't even own a scale and rarely step on one. I know the damage that it can do to your mentality. This was a one-time "mistake" that I will not be making again.
My scale has been broken for several years. Unfortunately I have been to the doctor a lot lately, so I know all too well how much I weigh & how much it has been going up & down (mostly up). I am finding the fitbit to be very helpful. I see how many steps I've taken & make an effort to increase them.
That's why I love those sort of things. It's kind of fun to do compete with yourself. Over the years when I have done many pedometers and the WW activity tracker... Mornings where I haven't moved much, I would find myself running in place in the bathroom or taking short walks around campus in the afternoon in attempt to boost the number. GO NUMBER GO! The scale is a cruel mistress, especially as as mesomorph. That said, I also found it very helpful to weigh in each week, consider my diet and activity, and figure out why I gained or lost weight (or stagnated). It let me pinpoint what I needed to cut back (wheat-based carbs - bread, pasta, beer, etc.), and what indulgences were okay in moderation (chocolate, fruit, dairy, some oils). A ton of times I surprised myself... and not always for the better. Sometimes I'd be vigilant and still balloon up, or vice-versa. My weight fluctuates enough that I try to only pay attention to the larger trend, but it is encouraging to know how far you've come.
Re: Bonz's pedo...meter comment, I got a Fitbit some time ago, and could never get into it - which is weird, since I do a ton of walking here. Should be a no-brainer... bah.
Alarm went off at 5 this morning. I'm usually VERY enthusiastic about upper body workouts, but I laid my head back down for a second and everything was just in the perfect comfy position.
33 pounds to drop before Roo thou. Good try pillow, but I'm not being lazy today =)
I guess I'm still out of commission due to my hip injury I went to the gym yesterday (cardio only) because my hip had not hurt in several days... and I'm paying for it today.
I started physical therapy last Friday, and will have a total of 4 sessions. Really hoping it heals up quickly because I need to get to the gym and start getting this weight off!
On a different note, I'm looking for suggestions on new sneakers. Physical therapist said I don't want/need narrow shoes because my arch flattens out when I walk ??? I'm not really a runner so "running shoes" aren't necessary. Just looking for something comfy for the gym and less than $100.

New Balance are great if you're looking for a wider shoe. I have Flintstone feet and Nikes are too narrow for me. honestly if it's just for casual gym use you could even get a fairly cheap pair of Champion brand tennis shoes from Target, I've worn some and they are fine.

Second on this. New Balance last well, are comfy, cheap and available at most shoe stores. I got some a couple years ago at Academy for like $40.

Third.
For the past 10+ years, I've only bought either New Balance or Merrell shoes. I have elephant feet (size 14 or 15 depending on brand), but New Balance and Merrell are some of the few brands that actually stock up to sizes 14 and 15 without special orders.
Plus both brands are excellent shoes. Both are comfortable, and very durable. With both brands I usually get a few years out of them, before moving them down the line of Everyday shoes->work shoes->Bonnaroo shoes.
If you want to really make sure they fit right, there are New Balance stores that will watch you walk and pick out the best pair for you. I am sure that you won't get any great sales there, but you'll know that the show is right.

For some reason, moving into smaller size clothing is absolutely terrifying to me. I have lost roughly 50lbs since March, mostly through diet with a little weight training thrown in. Since winter is basically here already, I needed some warm layers and hit up the Old Navy fleece sale the other day and was shocked to see that I have went from a XXL to a L. In theory I should be doing some kind of happy dance, but I am incredibly uncomfortable wearing something that actually fits. My jeans are practically falling off me, but a smaller size just feels too constricting--which is probably all in my head-- so I try jeans on at the store and then just put them back. Anybody know how to make my brain catch up to my body on this one, because it's going to get pretty cold up here if I don't have anything to wear.

Congrats girlie!!! <3 Here are some ideas. Now that you know your size, just order an item or two online to get you going? You can't turn around at the checkout counter that way! Or start "smaller"? Get a pair of comfy pants for the house instead of jeans? Prove to yourself how good you look before you take bigger steps? Or there are jeans that are a more stretchy fabric (no- I am not talking about jeggings!). Those are my favorite- and they are more forgiving in both directions (both if they are a tad too tight or a tad too small). They're always so comfortable. Drag your husband out and make him make you buy what he likes on you? GET CLOTHES! Didn't your snap this morning say that it's 20 degrees? We don't a popsicle version of you!

Thank you for the suggestions bonz! I went to the mall with hubby yesterday and tried on more jeans, and he ended up getting me two pair from American Eagle. They are the stretch fabric, and I don't necessarily hate the way they look on me, so I'll call it a win! After being so heavy for so long I don't know that I will ever be comfortable with the way I look, but wearing clothes that are my size are definitely a decent start. I've went from an XXL on top, 18 on bottom to a L top and 12 bottom so far, so the numbers certainly say I have done something these past 8 months!
the idea of having photo evidence of how chubby i am freaks me out, but i finally caved and took a "before" picture today. i've been eating well and working out consistently for about a month and a half and it's driving me nuts not noticing any progress. my sister and i swapped photos after not seeing each other for the past month, and she says she can see a difference. just checking in to hold myself accountable.
I hate this constant battle. Being in school is actually helping rather than hurting like i expected. There is no time for snacking so even tho i am eating out a lot im still losing. Slowly but i will take it

Anyone have any suggestions for products similar to n.o. explode? It's messing with my sleep big time. Obviously I'm using it for non cardio exercises Thx

Is that a prelift mix?

This is why I stopped using them. I cant remember which one I was taking, but it was making me too jittery and the more I used it the more it was upsetting my stomach. My honest suggestion is dont use them. Focus on what you can eat or drink within 2 hours that will help give you that energy boost. As a runner there are a lot of foods, gels etc that are quick to digest and high in sugar with some caffeine. Still much more mild than those mixes and will give you a good 100 cal energy boost for the next hour.
