It was dang hilly. The last 1/4 mile was like a cruel joke. I couldnt believe the hill, straight fucking up.
Ugh, fuck that. Whoever planned that route should be kicked square in the groin.
I'm from about an hour and a half north of there and have a camp there. I can not even begin to imagine how much I would DIE walking let along running there.

Going back to the gym today. It's been about 6 weeks since I've gone (yikes). I just finished PT on my hip flexor injury, so I'm back to the drawing board with a routine.
My plan is to do 20 minutes of cardio and 20-30 minutes of strength training. Does anyone have suggestions/ideas on core strengthening exercises I can start off with? My physical therapist said no squats or lunges until my hip flexor is 100% better. But she said I could use a leg press machine and also encouraged me to use the hip abductor machine.
JHOinTN The leg press is a pretty good exercise for quads/glutes, and some ham work as well. but because it is a machine your core will not be utilized for stabilization (compared to free weight squats/lunges).
you may want to check with your PT first, but look into kettle bell swings. It is a great exercise for both strength and cardio. It isn't a pure strength type workout like lifting, but you will use your entire core and posterior chain for stabilization during the swing, glutes and hams for the swing itself, and quads/calves for stabilizing your base on the floor. Start with a lighter weight (10lbs max to start, if you haven't done them before.) and try to do 20-25 swings in a "set." and then do as many sets as you feel comfortable doing. It is a great full body exercise that I usually do as a cool down after a squat or deadlift day, but I always feel some DOMS in my abs the next day after doing some swings.
I thought it was weird she recommended a leg press machine, too. The issue, I think, is that I don't use my glutes or my TFL very much; so my hip flexor picked up the slack. I'm supposed to be working on strengthening those muscles/retraining my body on how to use them correctly. Maybe it will be easier to do that using the leg press at first? That if I tried to do squats and lunges again at this point, I would still be using my hip flexor.

The tendency for people with office jobs to sit all day means the hip flexors get really tight, which causes the antagonist muscles (hip extensors: glutes and hams) to be inhibited. This inhibition causes the lower back to pick up the slack. The tightness of the hip flexors and the inhibition of their antagonists mean they hip flexors are ripe for injury (as you have seen). So after your hip flexors heal, you should be stretching and strengthening them in order to help your glutes and hams activate/get stronger (kinda counterintuitive). When you do the leg press, really concentrate on activating and isolating the glutes and hams. Because fewer muscles are used than say, squats, this is easier to do. And if you are a desk jockey, do hip flexor stretches throughout the day (if it doesn't aggravate your injury). Just know the leg press won't use your core as much as free weights, so if you wanted to work on core strength you should supplement with something else that targets the core more directly.
after seeing a picture of wedding from a wedding last night, i just gave in and re-joined the gym. working out at home isn't cutting it anymore, so here's goes nothing.

So, haven't been in here in a while but I've lost 15 lbs. since September and I'm hoping that actually getting back to the gym will ramp up the weight loss. It's all basically been drinking tons and tons of water and not eating junk (and totally NOT exercising).
Trying to lose about 40 more by my birthday which evens out to just under 3 lbs a week so...I think I can, I think I can!

Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
I should tattoo this on my hand. I have been on an eating and drinking free for all lately and the weight just creeping up and up.
I've been up a couple pounds this week, and I'm convinced that it's because of all the sugar I've had. Just this week, I made cashew brittle and chocolate covered pretzels, and Josh made homemade crunch n munch, for my work white elephant gift exchange thing. That cashew brittle is like crack. As soon as I eat one little piece I want to eat ten more. I think once the holidays are over I'm going to have to take a baking/candy making hiatus.
I was going to start a 200 day challenge to see how much weight i could drop before Roo and with work and the holidays i have procrastinated quite a bit. So now its going to be more of a 181 day challenge. Why not 182? I told you already, I work.
bonzai and NothingButFlowers, the sweet tooth has a cure! I've been making myself little raw chocolates that are so effing delicious they make me wonder why I ever ate manufactured chocolate in the first place! Try this:
2 parts coconut oil 2 parts organic, natural peanut butter (I like to use crunchy) 2 parts cocoa powder 1 part natural honey (or maple syrup if you're gross and/or Canadian)
Stir that ish up and throw it in the fridge. Then chop it up and be addicted!

You think I could use almond butter instead of peanut butter? It's the same consistency right? I want to try these!!

Almond butter doesn't seem to firm up as well but maybe if you freeze overnight?
You all need to get on top of bliss balls (I think these are more of an Aussie / NZ thing?) They're Delicious AND nutritious little truffles, loaded with enough protein that I never want to gorge on them, but without that fake protein bar taste. These are usually made with some variation of dried fruit, nuts, and raw cacao, though there are many variations. They've been really helpful in satisfying my sweet tooth without resorting straight to processed sugar and fats.
Lots of great recipes to be found here:
(BTW, I'm thinking of doing a juice fast sometime next week. Anyone ever done this before? How did it go?)
Thanks, Kayla! I actually don't have a sweet tooth though. Far from it. I sometimes go weeks without a sweet- no problem! My issue is cheese.. and pizza... and nachos...

My problem too. I could live the rest of my life without sweets. But not carbs and cheese! I told someone this week that I would marry spaghetti.

Do you think I could sub something for the coconut oil? My husband is allergic.

I have come to the realization that I am 25 lbs heavier than when I got married 6 years ago and it is not ok with me. I also got a breast reduction this year and I feel like now I have smaller boobies, the rest of my body needs to match! Plus I want to feel and look good at Bonnaroo!
I've been working on it for 2 weeks and have lost 3 lbs so I am encouraged and I am trying hard. I am having cheat days, like when the food truck comes to my office, but overall, I am eating well, eating less, eating more fruit, exercising, avoiding bread, and sweets. I've even cut down on alcohol which is huge for me. I cannot give up cheese though. I love it way too much.
My goal for now is 130 lbs (12 lbs to go). Once I get there, I may try for 125, but I'm not sure if that is realistic for me.

Sounds like you are off to a really great start and you'll be able to hit that goal without a problem! Just stay consistent!

Thanks! I'm going to try hard! We do have family coming for a week at Christmas, so we will probably eat out more than usual, but I am going to make a HUGE effort to be more in control during those times. My big weakness (along with wine) is eating out, so I need to make better choices..... I don't eat salads, especially not at restaurants when there are much better things to eat!
It's probably not the best time of the year to start this, but I am motivated now, so I'm going for it.

Not sure. Other oils that sort of gum up might work but I haven't tried any. Maybe a tiny bit of olive oil in place of coconut oil just to make it creamy then refrigerate? I really don't know though, sorry :/
going back to the gym became worth it when someone walked past me, dropped their mcdonald's cup on the back of my treadmill and it flew into the locker room!

Congrats on your results so far; whatever the measure, if you eat healthy that's already a big win.
Oh, and cheese doesn't count. It's kind of a religious thing:
Cheese is the food analogy of the resurrection. Milk died for our sins and came back (an allegorical) three days later as cheese.
It would be an insult to the effort not to eat it.
