Zakk Wylde. I hate his guts. He totally destroyed every song he touched when he played with Ozzy. It was terrible. He does pinch harmonics like he'll die if he doesn't, and is a terrible musician. BLS bah, Ozzy's Black Rain blah.
I can't even complain about any other band I've ever seen just because Zakk Wylde is that terrible.
I've seen Zakk Wylde 4 times.
Fell asleep during two of those sets.
He's pretty bad. Well, not so much bad, just....so incredibly boring. Yes, Zakk. I get it. You like pinch harmonics. Yes, Zakk. I get it. You can play the guitar with your mouth. Yes, Zakk. I get it. You like to drink beer. Yes, Zakk. I get it. You like to play 8 minute solos in the middle of a 4 minute song. You don't have to do all of those things during every single set. You especially dont have to do those things multiple times per set. Multiple times per song even. Jesus. If you want to entertain your audience, come up with some damn stage presence or mix up the setlist or something. Throw in a Book of Shadows song. Christ.

Throw Rag opening for Queens of the Stone Age in '05. Their washboard player more or less beat off the entire set, tore out pubes threw them into the crowd, etc, etc. I died a little inside. Especially since the original opening band was supposed to be Eagles of Death Metal but they had to pull out at the last second.

I'm just wondering for anyone saying RHCP are a bad live band....when was the last time you saw them?
They used to be terrible, I agree. Kiedis has really improved and um, Frusciante and Flea are just incredible live (especially Frusciante, who tears shit up.)

definitely deftones. Ive always loved them, especially white pony. But I havent seen one performance when Chino pulled off some really good vocals like on the album. But I still had fun, and would see them again.

I saw Throw Rag on the same tour and they fuckin ripped it up. Their washboard player is an acid-freak. If he had gone a little crazier at the show I saw, it probably would have gone into the too weird to be good category, but instead he was that perfect level of weird that makes the show just that much better.
Anyway, worst live bands I've seen? Oh man, there's a few
Smashing Pumpkins - after Corgan broke the band up. They were just finnishing off their commitments and none of them wanted to be there. Green Day - Good show in '99, REALLY bad show in 2005 My Chemical Romance - Opened for Green Day in '05 AFI - I was 16 and went with like 4 girls, that was my sole reason for going Death Cab For Cutie - Boooooooring before Neil Young Anti-Flag - They try way to hard
and this one usually stirs up some debate
"The Who" - The current version of "The Who" (they aren't the Who) is an embarrasment. You can tell that Pete Townshend is thinking "Ok, this is when I do the windmill" and shit like that. They're just going through the motions and charging 200 bucks a head to watch it. The bass and drums are pretty much non-existant. They need to stop calling themseleves The Who. The Who died with Moon.l

He was dead on at the show I saw at City Hall in Nashville in 07ish. He was even nailing the female vocal part of knife prty... They tore it up that night. Easily the hottest, most packed show I've been to.

well it has been awhile since Ive seen them, so hopefully he's gotten better.

When I saw Deftones, it was with a free ticket to a shitty "festival" (they called it a festival, but it was just an all day arena show). I was blown away. Chino's voice was incredible and the band was so fucking tight. I'd see them again in a heartbeat.
when i saw the arctic monkeys two years back, be your own pet opened and they were terrible. no one in the crowd got into their set, and it made them angry to the point where they found it necessary to insult us.
the kanye show last year was just cheesy, some of his rapping was good, but the whole show part to it just sucked.
i also didnt like mars volta when they opened for the chili peppers, everything sounded discombobulated. i liked their albums a few years back but that spot just made everything sour for me

Hoobastank is another awful band I've seen live. I know it's no surprise seeing as how they are bad on their albums as well, but when a band's best song of the night is a "Girls just wanna have fun" cover, you know it's a bad night.

Was it the Family Values one perchance? With Korn? $10 tickets, Korn and Deftones headlining. Mudfights at Starwood. It was a good day.

yeah, i saw RHCP at Voodoo in 2006 and they were amazing.. totally on. They had just released Stadium Arcadium, and it was one of the best shows I've ever seen.. I guess they may not be consistent then?
But by far the worst band I've ever seen was The Smashing Pumpkins. Totally boring, no stage presence... just really lame.

I saw RHCP a few years ago when they toured with The Mars Volta. I really wasn't impressed with TMV that night either, but I've seen them 5 other times and every other time was amazing. RHCP just didn't do it for me.
I've seen a bunch of bands that I found really lacking live. You know, that feeling you get where you start looking around, twiddling your thumbs, looking at your feet, thinking you'd rather be somewhere else, waiting for the set to end. The following come to mind: Liars and Interpol @ aggainis arena in boston in 07... animal collective @ APW this past summer... built to spill, ryan adams, and sonic youth all summer 06..... dropkick murphys tweeter center 06...
I actually like the music that those bands put out, but the live performances that I saw weren't at all exciting or interesting.
On the other hand, in the definite "bad" category, two shows out of hundreds definitely come to mind: the Shins at lolla '06 and franz ferdinand at roo '07. The Shins were messing around on stage for like the first 15 minutes and couldn't even get their equipment working. Then when they finally got going they flat out sucked. I was with a group of 5 or 6 people and we all looked at each other, mouths open, and just started walking away. So disappointing too because I love their albums and I've heard they can put on a great live act. Franz Ferdinand was a similar situation--I was waiting for them to get going but they never did. Had to leave after a few songs.
This made me laugh. I actually went to high school with Danny, the lead singer of this band and have seen him live with every band he's been in and I've always thought he needed to work on his live show.

that's if you can ever see them again chi is still in a coma as far as i know. i also have to say the dozen times i saw the deftones they were always awesome. chino was always on and was even good at the cover songs i've seen them play like weezer's say it ain't so and the gorillaz clint eastwood

Maroon 5. I saw them in Memphis right after they released Songs About Jane. Worst live show I have EVER seen. It reminded me of the high school bands that played in the community center in my hometown.
The opening act for NIN. I don't remember their name. I tried to have their whole performance surgically removed from my brain, but all they could get out was the name of the band. NOISE METAL is what they played. Whatever the quack that is. The NIN crowd booed them off the stage. I like it when a large goth audience works together towards a single goal.
When I saw them in Duluth it was with Deerhunter? It wasn't them was it? They did a pretty good job, good show all in all, but just wrong atmosphere for them; people hated it in the audience.
Then again, when I saw NIN in 05 with Death From Above 1979, people hated that, too. So you can't really go by what they are digging.

i miss death from above 1979, at least jfk still entertains me with mstrkrft. i think the worst band i saw open for nin was the dresden dolls

Health. They were so quacking bad. But they just made Trent and the boys look that much better.
