I found the Best Live Bands thread to be quite interesting and wanted switch it up a little. How about getting some thoughts on the worst live bands you've seen? Not necessarily a top (or bottom) 5 list, because I'm having a hard time coming up with 5 myself. Anyway, here's mine...
1. Whitesnake - they sound like a high school garage band (in the garage no less) 2. Hank Williams Jr. - Awful -- Of course I happened to catch him twice when he had apparently been on the bottle for several days straight. 3. Counting Crows - love their recordings, just did not enjoy them live.. 4. Beastie Boys - although I haven't seen them live since '86. But I remember Murphy's Law and Fishbone blowing the Beasties away. I'm hoping for a big rebound at '09 Roo.
I haven't seen any of the following live, but I've heard that they regularly or have a tendency to really suck in concert.
1. My Chemical Romance 2. STP (hit or miss) 2. Fall Out Boy

Worse bands ive seen live are
Hole STP Smashing Pumpkins (free show in MLPS, so I can't complain) Mindless Self Indulgence Slayer's last tour with Manson (sounded like hell) Kanye at Roo Anti-Flag DMX (had a bad cold)
jhunt, I know what you mean about STP. A good friend of mine saw them in Colombus right before they broke up and said the energy was wild. I saw them play one show since they re-united and Scott has just lost it.
Also, forgot to mention Limp Bizkit at Summer Sanitarium 2003. The crowd thought the whole thing was ridiculous, so at least we got a kick out of all those washed up characters rockn out up there lol.

1. Danzig- Saw him opening for Ozzy. Just terrible. Mumbled the entire show. This was when "Mother" was being played on radio and he got about 1/3 of the way through the song before anyone realized what it was, he was so unintelligible. 2. Chris LeDoux- Saw him opening for Charlie Daniels. Bad hat country at its worst. 3. Slaughter- Opening for Kiss. Just horrible. 4. LA Guns- I didn't know they had replaced their lead singer in an attempt to become "grunge." I left after four songs. 5. Dangerous Toys- Opening for Alice Cooper and Judas Priest- This is my funniest concert experience ever. The singer was in full arena rock mode but we just wanted him to play his one hit and go away. He screams out to the audience "We're going to do some new songs now. Can we do some new songs?!" 20,000 people yelled "NO!" in unison. Poor guy looked like we'd shot him... 6. Candlebox- Opening for Rush. Just horrible. 7. Jack Johnson- At Roo. Not bad, just boring. Every song sounds exactly the same.
Zugg Island (please, look them up if you haven't... first concert I ever saw, I walked in during the most horrible rendition of Sabbath's "War Pigs" one could ever hear.
Perry Farrel's new band... god, that was bad. Sounded like My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, but worse. They couldn't even make "Pigs In Zen" an entertaining number.
Eve 6. Nuff said.
Powerman 5000. See above.
3 of those bands were at a little one day festival here in Columbia in 03, I think.
Well the worst live show I ever saw was Tom Petty, back in the early 90's. He was drunk, and was not even hardly playing his guitar, slurred words, stumbling. However he redeemed himself Bonnaroo 2006.
They had a Kanye West moment in Charotte just this past summer. after the opening band left the stage, it was another 2 hours before STP got on, and Scott was totally wasted. I mean, just completely gone. The band wasn't that bad, but they were visibly pissed off about what they were being put through. People were booing them and over half the had crowd left by the time they started playing. I think by the end of it they were probably playing to about a third of the original crowd. I think they played for maybe 45 minutes, if that.
alot of my friends cite both RHCP and weezer as two of the worst touring acts around. the worst i've seen was a band called dax riggs, they opened up for QOTSA in 07.

my worst was puddle of mudd. absolutely terrible.
I wanted to see Smile Empty Soul(nothin special but i used to like them), they were supposed to play 2nd(on a 3 band ticket) after the opening band played the lead singer says get ready for Puddle of Mudd. So I am already disappointed I wasnt seeing Smile Empty Soul. Then Puddle of Mudd's lead singer came on to stage hammered out of his mind, slurring words, forgetting the words to his songs, etc, it was horrible. The drummer walked off stage after about the 3rd song, the rest of the band followedf to allow the lead singer come up with the song "Toledo is Neato" in which he basically went into a rant about the crowd. By this team the crowd had begun launching anything they could find at him. He ended up getting arrested that night, and it turned out Smile Empty Soul left the tour that day because of him.
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver
The Sisters of Mercy. I've always wanted to see them, and my expectations were high. Instead, there was a wall of stage fog (I cant's really describe just how much fog was in this club), some lights in the background where the drummer should be (there wasn't a drummer - all sampled), and they only played the songs i usually skip. We stuck it through, as it was mercifully short, and immediately rushed back to the beer bar we hit before the show.
In the past:
Butthole Surfers - so many people on stage, so little talent.
Trans Siberian Orchestra - Christmas, 1985 style, in 2008. Not my thing...
KISS - we left early. what a phoned in mess. im sure they were shocking and interesting in 1973, but i felt bad for them.
Poison - usually a good show, but the most recent performance had far too much production and Mr. Rock of Love was a little too full of himself.
Linkin Park - it was part of a cheap day-long amphitheater festival i attended to see the superb Placebo. i am not a fan, and seeing them live did not win me over. Left early...
Meat Beat Manifesto - had some high hopes for some funky beats, but it was kind of a limp performance and a weak crowd. i enjoyed all the old school ebm/industrial vidoes they played before the show more than the show itself...
The Police (at roo) - zzzzzzzzzzz and I was hammered
Dave Matthews - maybe it was a good show? I don't know. all the loud, stumbling, drunk fans were so loud and rowdy, I literally could not hear any slow or acoustic songs he played.
Powerman 5000 - I second this. The singer is a huge doucebag - he had someone kicked out of the show for badmouthing him. and they were the opener!

The opening act for NIN. I don't remember their name. I tried to have their whole performance surgically removed from my brain, but all they could get out was the name of the band. NOISE METAL is what they played. Whatever the quack that is. The NIN crowd booed them off the stage. I like it when a large goth audience works together towards a single goal.
At Sasquatch 2006 I had the great misfortune of seeing "and you will know us by the trail of dead"....perhaps the name should have tipped me off! It was HORRIBLE!!! Anyhoo then TVOTR, Bauhaus, and NIN came on after that and completely blew my mind!
Please, see a group before writing them off as bad.
I don't care if there fan base is comprised of 14 year old girls with black journals, they put on one hell of a show.
I agree with this..I went to the Muse/My Chemical Romance show in 2007 Charlotte....and was surprised by the show..Muse Kicked A$$..but MCR held their own and had the 14 yr olds going crazy.
Zakk Wylde. I hate his guts. He totally destroyed every song he touched when he played with Ozzy. It was terrible. He does pinch harmonics like he'll die if he doesn't, and is a terrible musician. BLS bah, Ozzy's Black Rain blah.
I can't even complain about any other band I've ever seen just because Zakk Wylde is that terrible.
Edie Brickell & New Bohemians - Niagra University 1990. I do not believe that she moved the entire time that she was on stage. Boring.
Butthole Surfers - Lollapalooza 91 in Toronto. Gibby spent the entire set playing with effects and turning knobs.
Bob Dylan - Saratoga Music Festival, August 08. I had seen and fallen asleep during his Bonnaroo set but he had redeemed himself with an awesome club set at The Chance in Poughkeepsie a few weeks later. The Saratoga Music Festival was the first time that my girlfriend had seen him and she was a huge fan. We left during Like A Rolling Stone and she didn't even realize that was what he was playing. The show broke her heart.
Heart in 1981. They headlined a stadium show with Blue Oyster Cult and Cheap Trick. Heart played about 4-5 ballads in a row from an album that they were recording. It killed the the energy if the show, and that album was never released.
