53.My son is 19 and we are volunteering. Somebody said that "Hippy" died at the end of summer of love in '67,I don't know I guess my hippy died ,or went into hibernation for 25 years. I think he's back.
53 and a 19y.o. son, but we're not volunteering. 3rd Roo for both of us. Hippy never went completely dormant. Looking in from the outside, some would say I'm livin' the dream; house in the woods next to the National Forest, turkey, deer and bear in the yard, floating 2 nice rivers each 10 min. from my house, picking edible wild mushrooms, fresh blackberries from the yard baked into pies, fish from the spring-fed ponds. Kinda like Michael Caine's character in "Children of Men."

OMG I loved that movie and Michael Caine's character!!
Yeah the hippie never left for me. All my friends think I am a little out there (and I'm not even a stoner!). I have taken my daughter to concerts and festivals since she was a toddler and this will be my 4th Roo with her, she is 17. She has probably seen more concerts than most adults I know.

I'm 38 and everyone is shocked when they hear my age, even bouncers at bars are like no way are you that old. I have a young face and having a younger husband helps keep it so Ha! I like the Indiana Jones quote -- and all that mileage means we are better experienced...wink wink

Ok so Im 44, bald, no tats or piercings and everyone at Roo looked at me like I was 5-0. Not that cool or fun. I took my two teenage sons last year and they went off and had a blast. I had fun too once I got my corn. It was still tough walking around solo, I felt a bit like a goof.
I ended up seeing some great shows and meeting some really cool people. This year I am going solo and working the radio tent. WOO-hoo. Listen to Radio Bonnaroo while you are in camp!

Me too. I'm pretty "straight" looking. Day one no one would approach me. I'm tellin' ya, it's all in the clothes. Day two I put on cargo shorts and my tie dye, I had all the corn I needed and lots of new friends.

Same here. I think I was dressed too formally the first day, but then I ditched the top hat and monocle, switched to my tie-dyed cummerbund and loosened up the bow tie a bit. After that, people were much less standoffish.

Sounds a bit like me this year so i am a little nervous. I'm a young-looking 39 and i am taking my teenage son and one of his friends. I am expecting they will want to be on their own a lot and all of my "grown-up" friends have bailed this year. This will be my 2nd roo and i had a blast last year but i was with a friend. I don't want to be walking around solo...feeling like a goof! I would love to meet some of the super cool people on this thread. Any chance there will be a meet-and-greet?
Hey 39 here, going to my 4th roo.... I started going to shows when my Hippie Father took me to my 1st Dead show at age 14 along with 14 of my friends.. definitly a life changing experience! Now we do Roo and I always bring extra coffee and food b/c every year there seems to be a 20 something camped next to us with little money, a loaf of bread and a jar of peanut butter.... gotta help those youngins! Followed the Dead for a year, living out of my car, selling meat on a stick on Shakedown street... now those are good memories! Having grown up on a commune I would say my inner hippie still lives! I cannot wait to meet new friends at Roo this year.. every year just seems to get better!
I'm 43, last year was my first 'roo. I had wanted to go for years but thought I might party myself to death! Not the case , had a great time with old and new friends both younger and older. Realized that Bonnaroo is more about the music than the party. I came home feeling better physically and mentally than I had in years. Can't wait for next week! I will be with a group of about 15, average age around 35.

I'm 37 and I can not see a reason why I would stop going to Bonnaroo. I've been to all but 2008, and regret NOT going dearly. I think being older makes the experience even better. Having money to rent an RV and not having to worry about a thing is where its at. I have a group of 9 going this time around, all over the age of 30. We don't have to worry about someone over-doing it, someone getting lost, or anything that a less experienced hack might do. Like a fine wine, this gets better with age...
Can I get a f'n hell yeah for the Lunar stage? Sharam? Crystal Method?Kaskade? Timo Maas? Superfly just hit it outta tha' park for me....just too bad some didn't know sooner. so happy.
39 and still kickin' it with the kids. Did Bonnaroo in 06' and All Good a couple times. Checking out 4 festivals this year. I've been going to concerts since I was 13...love live music. Also love partying and camping, so Bonnaroo is like Disney world for me. I grew up a classic rock radio guy, but into all types of music these days, especially like the newer "Jam" and Indi rock bands. I can live without seeing Springsteen, but really looking forward to the rest of the line up. Party on!

Summer Jam at Watkins Glen in '73 BIG fun...
I went to that show. Some fest eh. I had been to others before that one though. WS69, Altamont (guess that was one day, it just seemed like a whole weekend), Both the Denver and Atlanta Pop festivals which were before WS. cr****
Be 48 this year (2nd ROO)> Last year brought my 16-year old daughter but the heat wiped her so I missed a lot of late night. This year going solo to enjoy late nights with FLIPS and Deadmau5. She doesn't like it when I tease her about not being able to keep up with the old man
I'm 35 and this will be my 3rd Bonnaroo (took last year off to have a baby). Unlike others, I'm 35 and I look 35 - ain't gonna pass for 26 any time soon. ;D
I hate to say it, but like someone else said it's all about what you wear. If you look like a fuddy-duddy, be you 21 or 61 you will be treated as such. If you look chill, people will gravitate to you. My 9-5 requires me to look relatively conservative and corporate, so I am not sporting visible tattoos and piercings and such and such. However when I go to Bonnaroo I wear relaxed clothing, flowered sundresses and straw hats and beaded jewelry.
My first year, Thursday night going into Centeroo for the first time I felt OOOLLLLLD and I was 32. I was surrounded by what seemed to be a busload of kids from Greek Row at a state university and I started wondering if someone like me could have a good time at this place.
Um yeah, it was fabulous and my second year was even better. I know '10 will also be fantastic. Once I got past the gates, I saw that there was such a variety of people - ages, interests, lifestyles. It's all about seeing the whole picture instead of focusing on that which is different. Looking forward to seeing all of you this June!
