If they were to get Neil, than it looks even more like they're copying Bonnaroo. The Dead and Neil Young played in 2003, Neil and the Dead for 2009 at Roth, for their second festival. I'm not saying it's good or bad it's just kind of interesting that they're on very similar paths.
Does that mean in 4 more years they will have Kanye?
Haha, I think after bonnaroo last year, a lot of festivals will take caution before booking Kanye even if he starts adopting babies and spending half the year in some BFE part of the world curing diseases and cleaning the drinking water.
well if they are copying, it's a smart move on their part. lots of people miss "the old roo" when it was mostly jam bands. roth's first year wasn't like that though. maybe they are going in reverse of roo. they will become more jam band oriented as time goes on instead of less.

crowd size would be an issue because why would you put out a lineup that could draw twice the amount of your intended audience size? i understand theyll only sell so many tickets, so why are they gonna spend money on huge names when they CANT bring more people in?
as far as bragging rights, thats just aggravating. i want to go to rothbury extremely bad, but its aggravating when everyone brings up the fest vs fest thing. Theres just a lot of people who love Rothbury and seemingly loathe bonnaroo, which is fine and dandy until they come around telling me how terrible of a time im going to have at bonnaroo and that i should go to rothbury. I have no interest in going to Coachella or Lolla but i dont go to their boards/facebook sites going, OH THIS FESTIVAL SUCKS EVERYONE SHOULD GO TO THIS ONE INSTEAD. fuck bragging about going to the "best festival of the year" and trying to discredit everyone who wasnt there's good time.

yeah im sorry that wasnt directed at you at all. just venting. if you ever check the facebook for Bonnaroo there are just a lot of people who feel the need to boast and brag about Rothbury on there, and thats who i was talking about. there are plenty of places to talk about the festival you love, why go to another festivals area and do it? blah!

IF Roth added both Neil and Phish, then Rothbury would have officially shat all over the farm and their lousy attempt at additions. (What can I say... mah headiez are gettin outta control, so I figured a Roo dis was needed to get me back on track )
Not that it's a competition or anything, but I would immediately look into switching from Roo to Roth if both these rumors held up. I don't think Phish will be added though... just heresay.
With just a Neil Young add, it would still make a pretty large statement of where they want to be looked at in regards to US festivals. It would be huge, methinks. I'm not sure if it would necessarily make Roth more appealing than Roo or not, as I personally think that Phish is a bigger name to have at your festival than Neil this particular year.

ok im over this roth bashing here it is layed out
lineup roo- phish*2 bruce beastie rev al elvis mgmt moe ==> pretty solid headliners, weak undercard, unless you like indie
roth- DEAD sci sts 9*2 (live and PA) bisco lotus shpongle black crowes jbt chromeo future rock lipp service mstrkrft etc ===> 1 headliner, undercard of the century, lots of jam/electronic
however roth has not released adds yet...
price
right ab the same
location
roo- manchester tenn---highs into the 80s, 90s more likely
roth- rothbury michigan, next to a massive lake----highs in the 70s, but at night gets down to low 50s
venue
roo- the farm-- pretty legit
roth- the ranch, sherwood forest...here you must take my word...it is the single coolest thing i have seen. period. it must have been at least 500,000 dollars in lighting equip in a forest that was roughly 1-2 acres, if someone would like to help with details, much appreciated
crowd
roo--this year, i would imagine 80000-100000
roth- this year, 40000-50000 (for all you math majors, that means half as many people to rub elbows with and jockey over for distance from the stage)
I heard Roth and Roo are in a bidding war for Zeppelin. There is no reason to start an account just to stir up nuts on this board whoever you are by the way.
BTW an undercard that features
David Byrne Al Green Galactic Rodrigo y Gabriella Ben Harper moe Merle Haggard etc..., can hardly be called weak.

"There is an ancient celtic axiom that says 'Good people drink good beer.' which is true, then as now. Just look around you in any public bar-room, and you will quickly see: Bad people drink bad beer. Think about it."
IHEARTHATERS Weak undercard for Roo? thats just a stupid statement! and yes alot of people like Indie if thats how you want to classify it. Not everyone wants to see Bonnaroo 1, 2 and 3 played over again and again
Roth: undercard of the century? Umm not at all
And stop bringing up this weather Bull-Sh*T! Any place can have great weather or horrible weather. Rothbury happened 1 year and the weather was perfect however it was extremly lucky. It can be humid and hot as hell there as well. There were severe thunderstorms and flooding the day before the gates opened last year!

i grew up listening to motown and elvis costello, thats what my parents listened to and i thank them for that..however, for all you people that have been puttin down bob dylan, im the big bad pot calling out the black kettle..both al and elvis were at jazzfest last year both were not as good as they were in their primes, so enough hatin on bob.
sorry to call the undercard weak, its not weak...but ive seen better this year IMHO
as for the weather...i did not mention rain/shine, i said strictly temps...its common sense that somewhere 600 miles further north and next to a gigantic body of water will be cooler than somewhere in southeast us, so no i will mention "this weather Bull-Sh*T" as you so kindly put it. and btw it did rain on sunday night so when we left monday morning it was a nightmare, but after the greatest 4 days of my life, the rain just didnt bother me.......i would love if it rained at roth, that means more time in the forest
p.s. my cousins live in mufreesboro, i was not tryin to put down roo, just got sick of all the rothbashing...for us who went last year we know what we saw. all ive done since july 7 2008 is tell everyone i know about it i hope to see yall there

questions?
I know I'm just feeding into what you want (an argument) but you're post is idiotic and prone to hyperbole.
First off, undercard of the century, are you kidding? Yea it's great if you like jambands that tour constantly, are playing at almost every other jam festival this summer, and have already played Bonnaroo multiple times. However for the rest of us who want something new at the festival and not just a rehash of Bonnaroo 2003 (now with less Neil Young!) but in the comforts of Sherwood Forest, that's great. Once again I'm not arguing that Rothbury isn't a great festival if you're into jam bands and cooler (not a foregone conclusion, if you live by the great lakes you know this) weather.
Also the indie that Bonnaroo does have is excellent. Grizzly Bear, Bon Iver, Animal Collective, and Band of Horses have great songs, play amazing live, and are some of the most respected artists in current "indie"rock music. Not to mention other acts like Yeah Yeah Yeahs and TV on the Radio who are not signed to an independent label (indie's true definition, it's not just tight jeans and nike sbs) who have either had the best album of the year and play great live, TV on the Radio, or have one of the best albums of this year, Karen O and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
So before you continue to spout your highly biased (did you really need to create an account here to just to get into an argument and then disappear) why don't you expand your music tastes and realize that there is not only one festival in the country that can be considered the best.
