maybe 20 or 30 years ago.....but having seen dylan twice in the last 3 years I can honestly say his shows are nothing to get excited about. It's always great seeing a legend and I would go see him again probably too....but he's not amazing to watch. He stands still behind his keyboard and barely is able to get out his lyrics.
The dead are great as well.....just awesome and i'm jealous I won't be seeing them, but If I had to choose all over again between Phish (2 nights) & Bruce or Dead & Dylan......i'd have to choose phish and bruce. I'm not even a huge Bruce fan either......just would rather see their shows
Even back in '78, going to a Dylan show was like playing Russian roulette. It always cracks me up when people attribute the hit or miss nature of his shows to age. He's always been as capable of squeezing out turds live as he is diamonds.
roo needs to take a CUE from rothbury and get with the times with the ELECTRONICA/DJS.
yea, this is the one area that rothbury did kill roo in. the electronic acts are so much better then what we have at roo this year. hopefully we get some good ones in additions.

true but your always going to have unfortunate conflicts..which is why i love smaller fests...like allgood. no overlaps
this is all so subjective...its all about what you WANT from your festival experience. i urge people to try more than the big major ones, to see what else is out there...cuz there is so muhc awesomeness
Yea...I really wanted to check out Rothbury this year simply because of the atmosphere but the lineup is just way too jam-heavy for my tastes. I'm gonna try out the much cheaper and closer Wakarusa instead.
I really think Bonnaroo is king of the mega-fests this year though, no contest. Coachella and Roth have both fallen short for me. Lolla doesn't seem too promising either.
I don't know i think coachella and roo are tied. I'd go to both if I could.
personally, im more impressed with roo's offerings.
however, i think the rothbury lineup is solid - if I was local, it would be a no brainer. but it doesnt have that "destination festival" feel to it that roo exudes...
I like the line up - with the exception of Dylan - there are alot of acts that I have seen before and would love to see again. If we lived close - we would go - but Bonnaroo is closer and I LOVE the 'roo line up this year Phish is even growing on me some - LOL

There's a lot of quality bands on the Roth lineup but put that next to Roo (or Coachella) and it's not really a contest in terms of diversity or depth for the price. After 2008 it's apparent that Roo really stepped up their game while Roth kinda stayed in the same place.

To me it's about been there, done that. We've already had almost all of those acts, except for Nas and Flogging Molly. Some of you want to see String Cheese and the Disco Biscuits every time, and some of us don't. I think that's what it comes down to.
If you want diversity, several new bands every year, and a new lineup, that's what Bonnaroo is doing. If you're cool with seeing some of the same bands, probably your favorite bands, over and over and you're a big jam fan, then you'll probably love Rothbury, and I could see why.
I gotta say even tho Biscuits arent gonna be at Roo I dont mind, at first I was dissapointed when I saw they were on Roth but then I realized from the beginning of the year till Roth I will be have seen them like 7 times and them camp bisco is a few weeks after roth to bump me up to 10 times.
I agree with a lot of others that they kind of dropped the ball having Dylan as a headliner. I mean I love Bob Dylan - I used to be pretty much obsessed with him when I was a bit younger.
I saw him twice in '99 when he was touring with Phil Lesh & Friends and he was great. He was still playing guitar and harmonica back then and his voice sounded pretty solid. The next time I saw him was Roo '04 and it was sad to see how far the quality of his live show had fallen. I haven't seen him since then, but by all accounts I've heard, it's just gotten worse. He's a legend and I'd still go and check him out in a festival setting if there weren't any major conflicts, but I just have a feeling a lot of people will be disappointed with the quality of his "headliner" show.
Some people just cant watch Dylan play keyboards and sing like a human cigarette. But whats cool about Dylan's show at least to a music lover like myself, is you will never see the same dylan show whether its good or bad. And anyone who considers Rothbury on par with Bonnaroo after this needs to have their head examined.

Second "tier" acts are amazing, but I wouldn't be interested in seeing the Dead, Dylan, or SCI. I've seen them all before and was disappointed every time. Phish have never disappointed. Beastie's rarely come to my area, and I love the heat of TN. Roo headliners are much better IMO. Although I would love to check out Rothbury sometime for the camping. I've heard it's amazing. I would like to see STS9 at roo tho. Probably wont happen tho.

I hope this is a full on return for SCI and not part of some little reunion run. I for one won't take part in the dead horse beating of Roo vs. Roth. It's an apples/water heaters comparison. At this point, the size and scope of the festivals are far too different.
It is a solid lineup, but nothing overly impressive to me. Where is the Classic rock, other than Dylan-Dead. I love seeing stuff like Al Green, Booker T, Little Feat, etc..., and they just do not have a lot of that type of music.
