I would and I am choosing Roo pretty much due to Phish, David Byrne, TVOTR and Animal Collective, Crystal Castles I gotta say tho if Cheese doesnt tour and only plays roth I am gonna be really upset.
This is a solid lineup especially for the reggea, jazz, electonic genres, and considering all the poop Madison House has gone through with the ranch bankruptcy. I don't see them getting 40,000 there this year with this lineup and the economy. Which says for those with the means it will be a very cool weekend.
Roo's answer on Wednesday at the latest will be telling.

this lineup is great and all but i think Bob Dylan is a total waste of a headliner slot.... ive heard nothing but aweful reviews of Bob Dylan for years now, i cant imagine hes gotten better.
Other than that The Dead and SCI will make the festival themselves.
I still dont see it nearly as strong from head to toe as the bonnaroo lineup of this year or even last years Roth lineup though.
If SCI is touring its not totally out of the question that they would do Roth and Roo is it?

good lineup..but not as good as roo..not even close, imo.
the only ones im really jealous of are the Dead ,broken social scene, and the Hold Steady. still holding out hope that one or both of the latter are added to roo.

Not impressed. In fact I'm surprised by how unimpressed I am. Last year's lineup, for a festival debut, seemed bursting with promise. To me this looks like a big step backwards-- less variety, too safe. I respect those of you who mainly look for a festival to hit all the proper jamband highlights, but that's not what I want, and last year Roth was more than that.
After '08 I fully expected Roth to blow Roo out of the water in '09. Boy was I wrong, and it's kind of a relief.

the more i think about all the names ive seen on it the more i like it, but it just didnt deliver that punch in the stomach that the lineup last year did or this years roo.

Couldn't have put it better, although I get to see the Hold Steady in a small club so I'm pumped about that. I mean is it really even a contest between Roth and Roo? Rothbury is just a big jamband festival with the occasional indie/electronica act. Roo is just a big music festival, the biggest in the country. The only festivals to compare it to are Coachella and Lollapalooza.
We have legends on the top of our lineup too. Bruce and David Byrne for instance, except ours are at the top of their game, playing better and better every year. I love Bob Dylan, he's one of my favorite artists, but he can't play anymore. I do love the dead, and last time I saw Phil Lesh and Friends he was still on top of his game, but even if you add them to Roo they would be third on the lineup. Then you look at Roo's undercard and it's ridiculous. Wilco for God sakes is on the second line. David Byrne is on the second line. People have to even ask the question if The Beastie Boys are a headliner. Nine Inch Nails is not a headliner. We have bands that are exploding like Animal Collective, TV on the Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, MGMT, Bon Iver, Grizzly Bear, not to mention all the smaller acts that will be amazing.
What I'm trying to say before I get in trouble or quoted for being an idiot, Roth is a great festival if you like jambands that are at a ton of festivals this summer(other than the dead) what I understand to be a great vibe and festival grounds, and great people. But I don't think you can compare it to Roo 2009, 2003 maybe, but you can't compare it to what has become one of the biggest festivals in North America.
This is a solid lineup. Which is better, Roo or Roth. I don't know. Either way I think it's a win-win situation for festie goers this summer. We got a lot to choose from and if you can hit multiple destinations this year it will be memorable.

Get a load of this idiot... . No I agree for the most part. But I would say that Roth was set to be more than just a jamband fest with some indie rock thrown in. That's why, to me, this is rather a letdown.
Oh, and who has two thumbs and called The Dead at Rothbury 2009?
Roo>Roth for me. Phish>SCI, Bruce>Dylan (It pains me to type that, but I'm referring to live show at not in terms of legacy/catalog)
I think Rothbury has a good lineup, I'm not knocking it. I knew there was no way I'd be there no matter what as my 4th of July's are booked for the foreseeable future. I do see plenty of acts that I wish were added to 'roo (and some might very well be in this next set of additions) but none are really deal-breakers.
Compare the power of the top 10 at each, and it will become evident that Bonnaroo is epically larger and more influential than Rothbury. Not to mention, in my opinion, significantly better in terms of being more well-rounded. Where Rothbury does pull a trump card is Nas over Snoop. But everything else on the Top 10 of Bonnaroo is significantly stronger. I mean, Gov't Mule is in the Top 10 on Rothbury's and is #16 on Roo's Lineup (that's not to say I don't like them either). Just a prime example of why Bonnaroo is the most diverse and influential festival in America.
THE DEAD BOB DYLAN AND HIS BAND THE STRING CHEESE INCIDENT WILLIE NELSON & FAMILY THE BLACK CROWES DAMIAN 'JR. GONG' MARLEY & NAS STS9 G. LOVE & SPECIAL SAUCE GOV'T MULE BROKEN SOCIAL SCENE
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band Phish (2 shows) Beastie Boys Nine Inch Nails David Byrne Wilco Al Green Snoop Dogg Elvis Costello Solo Erykah Badu
Roth is not in the same universe as Roo. Broken Social Scene is 10th on Roths lineup. They were 33rd on Bonnaroos lineup last year. Besides the Dead its a fools festival.

This is a killer lineup. I think both Roo and Roth pulled their A game out. I wish I could go to Roth but I will be happy with Roo.
I'm with this. As much as I wish I was seeing the dead this year.......i'm glad i'll be seeing 2 nights of phish and bruce instead. I love Bobby Dylan but the last two times I saw him was pretty bad. He just stands around and tries to sing.....but his voice is shot. Still....it's nice seeing a legend.
But for me Roo has the lineup I want. Especially in the undercard.

Rothbury = Langerado a couple years ago. It's a nice mid to large scale music festival that is copying Bonnaroo's model on a smaller scale. Hopefully they'll learn from Langerado and not entirely abandon their format.
But really, the only reason this whole which lineup is better thing even began is because a few people on these boards viewed Metallica and Kanye as the ultimate betrayals and made it their mission to proclaim the gospel of Rothbury to all who would listen.

I heard Rothbury 2013 is just going to be in a bunch of different clubs around Detroit.
i like roo's lineup a little bit more, but this is a great lineup imo. all i got to say is where the heck are umphrey's mcgee and galactic? i thought they were both sure locks for this fest.
