Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
I for one, am not that impressed. I understand if you are a die hard dead fan, I see the appeal, but being I am not, this is strikingly similar to the waka line up. Wakarusa is only 150 after camping and has the same as
# The Black Crowes # Gov't Mule # STS9 # Yonder Mountain String Band # Les Claypool # G. Love and Special Sauce # Matisyahu Railroad Earth 20/20 Soundsystem
Nothing against Roth, it seems like a great festival if you want to see more Jam Bands, but for my tastes, Roo is 10x better.
This lineup is a joke for the price. Dylan and the Dead are too old and cheese is just bad. I used to be a big fan back when I was in jr. high. Then I saw them on their "farewell tour" at big summer classic - three nights of cheese, six sets total, all terrible. After that weekend I knew why they were breaking up. Now they're back for one night just a year and half later? So instead of breaking up like they should have, they just didn't tour in 08. Rothbury should cut the price in half so this lineup will make sense.
It seems more in line with competing with AllGood than with Bonnaroo. They have a similar size, similar bands, and a similar reputation. Also AllGood draws a lot on the local market from Pittsburgh and Philly, I expect Rothbury has to draw mainly on Detroit and Chicago.
I didn't read all six pages, so I'm guessing it's already been said... but in case it hasn't been:
If Rothbury announced a special hour set of Dylan with the Dead... I might have to drop everything to get there to see the legendary collaboration.
I do like the lineup, but it's not how we expected Rothbury to go though. I think we all thought Rothbury was moving into the big 3... Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, and Coachella. However, they made it evident this year that that's not what they're going for. They're just a Wakarusa, Langerado (of year's past), SummerCamp. Which is okay, but they need to check out their prices if they want to compete.
I do like some of the hip-hop acts they picked up. Damian Marley & Nas together, Mighty Underdogs and Gift of Gab, etc.
'sigh of relief' that rothbury's lineup is not better than roo (for my tastes). i was worried that it might be. but just like roo, i don't care about their headliners. roo wins on the undercard though, hands down. roth is what roo use to be. they cater mostly to the jam band crowd. roo still does a little bit but they have expanded a lot more. i can olny go to one fest and roo is closer and tickets were already bought, so i'm glad roth didn't throw a wrench into my plans.
I just said this over at infobury, but let's be honest, this is only Rothbury's second lineup. I think it's pretty damn good for their second lineup IMO.
Alot of people will disagree with this statement, but to me, Rothbury 09 lineup > Rothbury 08 lineup. This lineup seems a lot more thoughtful than the last. Doesn't make me want to buy a ticket and make the trek, but I think there's a progression in thought there you can't poo poo.

!!!!! I was jumping up and down after seeing this today. I am definitely going to Roo and Rothbury now this year. I was supposed to go last year but spend my Rothbury money to go see a boy so nothing is stopping me this time... that I know of....

The Dead and SCI beat the hell out of Panic and DMB for sure. There is progression I guess I just thought there would be a lot mor ethis year.
Roth isn't bad if you're a jam band fan, but I agree with the idea that it's waaaaaay overpriced. It seems like you're getting more quality acts for the same price at Roo.

Let's not forget that the venue is also contributing a decent amount to the price here. Not that I experienced it first hand or anything, but it sure as hell does sound way more appealing and accommodating than a farm in the middle of Tennessee.
It's a good solid lineup with the very special prospect of Dylan and The Dead playing together. I would go if it wasn't so far and expensive. The lineup is nowhere near as good as 'Roo imho.
I would and I am choosing Roo pretty much due to Phish, David Byrne, TVOTR and Animal Collective, Crystal Castles I gotta say tho if Cheese doesnt tour and only plays roth I am gonna be really upset.
Maybe this has already been said, but I didn't read the rest of the thread after this post: anyways Rothbury is SCI's only '09 Incident. It says so on their website: www.stringcheeseincident.com/
SADNESS
Maybe it's just as well. Cheese needs more breathing room, imo. A single night just isn't enough. Here's hoping for a 2010 reunion tour with a 3 day Cheese fest or two. BIG SUMMER CLASSIC 2010!!! ;D

Just come to the September Schwagstock, you will get your cheese fix. Maybe not something they "call" an incident, but honestly what we got there last year was really better than a full on cheese show IMO.

I give the Roth lineup a 7 while still giving Roo's Lineup an 8.25. Outside of the Ani Difranco, Claypool and The Disco Biscuits-nothing stood out. Would rather see Phish than the Dead (just purely for musicianship) and I saw Dylan last year with his new stuff being mostly what he played (he played 4 or 5 favorites literally) and it was just an ok show.
I agree that the lineup additions may very well make or break the matchup, so please add ABB and Daft Punk.

hmmm. very interesting with SCI. not sure what to think. i was a huge SCI fan back in there earlier days. the last couple years of Cheese weren't that great IMO opinion. caught them on there last tour. can honestly say i was very disappointed. something happened to those guys towards the end. we'll see what happens with this. can't afford 2 festivals in one summer. if i could i'd probably go. always wanted to see a STS9 live PA set.

To be honest, I like Roo more because I like various genres, and I'm more familiar with their line up. But I don't see how people can bash either festival. Each has some really good offerings. It's not a fucking competition.
Roo I will check out the bands I want to see and probably not discover that many new bands because there are so many conflicts already.
Rothbury... I'm not huge into the jam band scene, so I will discover some great new music, and experience a new atmosphere.
As for Dylan... I don't think Dylan is going to be a headliner for Rothbury. I think he is going to be an opener for the Dead. I think another big announcement is on its way.
2/5- Papadosio 3/3- MUSE 3/12- John Mayer 3/19- The Werks 3/31- Passion Pit 4/18- Ben Folds 4/20- Against Me! 6/10- Bonnaroo 6/30- Eric Clapton and Roger Daltrey
I might get smited for this but I just had to say something. I've noticed a few people on the infobury board who bash Roo and claim to be Roo Vets who will never return because of the direction it has taken and then once the lineup came out for Roth began posting about how excited they were about Girl Talk!?!?......Don't get me wrong I LOVE electronic music.......but Girl Talk is straight cheese. Sorry had to vent....just can't fathom hating on the Roo lineup and then praising Girl Talk

for every one of the haters who dont like the new "direction" roo has taken in recent years..theres someone like me who thinks the recent roo lineups absolutely crush any other fest and and are way better than the early (jamband only-ish) years of roo. i wasnt necessarily planning on going back to roo after my initial trek in 04...but the lineups in 06, 08, and 09 MADE me come back. they gave me no choice
IMO Bonnaroo kills roth this year. Its not even close. I like the SASQUATCH lineup more than Roths. Rothburys isnt horrible and they still have additions. Its just too similar to Wakarusas and Waka is half the price. When you compare roth and roo its just not even phucking close tho. If Bonnaroo adds 2 or so solid electronicas than every one else will officially bow down to the roo

Hey infobury is better than these guys, they actually start off their line up page calling Clarity and Jah-R Custies. I amy have had a difference of opinion or two on infobury but these boys are the definition of festie nazis.
