why is this even being argued? they aren't the same kind of festival to begin with. roth made it CLEAR from the beginning that they ARE a jamband festival. don't like jambands? yeah, probably not going to be your thing...go figure. that's why there are TONS of other festivals to attend. roth doesn't blow by any stretch of the imagination...it's just not YOUR cup of tea.
Much love for the Dead. Can't hate there. But it's not the Grateful Dead. And, have any of you seen a Dylan show in the past, say, 7 years? Sure, Dylan and the Dead will collab, and it will be juuuust cool enough for you to wish you were 50, like everyone else paying for cabins and air conditioning. And where would the Black Crowes be on the Bonnaroo lineup? Probably wouldn't be. They're just happy to get paid. And Guster? lol Should be a great festival for retirees who prefer fair weather and nostalgia to a culturally-relevant killer party. Have a blast at a festival where G. Love gets billed over Mule, Claypool and Toots.

Why does this ALWAYS happen? I mean it's fine to say you like one over the other, but it's all opinion. We really don't need to argue about it.
I'm pretty sure AEG started this one by trolling the boards last year, but I generally agree with you. The whole Roth vs. Roo thing is played out and generally lame.

Uhm....you two do realize that your beloved Bonnaroo had Guster on their line up once too. Right?
Yes i do. I saw Guster at the Ryman and it was 20 million times better than the roo show. not a festi band IN MY BLOODY OPINION. I laughed because i dont think they fit in with the BURY lineup.

Broken Social Scene- 10 Roth 2009 Broken Social Scene- 33 Roo 2008
any questions?
Yes...
You need to understand that more additions will come and bump Broken Social Scene down more, so they will end up somewhere in the 20's or late teens. Also, bands can gain more popularity. Take one of my favorite bands for example...
2/5- Papadosio 3/3- MUSE 3/12- John Mayer 3/19- The Werks 3/31- Passion Pit 4/18- Ben Folds 4/20- Against Me! 6/10- Bonnaroo 6/30- Eric Clapton and Roger Daltrey

I just don't understand the hate. People comparing Rothburys line up to Bonnaroo 2004's...then they are ripping on it. Without the people who supported Roo in 02,03,04 there wouldn't even be a Bonnaroo 2009! So you're basically bashing the people and the music that brought Bonnaroo to where it is today. Unbelievable.

well Flogging Molly isn't a jam band either... I didn't laugh when I saw them. I was fucking excited because they are including other bands besides electronica and jam based.
I hope they add some more bands like FM, Cold War Kids, and Guster to mix it up a tiny bit more. I understand that they are going to stick to their roots, but I'm excited for the additions.

I said this before and I'll say it again, given the way people trolled Rothbury nearly non-stop during the lead up to Bonnaroo last year, it is not surprising at all that you have people feeling the need to kick back.
I'm not saying it's mature, but I don't find it surprising at all.

i guess i didn't really see this "trolling" about rothbury you say was so prevalent, and i was around here quite a bit last year. and to be fair, rothbury's lineup DID kick roo's ass all over the place last year.

I guess, but it is hard to use the term groundbreaking when you are essentially imitating someone else's move from 4 years ago. Rothbury has the best lineup of any of the smaller festivals I have ever seen. I think a lot people though expected Rothbury to have moved up and taken a place in the top tier of festivals, and it didn't. It is growing with a lot of momentum behind it and I fully expect it to get there within the next few years. Considering their legal troubles they are lucky to be having a festival at all this year. I do think they are charging a bit much for the fest but people say wonderful things about the grounds so it might be worth it.

didn't guster nto show up in 04? i can't really remember but i have recollection of going to see one afternoon show on a semi rainy day and waiting almost an hour for someone to come out and no one ever did. it may not have been guster, maybe kings of leon? actually i remember it being maroon 5, but they are not on the lineup so my memory is just screwed. BUT i KNOW there was someone who didn't show up, anyone remember?

Lets not even have that argument again.
sorry...really wasn't trying to stir anything up. i truly and honestly didn't know it had happened. never saw anything myself.
Let's not forget that the venue is also contributing a decent amount to the price here. Not that I experienced it first hand or anything, but it sure as hell does sound way more appealing and accommodating than a farm in the middle of Tennessee.
I would agree with this statement, but I don't know if you've heard, but the venue has changed.
Well it's the same venue, but a lot of the amenities offered last year at Rothbury will not be offered this year. No beach access, no water park, etc. etc. Sure that was an added bonus, but that was a really nice added bonus to help make the festival a vacation instead of just a music festival.
Oh and I said this over infobury, but seriously, why can't we just agree that both these fests are going to be amazing and the greatest times of our summers?

and if you talk to the majority of the people who attended roth, you'll know that those "amenities" were rarely used, if at all. not a single person i know went to the waterpark, and only a handful(maybe 3-5) of people i know even made the effort to find the lake. i assure you the draw of roth had NOTHING to do with the amenities not being used this year.

You are blocking out 25% of the music related board drama last year then (25% belongs to OMFG Metallica, 50% OMFG Kanye sucks).
As for the lineup, eh. I don't want to hate too much on last year's Roth lineup cause a lot of people loved it. I thought it was pretty stale and prefer this year's Roth lineup.
I agree that the venue is still better... I was just saying. The stuff like the water park you could back up in ticket sale prices, but just being in a cool wooded area you can't really back up in that high of prices.
I'd like to go to Roth. for a good time though, but 'Roo already has my heart and money. I'm happy Roth's lineup wasn't as good as I thought it would be (in my opinion where I love festivals with diversity).

Yeah last year I pretty much thought all the headliners at both fests sucked. Though I saw Panic 2 times last summer, and they were better than they had been in quite awhile.

apparently so. metallica and kanye haters made it a little hard to read anything else

yes...you can. don't judge until you've been there
