Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
I might get smited for this but I just had to say something. I've noticed a few people on the infobury board who bash Roo and claim to be Roo Vets who will never return because of the direction it has taken and then once the lineup came out for Roth began posting about how excited they were about Girl Talk!?!?......Don't get me wrong I LOVE electronic music.......but Girl Talk is straight cheese. Sorry had to vent....just can't fathom hating on the Roo lineup and then praising Girl Talk
Hey infobury is better than these guys, they actually start off their line up page calling Clarity and Jah-R Custies. I amy have had a difference of opinion or two on infobury but these boys are the definition of festie nazis.

Go tell Claire and JAh~R... Custies.
They are pretty hardcore there is another thread where he swears AC is sending spies to troll his board. I was just looking for Roth info when I found it, and I did look around. I just can not imagine who would want to be a member of a board moderated by someone like that.
sorry to change topic... but k2boarder, where are the Avetts playing on 6/16? That's my birthday, and DMB is playing in my hometown... not a DMB fan, but I quacking love the Avetts!
back on topic... it hasn't been 24 hours yet, and I'm already tired of reading people's complaints about either festival on both boards.
They'll be in Pittsburgh on that date. So if you're driving north after 'Roo and have a few free days to spare you should stop and catch them.
A lot of bands hit up Pittsburgh right before/after Bonnaroo (within a week), so I was definitely hoping that would make Avett Bros. a possibility for a 'Roo repeat this year, but I see their tour is keeping them busy during the whole Bonnaroo weekend (they'll be snaking their way out of New England over Bonnaroo weekend).
when it comes down to it, these 2 festivals have good enough lineups that people on the internets feel the need to justify their reasons not to go. That generally comes off in the form of angst, hate, and general snobbery and elitism about which festival is better.
For me, I could care less. I'm about done with this whole festival thing as is. Bonnaroo 2009 may be my last camp-out style festival for a while. I have had a great ride at every Roo and many of the festivals that have risen up and gone their ways in this past decade, but I feel like the ride is sort of thinning out and becoming severely played out. All the festivals are starting to look the same, and they are just rehashing each others sh*t. I still like the music some of them present, but at some point it's like "fuck, how many jambands can you fit on to one bill and have it look the same every time." It'd be different, I suppose, if these jambands were better bands and could hold these fests weight year in and year out. But they can't, and with Phish back, the noobs who have only gone to festivals so far, are about to see what they have been missing out on, and it really may spell a retraction of this whole jam-festival scene.
Time will tell.
well, for someone like you who has been "on the ride" for years now, i can understand you feel this way. but i can't help the year i was born, and was not exposed to the festival scene until about 2004, and didn't attend my first one until 2005. to you it may have gone downhill, and i'm sorry for that. but for me, i'm enjoying the hell out of it still. i'm going to roo and roth, and plan on enjoying both of them to the fullest. i realize it's easy to get heated when someone attacks something that's important to you, and i apologize if i was a little catty.
in the end, i'd rather just celebrate what it is, than criticize what it's not.
Don't get me wrong, I do not think Bonnaroo has gone downhill at all. I actually think the Roo has done a tremendous job of rising above the fray and distinguishing themselves as a great american rock fests. I think Bonnaroo will stand strong after the jam-festival retraction happens, b/c it has emerged as the premier go-to concert festival destination of the east coast and south. My point was that it seems that many many festivals are going to suffer from stagnation in the wake of a fresh band like Phish re-emerging to conquer America.
When people leave Bonnaroo for the first time having seen Phish there are going to be countless people who would rather travel to see Phish than travel to see 100+ bands.
I WAS one of them. And I would've still been one of them had Phish not taken a hiatus, and then broken up. Their absence has allowed this festival scene to flourish with a bunch of, pardon my french, crappy jambands. And I like most of the jambands playing today, but there is a striking difference in what jambands are today and what Phish is today.
F*ck, GOTV had to get Phish move their SPAC and Hartford dates from the end of July to Mid August just so Phish didn't kill the Gathering of the Vibes this year (they already killed Langerado.)
So that was my point. I still love musical diversity, and I still love making a weekend of a festival, but at the end of the day, these fests need to start doing something other than Mule, Bisco, Umphrey's, Claypool, Panic, Dead with stock Indie bands and stock electronica to fill out the bill.
If they don't, they will fall by the wayside in time. That is why Bonnaroo was incredibly smart to anchor their fest with Phish this year.

Thanks for the information. I got confused because their page only has dates up until 5/30. Perhaps I'll check their myspace. Pittsburgh sounds like it is going to be a wicked show right after Bonnaroo, but every Avett Brother show is amazing.
2/5- Papadosio 3/3- MUSE 3/12- John Mayer 3/19- The Werks 3/31- Passion Pit 4/18- Ben Folds 4/20- Against Me! 6/10- Bonnaroo 6/30- Eric Clapton and Roger Daltrey
I knew it wasn't infobury I didn't mean to make it sound like that. I just found them surfing the interwebs. I saw a thread where dude accused AC/Superfly of sending the spies to his board and thought it was pretty funny. Later I was looking to see who broke the lineup first and saw the custie remark . These guys are pretty nutty, however they can SPELL white boy ghetto slang better than most.

i'm sorry, but phish is just not that big of a deal. they last existed before the creation of all these fests we have now. they had their own fests and were no doubt very successful and people followed them around on tour. now that they are back people are definitely excited and people will still follow them around and they could still put on their own fests. but where i disagree is their influence on the existing festivals. they are not going to ruin the successful ones. bonnaroo, rothbury, wakarusa, 10,000 lakes and others will be fine. the ones that are struggling now, were already struggling.

There are a lot of reasons Langerado died that don't include phish. Crappy economy + moving the festival to non-camping + lackluster lineup + phish = death of langerado. Phish reuniting was NOT the reason Langerado went under.

Hmmm.... The reason I'm going to Waka, Roo and Roth is because Mule, Claypool, Umphreys and The Dead will be there. It sounds like you may just be burnt out, but let us have our fun. I agree with Hippieinaustin. We who have just stepped into the festie scene recently are having a blast. Many people were complaining that Roo had lost the Jam aspect but the artists you listed above bring the jams..... and you want the jam festies to stop booking them. It doesn't make sence to me.
And truthfully, I've never even heard a Phish song. They were not an influence in my buying my Roo ticket. I'd be at Roo if they were there or not. Having said that, I do plan on having an open mind and catching their shows at Roo because Warren will probably collaborate with them.

You know, i have seen Grateful Dead, was at the first Lolla in 91 and many many other shows, and the only thing I care about is the music. Generally people who talk about "the scene" to much tend to have a stick up their arse. Its music, great music, this my generation or scene is just as asinine as can be. Hippie if you are out enjoying the music and flowing with what it is given then good for you.
Its equivalent to saying "these kids today, they don't now what they got" to criticize someone for being a "noob" your mind has just shrunken to a narrow place.
Enjoy Bonnaroo, Rothbury, Wakarusa or whatever gets you dancing...with that I leave with the prophet
"One good thing about music, when it hits you fell no pain So hit me with music, hit me with music Hit me with music, hit me with music now"

That's just by popularity... I myself would put Austin City Limits above Lollapalooza because I love the music they cater to; however, you can tell more money goes into Lollapalooza judging by the headliners that they pulled in last year.

Yea, I noticed that too when I was seeing if they would be available over Bonnaroo weekend to play the festival. However, I went to www.pollstar.com to get their dates past May 30.
The only reason I knew they were playing Pittsburgh is that I get email alerts from most of the local venues and their tickets went on sale last Friday.

You guys are soo territorial!
Rothbury is not the equivalent of Langerado, simply because they have different ownership and management. AEG/Madison House aren't newcomers to the scene.
Besides, you have to look at the pluses of Rothbury. Highs in the lower 80s, trees, a festival that actively seeks to engage you, include you in the experience and interact with you.
It's about this:
And this:
See the trees?
And if that's not enough, at night you have poop like these people...
They'll lead you to the secret stage in the forest if you let 'em... I mean, damn guys. A secret stage? That's cooler than an Xbox Arcade Tent to me.
I was gonna go to both this year, but after the lineup for Roth came out I convinced my Roo friends to try something new. And we'll have fun! But you guys enjoy your festival too. It isn't a pissing contest.

I'm sick of the Roth .vs. Roo argument. It's fuggen pointless. People going to Roo bash Roth, People going to Roth bash Roo, people going to both are happy.............can't we just let festivals be festivals? There are positives and negatives of every festival......no need to argue over which one is "better" because in the end - that answer is different for each individual person.

Yeah, that was my point. Rothbury has great things going for it, too. If you prefer one, go to that fest! Rothbury's something new I'm trying, but I still have feelings for Roo, she was my first!
If nothing else, y'all could just use the thread to discuss the more positive elements of why you prefer one over the other. Not "Roo is a hot shithole," or "Roth is a boring sleepy shitfest." I defend Bonnaroo over there, and now I gotta defend Rothbury over here, I guess I'm gonna stop, cos I can't win! It doesn't have to be black and white, guys...

There's no use in defending because nobody who feels a certain way will not read what you (or I, or anyone else) say and be like " You know what....they're right. I'm wrong and I shoulda thought about it like this".
You aren't going to change people's minds........people want to argue and bicker........it's just that the Roth .vs. Roo thing has been going crazy the past few months and now with Roth's lineup out - it's more of a focus.
I'd rather people talk about festivals positively.
The analogy I like is cookies or brownies…I prefer cookies, some people prefer brownies, but it’s not to say I dislike brownies or they dislike cookies…you know what I mean?

That is one of the best analogies I have ever heard. I prefer brownies by the way.

I know what you mean. I feel the same.
But lately it seems like a lot of people are like "Well the brownies have nuts so they are better. Anyone who still likes Cookies are stupid. Cookies are so commercial now"
