c'mon mods.... we can't say no no words but you guys can allude to them?? that's not hardly right!
*from urban dictionary*
1. Headie A person or thing that falls in the same genre as dank, kind, or sharing characteristics of one that may be considered a 'hippie'. Things that are headie often cater to being easy going and put no stress on the individual enjoying the object.
no matter what you people may say, "headie" only makes me think of one thing!!
2. Headie Some thing so great you dont want to share with anyone and would like to keep all to your head. Something of the utmost quality than cant be matched. The Best.
1. custie Short for 'customer'- Yes please dealer slang used to denote either a customer in general or a customer who would pay higher then average prices for the druqks. Can also be used a s a verb 'to custie someone'.
'Super' is often added to strengthen the word (ie a supercustie) Mike is such a custie...he paid $60 for this eighth of nonoword.
2. custie A poser. Someone who goes to a "jamband" show yet doesn't know anything about the band, goes to the show because its deemed cool, has subwoofers that play 50 Cent all day in their SUV, wears the stereotypical hippy clothing, and makes fun of people who talk about 'positive vibes' and 'positive energy.' This describes, in essence, 95% of all Widespread Panic fans and also would be appropriate terminology for 80% of the crowds at Phish shows from 1999 and on.
^^well that's just phunny.
2. crunchy quasi/modern day hippie; tends to wear no shoes, spends much of time finding way out of woods after smoking excessive amounts of nonoword, preferred fragrance = patchouli does it smell like feet in here?

What's your point? Do you really not understand the reasons that filters are used. It's not to censor speech, it's to stop certain words from being noticed by the wrong people.

^^ my point is, I don't think it is right that some words are acceptable and others aren't.
the only way i have ever heard the word headie used is reference to a no no word and I am sure I am not the only one.
and like i told kitten... If I was a first time visitor to this board and I saw the rate up system, it would immediately raise my eyebrow. I just think that there are better options out there with concise undebatable meanings.
I do not think that terms that refer to people who are intoxicated by no no words should be deemed as acceptable by our superior board standards.
edit: and someone smited me for this.... classy. sorry, didn't mean to stand by my beliefs

^^ no worries, i don't sweat the small stuff.
personally, i have a no SMITING policy because I think it is ridiculous to rate someone down for stating their opinion. sometimes I forget that others don't share the same considerate measures.

I kinda get where people are coming from.....saying that we can't talk about druqs.....but this alludes to them.
but from the other side - What about all the threads and posts were people are talking about "corn" and alluding to druqs? It's been pretty fair and they don't censor everything that alludes to it.
Post by ☮ superbek ☮ on Apr 5, 2009 12:50:07 GMT -5
I understand and respect why the filter is used. I know the mods can't censor everything like corn references and whatnot but I think it is a irresponsibility on the behalf of our mods to use the new rating words... that is something that they have control over.
I have a tendency to let the mods know when I think they are doing something right but the minute that I disagree with them I am made to feel that my opinion doesn't really matter because it's whatever they want to do and I can like it or leave it.
Bek, I have no problem you expressing your opinion. It obviously differs from ours. We don't see it as an issue. I have a prob with the person in the confession thread saying that we don't care about anyone's opinion. I take that personally, cause we do. But like I said, we can't please everyone. It's just not possible. Most everyone seems to like these new karma words. A couple may not. You wanna make your opinion known, then that's fine. But ultimately it's our choice. Calling us out anonymously with untrue and ridiculous statements is cowardice. And I stand by that.

and I understand that you guys continuously strive to make this board the best that it can be. That's why I feel the words are inappropriate. While they are open to interpretation, they have underlying meanings associated with no no words which not only could make outsiders take a second look but could also be found offensive to people who do not use no no words that participate here. Like I said, I just think that there are better options out there that do not offer a second meaning.
and I told a mod that I was made to feel that my opinion did not matter and you know what? they read it and did not reply.... guess I was right, huh?
Post by strumntheguitar on Apr 5, 2009 13:11:05 GMT -5
I just like it cause it's something different. It's something new for people to complain about. I personally find it more enjoyable to hear people discuss crunchiness and custies rather than karma. Plus the whole "fake karma" lingo was just irritating... Maybe since the labels are so lighthearted people won't be so offended when they lose a headie point... or not
And I really don't think this "allusion to druqs" is a legitimate concern, but that is just me I suppose. I was always under the impression that the reason filters are used are to avoid bosses and companies from seeing certain words on their employees web browsing, thus causing suspicion in the company as a result of Inforoo use. I really don't think that "Headie Points" "Crunchy" or "Custie" are anywhere close enough to raise suspicion...

^^ I was under the assumption that the reason filter were used was because of what happened on Jamcruise and at Waka '06... at least that's what the no druq talk thread refers to.
I think that the office/work reason makes the words perfectly acceptable but the reasons stated in the no druq thread make the new words unacceptable.
I know the mods put in a lot of work especially in the no druq talk department. I appreciate that but that why I don't understand how they are so set on not even considering changing the words. The words has double meanings, maybe not to some people but to other people... people that we don't even know who are reading this right now. And those are the people we have to worry about.
Hypothetically wouldn't you hate to go to bonnaroo and be pulled over and for some random cop to be like, "oh yeah, aren't you strum the extra crunchy 420 headie?? yeah, we're gonna need you to step out of the car..."

Well, that last part sounds ok, as long as people don't get the wrong idea and think we're a buncha winos.
Post by strumntheguitar on Apr 5, 2009 14:11:55 GMT -5
It's also important to note that just because the mods don't change one thing doesn't mean that they aren't listening to, considering, or discussing any of it. For the most part I'd say when one person or a small group want something changed on here it does get changed.
I mean, there sure are some options of Inforoo that I think are worthless and while I can't say for certain I do believe I've probably voiced my opinion on it before more than once or twice. It hasn't been changed, but that's not because they don't care about my opinion or are too self-righteous to change at the request of a non-mod. And for the most part, I'm ok with that
...Although I still think going invisible while viewing the board is dumb! Just don't log in if you wanna read the board without people seeing you!

i like the crunchy custie points. i had never heard custie in any reference to illegal substances before this thread, i always thought it was about merchandise and tickets. like a custie dude would buy a Bonnaroo shirt from the Bonnaroo vendor, a crunchy dude would buy the shirt from the guy who strolled through his campsite.
anyways, i like it better like this because its stupid and ridiculous, just like the karma. people took/take karma and smiting too seriously around here.
