By hashing this out ad nauseum, I have concluded Bonnaroo offers us the chance for beneficial inoculation. By most accounts this flu is easily spread, and causes only mild symptoms in the vast majority of cases. By putting up with a mild flu contracted at Bonnaroo or elsewhere, we gain some immunity to a more lethal mutant strain. Yeah, absent any further developments, it's time to put this thing to bed.
Actually the thing I worry about is the new snipe flu that will soon become a pandemic. The WHO needs all of you to go out and comb the woods for dead snipe, then using proper precautions mail them to the FBI for testing. Please everyone this could be life or death.

So now you WANT to catch the swine flu at Bonnaroo? You are confusing the hell out of me dude.

Sorry, I'm just slow. This is a flu we'll probably survive, so bring it on. Bonnaroo is a chance for essentially a mass vaccination. We'll all be immune to the more lethal mutant strain that evolves from this mild strain. It's like the Rapture disguised as the flu. True believers, true music lovers, will receive the Word at Bonnaroo in the form of mild flu. We will be saved by becoming immune to the descendant lethal mutation. Get down with the sickness.

It's time to give up the argument.
Virus evolution, and evolution in general, is counter-intuitive as often as not. It may be advantageous to contract this flu before it evolves into something more dangerous. Bonnaroo may save your life.

Do the producers ask the local or county government to make the decision if cancellation becomes a question? Does this absolve the producers of contractual legal obligations?
Rest assured the producers will not cancel Bonnaroo, and will not ask anyone else to do it either. If it comes down to that, it will be the State of Tennessee making the decision, and the producers will be cashing in the insurance policy they hold for just such an unlikely circumstance.
Thats basically what I was talking about when I was mentioning having respect for the dead. Like I said this is nothing for us to worry about at all. But to make fun of it is to insult the nearly 200 people that have died from it. If a family member of yours died from swine flu(no matter how ridiculous that sounds) you would feel sh!tty for making light of it.

There are currently 51 cases in NY where I live. There are 16 cases and the only SF related death in U.S.is in Texas where I am currently. Some cases popped up in Amityville NY where I grew up. I think the swine flu is after me.
I was in a band for years called The Suave Swine. If we were still together we'd be exploiting the shit out of this. Rush recording a release called "Swine Flew" or something.

People die of the flu all the time, in fact 35,000 per year breaks down to an average of 100 people a day dying. I am not trying to be insensitive to deaths, but damn it this is just not even news worthy.
IDK about Bonnaroo, but they just closed every school in the FREAKIN' county for 2 days for 2 "probable" cases of swine flu in a local elementary school! And heaven forbid the actual school the kids attended is closed AT LEAST 7 days pending "additional tests" and how many additional cases are reported. All this...and the kids never even were admitted to the hospital....they received "outpatient treatment" (i.e. they went to the Dr) and are recovering at home But it's scramble time for EVERY working parent in the county for the rest of the work week now.....

OMG - you are shitting me! That is unreal! Oh I hope they don't find any cases around here - because I have no clue what the hell I would do - the older ones could go to mom & dad's but if the daycare shut - I will be scrambling

Egypt orders the slaughtering of all of it's pigs in the country, totalling 300,000 slaughters in one day, to avoid the swine flu.... despite not having even 1 recorded infection throughout the country.

i've been reading this, imagining complimentary/mandatory flu shots being administered to festival goers upon entrance. now, picture the 'government' trying to give 80,000 hippies injections. heeeheeee.
If you wanted to get everyone it would be a lot easier to give them to some shady folks who would walk around selling them for 5 bucks a dose under a cool sounding street name.
