I take this very seriously that the possibility of bonnaroo being cancelled could be high. I know we are only 6 weeks out from roo but they way the government and media are over reacting to this asking for over a billion in aid money, states declaring emergencies when barely having double digits in confirmed cases tells me they won't hesitate to cancel our bonnaroo as a precaution, yeah the promoters and AC Superfly don't want it to be cancel but it will be out of their hands and control. It takes alot of state resources to run bonnaroo and allow it to happen and they with the swipe of a pen cancel it. The state of Tennesse doesn't give to shits about how much we care about it here at inforoo and how much we look forward to it, if they don't want 70,000+ people gathering for 4 days in close living conditions they will cancel it with the swipe of a pen. I'm not trying to be alarmist I just see them doing it without hesitation and AC Superfly I'm sure has some insurance policy that will save them from losing lots of money if this is the case.

Apparently Tennessee's first case was reported today. Swine Flu pisses me off, my school just canceled all trips outside the state. Government's and institutions are quite serious about harshing on events unfortunately.
(CNN) -- There had been no confirmed deaths in the United States related to swine flu as of Tuesday afternoon. But another virus had killed thousands of people since January and is expected to keep killing hundreds of people every week for the rest of the year.
That one? The regular flu.
An outbreak of swine flu that is suspected in more than 150 deaths in Mexico and has sickened dozens of people in the United States and elsewhere has grabbed the attention of a nervous public and of medical officials worried the strain will continue to mutate and spread.
Experts are nervous that, as a new strain, the swine flu will be harder to stop because there aren't any vaccines to fight it.
But even if there are swine-flu deaths outside Mexico -- and medical experts say there very well may be -- the virus would have a long way to go to match the roughly 36,000 deaths that seasonal influenza causes in the United States each year.
"That happens on an annual basis," Dr. Brian Currie said Tuesday. Currie is vice president and medical director at Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, New York.
Since January, more than 13,000 people have died of complications from seasonal flu, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's weekly report on the causes of death in the nation.
No fewer than 800 flu-related deaths were reported in any week between January 1 and April 18, the most recent week for which figures were available.
The report looks at deaths in the 122 largest cities in the United States.
Worldwide, the annual death toll from the flu is estimated to be between 250,000 and 500,000.
About 9 out of 10 of those deaths are among people older than 65, Currie said. Most times, they already have health problems that the flu makes worse, he said.
"Regular influenza can be taxing," he said. "It causes their underlying disease to decompensate and then they don't have the reserves to get through it.
"While it may not be the direct cause listed on the death certificate, it certainly contributed."
One of the reasons medical experts are nervous about the swine flu outbreak is that many of the people who have died in Mexico have been young and otherwise healthy. The strains found in the United States have so far been weaker.
But even the regular flu is sometimes fatal for younger victims.
"It's not unheard of. It happens, either directly from influenza or they get a bacterial superinfection" like staph, said Currie.
While researchers haven't developed a vaccine to fight the new swine flu, it can be treated with antiviral drugs Tamiflu and Relenza, the same drugs used on the regular flu.
Many times, seasonal flu itself is tough to prevent because it has mutated to a form different than it was when the vaccine was made.
Seeking to put the swine flu outbreak in perspective Tuesday, Los Angeles County public health officer Dr. Jonathan Fielding echoed other public officials calling it "cause for concern, but not for alarm."
"Given the size of L.A. County, given the traffic between here and Mexico, it would be very surprising if we didn't have any cases," Fielding said.
He said the county, where the CDC had confirmed 10 cases of swine flu by Tuesday, sees more than 1,000 flu-related deaths every year.
"So it would also not be surprising if there were deaths with swine flu -- even if it had the pattern of seasonal flu," he said. "Thus far, the pattern we see in the United States is very similar to that of seasonal flu -- relatively mild to moderate cases."
If you wanted to get everyone it would be a lot easier to give them to some shady folks who would walk around selling them for 5 bucks a dose under a cool sounding street name.
I got your H1N1 Banana Split right here. $5 bucks a hit. A dose of Tamifu is an extra 5.

ROTFLMAO Crunchy!
I don't want to jump on the bandwagon and get into this discussion but has anyone noticed what else is going on in the news? I think the next most important event besides Swine Flu is Mel Gibson banging his new girlfriend.
As soon as something more interesting comes around for the media to cover it will be like "Swine who?"
I am going no matter if I get the swine flu or not.. For the symptoms of diarrhea and nausea I will just wear adult diapers and strap a puke bag on..... Its not like I will smell any worse then the wookies there for phish...
I take this very seriously that the possibility of bonnaroo being cancelled could be high...
Time for a poll? Rate the impact of H1N1 on Bonnaroo 2009:
1) No impact - except for alarmist hysteria and cynicism on Inforoo. 2) Minor impact - Less than full attendance. 3) Minor impact - 1 or 2 band cancellations. 4) Moderate impact - Headliner cancellation. 5) Major impact - Headliner + several bands cancel, screening for illness at the gates, isolation ward on site. 6) Cataclysmic fail - Festival canceled.

Trust me the state of tennessee cares very dearly about bonnaroo, All those state resources (like cops) are jobs keeping people employed in harsh times, and the festival is a major attraction that brings in millions in revenue just to the state of tennesse through sales taxes, ticket fees, speeding tickets and so on and so forth. Not to mention the millions and millions brought in by local business like gas stations wal-marts and hotels by the influx of people. In harsh economic times like this the state of tennesse will do everything in its power to curtail canceling a lucritive event like bonnaroo. Furthermore, AC superfly did not spend the past year working their asses off to put together another major even to cancel it at the drop of a hat and collect an insurance check, to cancel even with an insurance policy would likely be very costly and it would likely piss off their customers which could affect future sales. To say the state of tennessee doesn't give two shits about bonnaroo and will cancel it with the swipe of a pen is poorly thought out statement and alarmist. Think before you speak, just because you say your not trying to be alarmist doesn't mean your not being alarmist. Thats like kicking someone in the shins then saying, I wasn't trying to hurt you.
As just meg stated the regular flew kills 36000 people a year, swine flu has killed no one in the US, and the ones it has killed in mexico was from lack of proper medical treatment. Swine flu is a joke, This is so freaking rediculous!!!

posted this in the thread in the other tent, but it got locked
Where did this sudden fear of germs come from in this country? Have you noticed this? The media constantly running stories about all the latest infections? Salmonella, E-coli, hanta virus, bird flu, and Americans will panic easily so everybody's running around scrubbing this and spraying that and overcooking their food and repeatedly washing their hands, trying to avoid all contact with germs. It's ridiculous and it goes to ridiculous lengths.
In prisons, before they give you lethal injection, they swab your arm with ALCOHOL. Wouldn't want some guy to go to hell AND be sick.Fear of germs, why these quackin' hey nanny nanny. You can't even get a decent hamburger anymore they cook the nuts out of everything now 'cause everyone's afraid of FOOD POISONING! Hey, wheres you sense of adventure? Take a quackin' chance will you? Hey you know how many people die of food poisoning in this country? Nine thousand, thats all, its a minor risk.
Take a quackin' chance bunch of golly gee hey nanny nanny.Besides, what d'ya think you have an immune system for? It's for killing germs! But it needs practice, it needs germs to practice on. So if you kill all the germs around you, and live a completely sterile life, then when germs do come along, you're not gonna be prepared. And never mind ordinary germs, what are you gonna do when some super virus comes along that turns your vital organs into liquid nuts?! I'll tell you what your gonna do ... you're gonna get sick. You're gonna die and your gonna deserve it because you're quacking weak and you got a quackin' weak immune system!
Let me tell you a true story about immunization ok. When I was a little boy in New York city in the nineteen-forties, we swam in the Hudson river. And it was filled with raw sewage! OK? We swam in raw sewage, you know, to cool off. And at that time the big fear was polio. Thousands of kids died from polio every year. But you know something? In my neighborhood no one ever got polio. No one! EVER! You know why? Cause WE SWAM IN RAW SEWAGE! It strengthened our immune system, the polio never had a prayer. We were tempered in raw nuts!
So personally I never take any precautions against germs. I don't shy away from people who sneeze and cough. I don't wipe off the telephone, I don't cover the toilet seat, and if I drop food on the floor I pick it up and eat it!Even if I'm at side walk cafe! IN CALCUTTA! THE POOR SECTION! ON NEW YEARS MORNING DURING A SOCCER RIOT! And you know something? In spite of all the so called "risky behavior ".... I never get infections. I don't get em. I don't get colds, I don't get flu, I don't get headaches, I don't get upset stomach, And you know why? Cause I got a good strong immune system! And it gets a lot of practice!
My immune system is equipped with the biological equivalent of fully automatic military assault rifles, with night vision and laser scopes. And we have recently acquired phosphorous grenades, cluster bombs and anti personnel fragmentation mines.
So, when my white blood cells are on patrol reconnoitering my blood stream seeking out strangers and other undesirables, and if they see any, ANY, suspicious looking germs of any kind, THEY DON'T. quack. AROUND. They whip out the weapons, they wax the motherquacker, man and deposit the unlucky fellow directly into my colon! Into my colon. There's no nonsense! There's no miranda warning, there's none of that three strikes and your out bullhonkey brah. First defense, BAM! Into the colon you go!

Didn't read the whole thread so forgive me if someone posted this already, but there's a website up that helps you diagnose symptoms of the swine flu. Please everyone.. check this out. Fight the disease!
Johnny Cornseed was an American pioneer nurseryman who introduced corn trees to large parts of the east coast. He became an American legend, largely because of his kind and generous ways, his great leadership in conservation, and the symbolic importance of corn.
What you mean that a festival on a larger piece of land with twice the capacity of Bonnaroo is actually addressing the situation and making plans in the event they would have to cancel the festival?
Where is Jess to call you alarmist and laugh at this as if its a complete non-issue?
quote: "What do you think? Should we change our summer plans, or is this just hysteria? Are you going to change your gig-going habits if the Swine Flu scare continues?."
Yes, I am going to barricade myself in the house with my stock pile from the 1999 scare, load up the shot gun, eat Tamifu for breakfast, and watch soap operas all day.
Until then, I got to go to work and calm people down.

Sorry I am late getfresh but yes it is not an issue. They were asked what their response was they said they were monitoring the situation. In other words, we are to polite to call you an idiot to your face. When they start canceling MLB games then I will stop making fun of people for being alarmists. That was a pretty out of context article to cite considering the glastonbury response was half a sentence, and the rest was devoted to them getting to be alarmists about swine flu.

Do a news search for festivals canceled due to flu scare. Quite a few small and moderate ones, and big ones are being "watchful." No, I didn't see any festivals the exact size and attendance of Roo contemplating cancellation, so we're safe.

but i think two infants died...but those are infants. some of the weakest immune systems.

Yeah, you're right. Big, outdoor music festivals watching the flu situation is out of context. Sorry.
United States President Barack Obama in an emergency session with his cabinet again today over the Swine Flu, has requested that from now on to begin calling it, "Miss Piggy Flu".
We're hurting here", stated Obama. "We depend on tourism and ...TOURISM is dropping like Miss Piggy Flu victims. This...thing could last...awhile. I..suggest that we get permission from the ....Muppet People to..use that pig's name."
The news went online immediately on Drudge and Rush Limbaugh called it a crock, two minutes later.
Meanwhile, several public announcements are being prepared featuring Kermit the Frog, Oscar, Gonzo and a whole host of other Muppets as cute as can be.
On radio, "The Miss Piggy Flu Connection" song is being played at most stations.
While President Obama has assured Americans there is "no cause....for alarm" by reading it off his prompter, aides say he has ordered Homeland Security to begin referring to the illness as "Miss Piggy Flu" in hopes of avoiding widespread panic.
Meanwhile in Iran, President Ahmadinejad announced that Iran had zero number of Swine Flu victims and will never have any. "Our women were already prepared with their faces covered." Then, just to spite Obama, Ahmadinejad repeated the term, "Swine Flu In America" 25 times and ordered it to be broadcast as such, 24 hour a day.

No what is out of context is the article is merely them redefining the question. Also out of context is the full response from Glastonbury instead of just 1/2 of a sentence of their response.

Yes, I know that at least one of them was a two year old. And he was from Mexico (just visiting the US).

You know, they say the Velociraptor Virus is what killed off the dinosaurs...we might need to take this all more seriously. I just bought a 500 gallon tub of Purell on ebay to bathe my family in every night.

There has been reports of it that some people in Chicago got it, but I thought I heard they were in a predominately Mexican area........I could be wrong though

Of course a business whose lifeblood is attendance-based will be very, very careful when talking about possible cancellation. The less said the better. The question is out there... What will be the impact on large, outdoor music festivals? Glastonbury is in context.
