\ All I know to do is give you alist of some his truly awesome tunes to Youtube, you can make up your mind about his "suitability", and I will give your opinion a lot more credit if you do. There are always bands at 'roo I dont like, but I try to give them respect. Also since when does being in a frat mean you can never be a musician? One more point here, the Parrotheads are possibly the most devoted fans out there, right up there with Phishheads, and deadheads.
I watched all the videos and I'll stick to my guns. He sounds like easy listening acoustic music to me. It seems I'm in the minority in this thread, but I just don't appreciate his music. It's not like it's terrible, it's just doesn't speak to me at all.
In terms of "suitability" you make it seem like I'm the grand poo-bah of Bonnaroo. Just because I don't like a band and find them to be cheesy, doesn't mean you have to get in a huff about it. I gave my reasons, and I'm going to stick to it.
And the frat comment, it's bad to generalize a large group of people, but frats are usually a pretty easy target. They represent the hard drinking, roofie giving, bros of America, and while most do not do this, and some use their frat for contacts in their professional life, or just do it to make friends, the other group ruin it for the rest of them. So when I see something as bro music, like DMB, O.A.R., or Jimmy Buffett I'm usually put off.

Well what you said about suitability, rubs me the wrong way. I certainly don't go in the threads of bands I find cheesy and obnoxious, and challenge whether or not they should be on the bill, to fans of those bands. As to the Frat thing, this has come up before, and a surprising number of people on here were in a frat. They all seem pretty cool peeps to me, so I am not going to let your fraternal organization prejudice effect what music I like to listen to either. I guess we will just have to agree to disagree on this one.

Definitely agree to disagree. I usually do agree with you however, as you always give great points and don't just take the easy way out of argument.
In terms of coming into a thread to rain on a parade, if I don't like a band I'll let tell it. Sometimes it gets boring in a thread when it's just a rain of people all on one side of an argument, but that's just my view.
I've never understood how people can judge an act without knowing them. Sure everyone's heard a few hits......but until you listen to a bunch of albums or see them live or do a little research.......how can you judge what you don't know?
yeah im not a fan of certain acts having a stigma that is just based on a lack of knowledge I got called a "fag" last night for playing a Dave Matthews Band song on the Juke Box at BW3

I was lying in a burned out basement With the full moon in my eyes. I was hoping for replacement When the sun burst thru the sky. There was a band playing in my head And I felt like getting high.
Todd Snider has been know to play with Jimmy Buffett. Todd plays his show on Sunday but is open on Saturday. Man, that would fantastic! And right-on to whoever brought up Bob Schneider.
Instead of dirt and poison, we have rather chosen to fill our hives with honey and wax; thus furnishing mankind with the two noblest of things, which are sweetness and light.

Well for me it's a can't lose rumor, cause I wasn't planning on seeing any shows on Sat until Booker T.
So it looks like now I'll be cruising by the stage just to check it out. I'll find a nice shade tree near Which and chill out there. If he shows up I'll run down as close as I can get without pushing through people. If he doesn't, I'll get a much needed nap in after Friday late night.

my dad is a huge Parrot head, so I was introduced to Buffett at a very early age. He used to read me one of my favorite books, The Jolly Mon, which was written by Jimmy & his daughter Savannah. I've listened to his music growing up, and I still enjoy it today.
That would be amazing for him to pop up at Bonnaroo! I've never seen him live before, and I would love to see him play at the setting of Roo; I think it would be very magical.
I really don't see how anyone could hate Jimmy Buffett.. his music is pretty damn infectious.

I wouldn't be opposed to Buffet being at Roo. It's not really my thing, but he likes to party. Phish really isn't my thing either, but I'll see them with an open mind and hopefully enjoy. Buffet is no different than other people on the farm. There will be people who are into it and want to see it, and the others will watch someone else. That's why they have so many acts playing at the same time. Something for everyone. And if he does come to Roo, I'll certainly drop by. The man's a legend and I could at least say I've seen him.
Something to note, if you look for Ilo's name on the roster, it is not quite at the bottom of the list as far the regular stages names go. Besides the fact that Jimmy loves this guy, we hardly know much about him. I know more about the 25-30 acts listed after him than what I know of Ilo. I am not one to feed into this sort of speculation, but I say there is a decent chance for Buffett to make an appearance.

Also, if you google Ilo, not much comes back other than Bonnaroo stuff.
Nodepression--it's funny you call Buffett "bro" music (ugh, I went to an OAR show once...totally "bro"). I guess I can see it, but most parrot-heads I know are like 50 years old Yeah he may not be the greatest musician in everyone's opinion, but it's good drinky/beachy/summery type music. Kind of like when the bar puts some cover band on the patio. They aren't great, but somethine about hearing live, laid-back music just sets the mood. That's just me though

My thoughts on Jack Johnson last year mirror my thoughts on Buffett now, but in the end because I wanted to get a good spot for Pearl Jam, I stayed through his set, and it actually was the perfect set for that time. Just laid back, relaxed, summer music, and in the end it may not have been one of my favorite sets musically for the weekend, it's one of my best bonnaroo memories. So maybe I'm being too tough on Buffett.
As for the bro thing, I guess they're just bros with gray hair and a margarita instead of puka shells and popped collars haha.

Most Parrotheads I know are like old Deadheads with a Margarita, instead of drugs .
I'm kind of shocked by the closed-mindednes of this thread. Make fun of Cheeseburger in paradie for cheesy lyrics. Wow great job. You should be writing for rolling stone (which you would never read.)
like jess said, one particular harbor and come monday are great songs (also does a great southern cross cover). there is more to music then being a technical master. there's song writing and emotion and mood.
and for the "bro, popped collar, frat" crowd. seriously inforooers, be alittle more closed minded. im sure you'd like to be judged by your clothes and your hair. you sound as ridiculous as somebody saying "i dont want to see phish because of their smelly hippie fans and all the drugs they do."
i have friends from college that on the surface fit that (fratboy) profile. they are some of the best friends i have, and some have been to alot more phish shows than alot of people on this board. and even if they only go to "one show a year" like somebody said. are they not good enought to go to bonnaroo. or are you too good not to go to a concert with them?
if you cant enjoy a couple buffet songs with a cold beer on a summer's day, i feel bad for you, but youre entitled to your opinion. just leave us to ours and dont belittle the people that do his enjoy music. he's certainly not going to detract from the festival.

I'm sorry, why would I never read Rolling Stone? I pretty much devour any music magazine I can get my hands on, and Rolling Stone whether you like that they occasionally put the fucking Jonas Brothers on the cover still contains some of the best music writers in the business. While sometimes they lean to hard on old stalwarts like Springsteen (who I love but shouldn't have gotten 5 stars for Working on a Dream) or U2 (another inexplicable 5 star review) they still have great photos and articles.

I'm well aware music is not just about technical mastery, and I get in arguments with my friends all the time about this. Just because a certain metal song has a really difficult guitar part doesn't make it better than what Seven Nation Army, which has a relatively simple guitar line (until you get to the slide guitar part.)
However Jimmy Buffett, and the emotion and mood you are talking about is something that doesn't speak to me. I live in Buffalo, the closest body of water to me is Lake Erie, and if you know anything about Lake Erie it isn't exactly palm trees and warm breezes. So when I listen to Jimmy Buffett I can't appreciate the lounging and drinking thing, because 9 months out of the year, the weather is far from 80's and sunny

Not inforooers, me. I said pretty much everything you quoted from in these paragraphs. The reason I said the one show a year thing, and this was shortsighted on my part, was because I look at how many concerts you go to as how much you will give away for music. I spend my paychecks on music, vinyl, concert tickets, festivals, so when I say the one concert a year thing it's because I feel there is a relationship to how much you can know and appreciate music to how many shows you attend. I'll drive to Toronto by myself to see a show because I love being at the show so much. Maybe there's other reasons why you can't go to a show, monetary or personal, but when you go to a festival like Bonnaroo, most of the people there absolutely love good music, and being a part of something for 4 days that is the center of the music world.
As for frats, there are exceptions in every group, and some of my good friends are in frats, but as a whole, when I think of frats, I don't think of somebody who I have a bunch in common with.

You're right I shouldn't belittle people who like his music. However all this is my opinion, I'm not forcing them on anyone, I'm just giving a different opinion. Hopefully in the future I'll be able to do so without insulting people who do like what I'm complaining about.
If you're from Buffalo nodepres, you should appreciate this name check. One of my favorite all time JB tunes,Manana...
She said I can't go back to America soon So God damn cold it's gonna snow until June Yeah they're freezin up in BUFFALO,stuck in their cars And I'm lying here neath the sun and the stars...

i might have been a little harsh. didn't mean to single you out. its all good
