Ya'll may hate me for this but, out of the last two years, me and my crew (around 8 cars) have all made it in together in about 60 minutes combined! Both times we were routed to the back entry (shady brush trail i think?) and ended up pretty far from centeroo (not BFE).

Last year was my first year and I was in (from the Holiday Inn next to the Walmart) in under 30 minutes and we got a great spot too. I have heard these horror stories though. From what I can tell from other posts your best bet is to head in from the south as opposed to the north
They keep saying
Don't stop, no one's ever enough
I'll never look back, never give up
And if it gets rough, it's time to get rough
But now I'm falling, falling, falling
looks like im the only one who had to wait FOREVER !!!!!
No...I too waited like forever (9 hours to go 9 f'ing miles) I literally thought at some point, on this backroad we were on, I would hear the banjo from Deliverence.

I think it was a lot earlier than that because we didn't get to the wal mart parking lot until 9-10pm and there were already people who had left to go in.

Yeah pretty sure it was more like 7:30 or 8pm. I hadn't been at Wal-mart long, long enough to set up my EZ-up and tent, when they announced that the gates were open. I think it was still light out.

08 we were in line for about four hours, got there around two o'clock or so, it was fun 'cause every time the line stopped we would all get out and play frisbee or engage in the use of illicit substances.
09 we got there about 1 o'clock, stayed in line for about two hours.
I'm driving up with a friend on Wednesday from Dallas. So I figure if we leave Dallas around 7 am, we should be getting to the grounds by 7:30-8:00 PM. The gates should be open by then, no?
Originally we were going to get a hotel, but after reading this thread, just seems easier to get everything set up on Wednesday night. I really don't want to become one of the traffic horror stories of sitting in a car for 8+ hours. Plus it sounds like there is no guarantee of where they will place you.
Thats one extra night on the farm, and the ability to spend all of Thrusday just soaking in the atmosphere. I would take that any day over a random wait time and random placement. Plus I like James Bond. ; )

Anyone have any idea about what time BFE finally filled up last year?
We got in at about 1230 or 1 and ended up in Miss Moneypenny or Holly Goodhead.
Do they fill from the back or front?
We are still trying to arrive as early as possible this year, but may get in the crapshoot to try and get a little closer. Deciding for sure after I see the schedule.
We rolled into town around 12 or 1.. We got directed by cops to back entrance and waited for about 2-3 hrs on the backroads and got our camp setup around 4-5
I have wondered when BFE actually gets full as well.
In 2007 we got in around 2 on Thursday morning/Wed. night and were placed back there. We stayed up most of the night wandering around like idiots because we were so excited to be there and i remember by 6:30 or 7 the space was full and people were lining up to make a break for tent-only.
We got in line, off of exit 127, at about 2pm Thursday and got in a lil before dark, in BFE. We would have waited longer but some locals took us on a shortcut through some backroads, which def. saved us a couple hours.

So I've been wondering what is the best way to go about this, any advice would be great. . .
My boyfriend and I will be leaving out of Dunlap, TN (where we are dropping off the wee one to stay with his nana and pop pop.) My friends will be in another car traveling from Nashville, TN, probably going down I24. We are planning on meeting up in Manchester and getting to the gate by 7am-ish. (we are camping side by side, hopefully)
So here are my questions. . . What is they best way to come into Manchester from Dunlap and/or Nashville? (Should we stick to I24 or are the back roads the best way to do it?) Where is a good place to meet someone in Machester? (I'm afraid Walmart might be too crowded.) When does I24 start getting backed up?

In 2005 (which I think was the highest attendance) we showed up around 11:30 and waited for 30 or 40 minutes. I wish I knew what we did differently...

I'll field this one. Your friends from Nashville (assuming they are coming down 24) will be forced to overshoot Bonnaroo by I think 12 miles, at which point they'll have to exit and get back on Westbound to get in line. I would recommend choosing an exit 12 or so miles out. If they beat you there they can tell you where they are. This will be easier than going to Wal-Mart IMO, and you'll be able to jump right in line on 24.

Last year, I got there around 4ish and was in line for maybe two hours. It sucked because we caravaned with 11 other cars from Knoxville and got split up right at the end when they waved us off the temp exit.
I am contemplating leaving for the 'Roo from work on Wednesday night at about 12ish which would put me at the exit at maybe 3am (I drive the speed limit). Will the gates be open to go in? Also, will I be able to set up and get decent sleep for the Roo gets rolling?

The gates will be open, coming in Wednesday night/Thurs morning is a good idea because it gives you the chance to get your camp set up (albeit in the dark) and get some decent rest and have a full first day.

Last year we got in line about 10 miles back and went no where for about 2 hours with people aggressively cutting us (10 quacking miles back and we got cut like a dozen times!). This guy we were with decided to drive up ahead and scope out wtf and ended up cutting pretty close to the entrance; we ended up just following him since i was pretty low on gas anyway. That was the first time I had ever cut, but driving along that 10 mile stretch of cars enlightened me.
You know why you only move 1/4 mile per hour when you're 10 miles back? Because there are miles and miles of lackadaisical, frisbee playing, mellow, A.D.D. morons creating HUGE gaps and letting hundreds of cars in. The quackers who get out constantly and allow these huge gaps/cutters are enablers. I don't really know what to do about it; everyone just needs to be a cock-block and not let people cut. Until that happens though, have fun moving 1 mile in 3 hours. This year just drive ahead and look at HOW quacking HUGE AND NUMEROUS all the gaps are. Check out this youtube vid also:

Cutting in line is shitty, but I see what you mean. The line looked like it stopped at the 1:00 mark; that was almost a quarter mile of nothing. For those determined to cut and make us honest folks wait, there are opportunities a-plenty.

the thought of cutting makes me feel sick and dirty, but i don't know how to stop it. maybe if everyone did it and made people so damn hostile about the situation that they stop letting it happen. it's like when you're on the freeway and it narrows to 1 lane. the only reason for all the traffic is all the people rushing up to where it merges and trying to cut in.
