the thought of cutting makes me feel sick and dirty, but i don't know how to stop it. maybe if everyone did it and made people so damn hostile about the situation that they stop letting it happen. it's like when you're on the freeway and it narrows to 1 lane. the only reason for all the traffic is all the people rushing up to where it merges and trying to cut in.
That's the problem, I think. I imagine if police saw someone cutting, they might intervene, but if someone gets in front of you, what recourse do you really have? You can get out and say something, but that might cause an unwanted confrontation and will further stall traffic. With that number of people and a line that long, if you really want to cut, there's really nothing stopping you...

I was wondering, if I'm not camping and just using daily parking, will I still get stuck in these lines? What time should I be arriving every day to make sure I don't miss anyone I want to see? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

i keep seeing people say that they're showing up the night before, or at like 3am on the opening day... the site says if you show up before 7 on opening day they will turn you around and make you leave.... is this just a threat? or is this a new rule?
i planned on getting there at like 6am, but if super-early is allowed then i might just do that instead...

The website always say that, they just don't want a mass amount of people coming before Thursday.
hey, I was wondering if someone who has gone before could give me the rundown of getting there. I'm coming from New Orleans and want to get in line around 4 am Thursday morning. don't they open around 7 or 8 am thursday morning? that's what I've heard. but anyway, I'm coming up north on 59 and getting on 24 from Chattanooga. are there going to be directions and what not that early? and I've been seeing a lot of people talking about a wal-mart? I know I sound completely clueless to everyone but it's my first time and I really want to plan this all out so I can get in line as early as possible. it's about an 8 hour drive from New Orleans.

I considered answering this post with answers, but instead I'm going to say this: "Take your coat off, stay a while."
All the answers you seek have already been typed out a billion times within this very forum. There are individual threads covering all of your questions.
haha yeah, after I posted that I read other things and found out what all the talk was about. I think I'm just going to get in line around 5 am and just nap it out.

How do you know how to get to the line for handicap entrance or camp area, or do you just wait with everyone else and they send you there when you get in?

It does seem like I read somewhere that handicapped are supposed to go in one specific entrance... can't remember which one, and I'm sure it doesn't really matter anyway, but I guess I should probably look into that huh? hah

In '08 we were waiting in line and a car cut in front of us and there were 2 random girls that had introduced themselves and were in our car and they got out and started throwing rocks at the car in front of us until they left the line. I was so worried they were gonna start something since that is definitely not the way to approach that situation. It worked but I don't recommend doing that.
That being said we usually go in Wednesday night and wait maybe 20 minutes. In '08 we waited about 4 hours to get in. In '06 we waited about 6 hours. Every other year has been Wednesday night.
2009 was our 1st 'roo & we were coming from Atlanta. We hit the waiting line on I24 around 6am CT just north of exit 114. It moved really, really slow. We saw cops were letting people into the secret exit & thought "this is gonna be awesome"! Then the cops stopped letting cars in when we were only 3 cars back! ack
We were forced to keep going past & drive to exit 111 & came in through New Bushy Branch Rd to the checkpoint. We ended up getting camp set up in Camp Dr. Rumack right behind the trees (which was great; blocked the morning sun so we all could sleep in).
All told, it took us about 8hrs from 1st pulling onto the shoulder of I24 to get to our camping spot.
When we go this year (2011), we're gonna have a small accessable cooler w/ sandwiches & drinks to eat some lunch while we wait in our cars. It sucked the 1st time we went because all of our food was packed under all our supplies.

In 2009 we got in line on the freeway about 7 am. Around 11 a couple of DBs in a fancy BMW cut in front of my friend's car when she didn't move up fast enough. Needless to say, we and the people around us in line were pissed. FF about 30 mins and suddenly a cop pulled up to their car and ushered them off the road because they were enjoying corn in their car. Don't be a cutter or bad karma will get you! ;D (We got in about 12:30.)
Last year I was already in full PartyBoy mode when we hit the line, so the details aren't precise. We got on line around noon, didn't get to camp until 6 or so. I also had to hop out of the car to relieve myself and that happened to be the exact moment the line decided to move 2 miles. I had the fun chore of trying to catch up to my car for the next hour (since my friends are idiots and wouldn't pull over).
Could someone please explain the situation with the lines.
How many lines there are?
What lines are usually quicker/shorter?
Is there a back entrance on Bushy Branch road?
Mainly two lines routed from the highway. Coming from south, you stay on the highway, coming from Nashville they send you down the backroads on Bushybranch.
In 2009, the line on the backroads was 10 miles long and took about 8 hours. I will do everything I can to avoid that line this year. It seems like most people just got in line, but many just cut. The cops wouldn't allow you to turn around and get in the other line on the highway.
i don't want to enter off of bushy branch but i'm coming from the north on 65 to 24e. is it reasonable (as it appears on a map) to cut off of 24 on hwy 53, take that to manchester and head down 41 until i get back to 24, at which point i will be taking 24w into the farm? it looks like it would just take me through manchester, i'm just wondering if i'll get re-routed back to bushy branch. any advice?

We have always come in from the south. This year we were going to stay in Nasheville on wednesday night and get in line early Thursday morning. This would mean we came in from the north.
Can anyone else confirm that coming in from the north sucks???
I'm super excited, my husband however could care less....he just finally broke down and got us tickets for our anniversary.
So, I'm a little worried about the searching before. How much time out of the line will this take and will it take me that much longer to get in, if I do get randomly chosen? What if I'm following a friend and only one of us get searched and we get separated? How do we get back together again?

We typically spend the night in Nashville also. Each year we leave Nashville around 5-6am and get in line about an hour later. The line then gets routed down bushy branch road. I've been put by the bush branch toll booths each year. Love it out there, wouldn't have it any other way. However, I am sure some would say that is too far of a walk for them.

Last year we stopped at a gas station about 4 miles before the Wal-Mart to get some smokes, ice and other random stuff. We asked the clerk where the closest entrance was. They kindly pointed us to one right behind the gas station. We drove right over (around noon), waited in line for about 30 minutes, and got parked right in Apollo Creed (sooo close to Centeroo I could hear KOL during their set I didn't care to see). That's luck, and I'm praying I don't have to wait too long this year. My friends that are also from Delaware were only 4-5 miles behind us on the trip, took a different entrance, waited 6 hours and got parked in BFE...

The search will last only 15-20 minutes tops. Much longer if they find something Illegal. Our friends were able to catch back up with our caravan when they got searched you just have to be creative. I think they just drove past the line till they caught up with us then we let them back in on the way to getting parked. You could also try to pull over on the side of the road after going through the tollbooths and wait for them to catch up, but the parking people don't like it when you stop and they'll yell at you.

Yea, i come from Michigan and last year we got taken down to the stuckeys exit and we re-routed through the back and ended up at the northeast bushybranch rd tollbooth.

this is why i drive a little further down 24 and turn around so i can enter thru the 112 exit.
That exit periodically gets shut down and they send people to Exit 111 to be re-routed to Bushy Branch Road. And it's also the side that had the 8 hour wait last year.
Basically, if you hit the Roo traffic during "rush hour" you're waiting for a long ass time.
