In 2009 we had some ridiculous dumb luck. We were completely lost coming through Manchester. My GPS got us all turned around and we blindly turned down a road to try to turn around, saw a little traffic and decided to follow it and got in one of the back exits with no wait at all. We ended up in BFE, so it wasn't all great, but it was purely accidental.

last year on I-24 we got in line around 11 i think, and were stuck in traffic for almost 10 hours. most of our time was spent walking along the road next to the car or pushing our friend's car which only had about 1 gal of gas left in it.
2011 I got in line probably around 5sh on Wednesday (don't remember the time exactly, it was an hour after they opened the gate I remember), and ended up in Pete Campbell right before it started getting dark. Kinda far, but there was tree cover, so we could sleep in pretty late. Went in the East entrance.

2011: Got to Manchester around 10ish Wednesday. Got in line around 11 at the East Entrance coming from the Walmart. Finally in camp and setup by 7 as I remember. In Super BFE. Was a long night. Definitely coming earlier this year, West/I-24 entrance. Lock down some BFE turf.
Got in line at 10 on wed. Waited for 2 hours. Got Camp Adrien! Behind tent only.
Not sure what entrance but they were merging 3 different lines into this entrance across from a gas station.
Obviously will be trying our luck again by going the same route.
i got into traffic at probably 10 pm on the highway(maybe earlier), and they re-routed us to the entrance your talking about at about 2am-ish. we didnt make it in until probably 6... it was light out when we finally got parked in what had to have been the furthest possible campsite. so we werent set up in TO until about 8 am.
the first year i went we waited 10 hours in taffic, and landed a 25 minute walk to centeroo

Got in line right around midnight on Wednesday night/Thursday morning. Got a very, very good spot about a three minute walk from inforoo at around 7:30am.
It sucked that I was basically awake all night while waiting in line. But I did doze off every now and then. It all caught up to me when I fell asleep during the Arcade Fire's set.

2011 - Drove down I-24 W from Nashville. Turned around and entered thru the makeshift exit on I-24 E. It was Thursday morning around 9er. Was all set up in Camp Han Solo by 1030am.
Got in line at 10 on wed. Waited for 2 hours. Got Camp Adrien! Behind tent only.

We must've been in the same line. We were coming from the Knoxville area and got in line about 11 and only waited about an hour and a half and got Marty McFly.
2009 was the only year we had a significant wait. About 6 hours in line. We got in line thurs morning at about 830. 2010 we went in Weds night and got through in about 45 minutes. Last year we got there Thursday around noon and got in almost immediately.
We're coming from Minnesota and was thinking of taking I 65 south from Nashville and hitting Manchester from hwy 55 instead of taking I24.... any thoughts?
Is the line any different if you're in a RV? Our group is planning on getting to Manchester around 11 pm or so Wednesday. Is there still a "scene" at the Walmart?
The Walmart scene doesn't go away until late Thursday or early Friday (never been there then, but even comin' in later Thursday there's tons of folks still). If you're GA RV you can still come in Wednesday. But accordin' to the website VIP doesn't open up until 8am on Thursday.
2010 - Drove N from Chattanooga at about 7 am. Diverted to Hillsborough HWY and sat in line for about 6 hours. . . placed in far NE corner of the farm (30 minute walk to Centeroo).
2011 - Didn't stop for a hotel in Chattanooga, arrived from Tampa at about 5 or 6 pm Wednesday. Zero wait. Camped in the trees behind the RV's (old operations area of the farm). All was good but they didn't seem to clear that part of the farm very well, twice I tripped over rusted strips of barbed wire that were hidden in the grass, and the pot holes nearly ripped off my bumper.
2012 - Plan on arriving from Tampa at 5 pm to the NE gate.

Where is the old operations area?? What was the name of the camp?
Wow...I didn't realize it was a long wait on Wed night. I'm bringing wife and child for family campging so I may have to reconsider this. I can't be setting up a tent at 3am

It's really a crapshoot. I think the longest wait we've ever had was 9 hours on Thursday morning in 2008...but that was also our best camping spot.
Last year we were in line for 6 or 7 hours, and that was getting in line maybe around 10pm....I hated it...I was soooo sleepy, haha.
But the year before that we went in Wednesday around 8pm or so and only waited in line a few short hours, we were in BFE but that was fine, it was the shortest line I've been in since 2006.

Looks like you and I have the same plan. I'm heading up from Orlando, and hoping to get to the gates around 4 or 5 Wednesday.

^^^So true. Definitely one of my favorite years! Well we will run into each other at the Brunch this year!! As long as we both go....I made more cakepops then any one person could consume...so I HAVE to go!
Yeah last year we tried the Wednesday thing and it wasn't quite the success we had in 2010....but this year is the year, haha!

Last year we got in line around 10pm Wednesday night, got through the gates about 5am Thursday Morning. We talked security into not putting our caravan in Clark Griswald, and drove past security until we saw the interstate line putting people into Rocky Balboa and ended up with a great spot. I think we cheated
