Man, this festival is just ridiculous every year. I've actually now decided to plan a trip with this as the starting location in 2012. I put it two summers from now, because that's how long it's going to take to plan and prepare for it all.
Start out at Glastonbury at end of June, experience London and England a month before the Olympics start (pre-Olympic activities are always exciting), then travel through Europe all of July (Euro rail pass is ~200E for 2 months) and end in Hungary @ Sziget festival in mid-August.

I was talking to some brit girls while Punch Brothers were playing, and asked if they were going to Glasto. "No," they said "we couldn't get tickets in time so we spent our Glasto money coming here." A light came on in my mind as to why I've been meeting so many brits the past few years at roo. We're the Glastonbury overflow festival.

Just an fyi, there is no Glastonbury in 2012, every five years or so they take an off year. 2012 is that year due to the olympics. Next year U2 is supposed to be back since they didn't make it this year. If u plan on going, you have to be ready and have your picture approved and registered well before tickets go on sale. I stayed up until 6am on ACL weekend to buy tickets for me and Zoie after they went on sale. It sells out pretty much every year with no lineup. You can bail up until May if needed and you bought insurance.
Today we got to our hotel by Heathrow and took a nap, 2 days of no sleep will do that. Sort of dreading hauling our gear to the campsite tomorrow morning, I probably grabbed a few extra items which may have not been necesary. I tend to overprepare in general. My part of the load will be around 75 pounds to carry for an hour. Half my weight in other words.
Everything is good to go otherwise, our gear is pretty much packed and today has been just taking it easy for the monumental experience we are about to have. To my knowledge there is no way to have someone carry it, the only option would be to buy a dolly or wagon which is not happening on our end.
As far as I know there is no internet access or wifi around the site, still needs to be confirmed, but this will probably be our last update for a while. I will try to take a lot of pictures, but must enjoy this as much as possible. I tend to take the most pictures and videos when by myself. We may split up for a show or two, but right now playing it by ear.
Also, the Coachella board Glastonbury forum has a few people going, worth checking out, but its over 100 pages now. Its helped me prepare immensely.

Glastonbury is fucking incredible, no other way to describe it otherwise. It's so massive you can spend hours wandering around just seeing things. It took about 3 days just to get a good idea of what routes to take around the site. I still would end up getting lost though.
For music festivals, nothing else compares. I probably have 1500 photos to upload and a bunch of videos, but have a crappy internet connection. Plus I am about to travel Europe for a while. I will get to it when I can.
Seriously, its worth saving up and skipping every festival in the USA to go to Glasto once. It's the enchanted forest of music festivals.
Muse was the best crowd I have ever seen. Period.
I walked more in 5 days than I ever have, and I already wanna go back. Also, there was no mud.
Thanks for the link! After spending the last few hours researching and reading about this, I am sold. I can't think of a better way to spend the summer between the completion of my undergrad course work and graduate school.

It's definitely worth the trek to Glastonbury. It won't be cheap, but it's worth it. Spend some extra time in Europe if you can. As stated above, register now. They are strict on approving your picture just fyi.
I have started uploading some of my pics from Glastonbury to facebook and have a few youtube videos up. Links below if you wanna check them out. I have tons more stuff to upload all week.

Reading review of Roskilde and Glasto on the Coachella forums, I am torn between the two.
In your experience at Glasto, did you encounter a large amount of drunks? I understand there are plenty of drunks at any festival, but some are claiming a crowd more concerned with booze than music. Were party favors available? Did you find the crowd to be receptive and open like bonnaroo?
Both festivals look absolutely amazing, but the fact I have to buy a ticket prior to the line up is a bit of a concern. I am registered and approved and will make this decision in the coming months, but first hand input from your time at Glasto would be great.

There are many people drinking there thats for sure. It seemed like most people would catch a good buzz, but it wasn't an entire crowd of fall down drunk people. I did see some falling down though. This year was also really hot, so that may have affected it somewhat. Tons of people bring their own cider and beer there, you see tons of people everyday carting boxes of cider and beer back to their campsites all weekend. It's pretty jolly in the drinking atmosphere.
Drinking is way more prevalent than the party favor atmosphere there though. Lots of heavy lines around the cider buses. Also, bars are all over the site, its just part of the atmosphere and I enjoyed it immensely. The prices were about 3.5-4.25 pounds for beer or cider pints. I drank a good amount of Brothers cider whenever I had the chance. you can also buy 4 at a time if that's your thing. THey had these carriers to load them into, at the end of the day they would litter certain areas and people would collect them and start fires and hangout around the fire burning trash. It's definitely a sight to see.
As far as party favors go, it is way more prevalent at Bonnaroo than I saw at Glastonbury. No one around me was smoking at Willie, at least in the area I was at (kind of wierd). Hardcore party favors can be found there, but I did not try to seek it out. I did find what I was looking for at least after two days. The easiest place to find them is stone circle.
A bit on the stone circle, it's one of about 3 areas on the hill that overlooks the festival site (The park stage, green fields tipi area & stone circle). Basically at night, you can buy a bundle of firewood or these large candle sticks, and groups congregate by campfires or candles around the hill doing there own thing whether just relaxing, drinking or party favors. To me it was one of my favorite areas. I was by myself most of the time at night and I would just walk up to a group to meet new people and hang out before heading back to camp. i met lots of interesting people hanging out there the 3 times I went at night. It was really hard to understand the accents of some of the guys i met from Newcastle. THere were also tons of people setting off paper lanterns from there so a constant flow were always flying off into the air. It just was an awesome atmosphere unlike anything I have seen at a festival.
Glastonbury is in itself the most hardcore endurance test for a festival other than burning man. Expect to walk more in 5 days than you ever have, also i don't want to imagine how much different it would be completely covered in mud. The festival is so large that you can't expect to see or find everything even with 5 total days and 2 days where you spend most of the time looking around. It can take up to 45 minutes to walk from one place to another around the site, although most of the stages aren't that far apart unless you are stuck in a huge crowd leaving a set.
In all honesty, as long as you like music, the lineup doesn't really matter. I have seen a good chunk of the bands that played at Glastonbury, and I went to see the ones that I liked and saw some new ones. Sure I was bummed about U2 cancelling, and I have now seen Muse 4 times also (close to burning out on them). Muse had the best crowd I have ever seen at a show, the people don't hold back on their love of music there.
That's all for now., I plan on trying to go back in 2013 if possible. Next year I have other plans and 2012 is the olympics and their year off.

Also, none of my vidoes I posted above work anymore. My youtube account just got deleted. 1000+ videos covering 4 years of concerts and festivals with 1.8 million views is currently being wiped from the youtube servers.

The flags are really part of the environment there. They do get in the way if you are far away, but if you arrive early it's not that hard to get close. I wish I would have had a Texas flag when I was there, but I wouldn't really want to cart it around. I had no problems getting close for Willie and dead Weather at the pyramid or any show on the other stage. Getting to the pyramid or a major show like Fatboy Slim late is a whole other story, we ran into a huge clusterquack of people trying to make it to the Gorillaz and just gave up and headed back to dance village and caught Boys Noize.
My opinion is the flags at glastonbury are just part of the environment. It does make it hard to see if you are far back. It's definitely a toss-up on that end. I couldn't get many good shots of Muse or Thom Yorke because of them. My videos came out great though. Now I just have to reupload them all (annoying).

It looks like it was a crystal castles video that ended up getting my youtube account deleted. Not sure why it matters so much now, but my bonnaroo and funfunfunfest videos of crystal castles never gave me any problems. A couple of those videos had over 10000 and 15000 views. My new account got a strike against it already for my Crystal Castles at Glastonbury video, but I still haven't got any official emails. My old account just got suspended completely so i couldn't even find out what happened.
It seems like future primitive mgmt for crystal castles has been going after everyone since they released their new album. If a video has a song title from the new album it gets flagged. I'm not the only person this has happened to.
End rant.
MY Glastonbury photos are now up to 800 on my facebook page. Check them out. Still have a few more to upload.
