btw, i just read you cant walk around coachella with a beer - wtf? restricted to the beer garden?
Well hell, another injustice. They better not pull that crap at Jazz Fest. Because I fully intend to walk around with drink in hand the entire time. It's Louisiana for Gods Sake.
thanks cindy! my cold is gone, but my seasonal allergies are setting in. neti pot to the rescue.

At first, when I read the schedule, I was thinking that it'd be a pretty good fest, very few conflicts. But then I read this. Toom any restrictions for me. I hope you all that are going have a great time.
A Thieve's Parade 2/24 Conspirator 2/26 Kevin Smith 3/11 Keller 3/17 Papadosio 3/18 JJ Grey 3/25 Bela Fleck/Edgar Meyer 3/26 Toubab Krewe 3/27 O'Death 4/11 Budos Band 4/22 EOTO 4/28 Summer Camp 5/6-29 All Good
for those of us that arent going. you can customize your own webacast schedule here. you can only choose 10 bands and none of the headliners are listed, but it's still pretty cool. apps.facebook.com/fivereact/
It looks like I'm going to have to skip Orbital for Pavement/ Thom.
That hurts me just to read. How wrong is that? I thought MMJ vs S&G was bad at Jazz Fest.
The thing is, I would skip Orbital for Pavement because I already have tickets to see Pavement in Toronto. But, the Sahara is further away from the outdoor than the main, making it harder to get a decent spot for Thom.
I just wish I could camp out at the Main for awhile, but now I can't. Oh well, I guess it's a good problem to have.
i was planning on seeing both gary numan and orbital... pretty annoying conflict. ultimately, i want to see gary numan as a curiosity (aka, listen to: cars, down in the park); but i really enjoy orbital.
pavement had no appeal to me, so while i appreciate everyone else loves them, that wasnt a factor in my consideration.
this plastikman / yorke conflict is annoying - but i suppose i want to see PM because of the staging, not the music. so have to go yorke
my only undercard conflict is The Middle East vs One EskimO - both i want to see, but no burning desire to see either one...
two other things:
1) anyone know how long it typically takes to drive in? i.e. waiting in traffic, security 2) meetup? when? where? any holes in the schedule where we could hit the beer garden?

I think they did a great job with the set times overall, especially on Sunday but:
orbital (only 55 minutes?) / gary numan is really stupid, both early electronic music and have tones of the same fans
fever ray / PiL are probably the two rarest acts on the lineup at the same time
jonsi / charlotte gainsbourgh has lots of people mad
and the biggest thing is why does the Sahara close so early on Sunday? That was kind of a cool little tradition they had going with the Sahara closing the festival out and it made the mainstage sunday night act less crowded.

At first the beer gardens made me say "WTF?" too but I actually like them. They make it so there's way less drunken assholes in the crowd talking over the bands.
Schedule is pretty solid for me. No life-ending sacrifices that I'll have to make. Sunday is perfect. Worst conflict for me is Jay Z - Fever Ray - Deadmau5. But I'll be seeing two of those at Roo, so that makes my decision a little easier...

The biggest consensus of a conflict is definitely friday night. People are complaining about any combination of Jay-Z, Whitest Bot Alive, PiL, Fever Ray, and Deadmau5. Personally I'd be pulling my hair out over Fever Ray or PiL.

I understand why they only gave No-Show Sly 45 minutes on the smallest stage...gotta hedge your bets. But it's kind of disappointing to see bands like Pavement and Faith No More barely getting an hour to play.
I'd be surprised if he played any longer than an hour and a half. Looks like the plan is for everything to be shut down for Gorillaz. I'm also excited/intrigued by the extra long downtime between Pavement and Gorillaz. Must need the extra minutes to put together what is sure to be a spectacular stage design. Gorillaz is going to be insanely crowded, but even more awesome.
Idio - what's your schedule looking like? anyone know how to share Coachooser's with other people? I probably won't be hitting the site until later in the day each day.
Looks like the plan is for everything to be shut down for Gorillaz.
Yann Tiersen will be playing during Gorillaz and it will be awesome. I'd watch Gorillaz for sure but Yann's still great. He's getting the Throbbing Gristle spot from last year. Shutting down the Sahara though, on sunday night, now that's fucked up. Usually the Sahara goes even later than the main stage headliner and closes out the festival. Last year was an exception because The Cure played way over. I'd be kinda pissed about that if I was going. Obviously Gorillaz will have an amazing production but it's great to end the festival dancing in the Sahara. I guess bassface goes sunday night after gorillaz?

The drive in depends on the day and time. Friday's drive in is usually the busiest of the three days since you are getting campers along with others. The earlier you get in, the better. My first year, we waited an hour+ to go 5 miles on Friday at around 3:30 or so. The next year, we headed down at around 1:30 or so and had almost no wait to get in. The drive in Saturday and Sunday has never been bad for me regardless of the time. Getting out can be a little bit of a pain, though.
I am going to be with a group of 16, so I think I will be occupied a lot of the time. If it can be worked out, meet up is definitely possible.
