i'm thinking second weekend. hard to pass up on allman brothers, mmj, black crowes, george clinton and lionel richie the first weekend. but the second weekend is deeper. not really any of my favorite bands other than pearl jam, but lots of legends, bb king, jeff beck, elvis costello, aretha franklin, van morrison, neville brothers, plus dead weather, govt. mule, steve martin, kenny wayne shepherd, derek trucks & susan tedeschi, old crow medicine show, galactic, blues traveler and juvenile!
I can't even read the rest of this thread. I am literally this close to tears because of the MMJ announcement. That is the week I am due Knowing they are playing in my state and I can't go is a HUGE blow.
I'll be experiencing the greatest moment of my life that week (or close to) but it still is a hard pill to swallow knowing I'll be missing MMJ.
I guess there is a slight chance that MMJ or PJ will play a night show. The problem is many of the venues that would host a larger act haven't reopened since Katrina. It may happen but, I'd say unlikely.
I was thinking maybe it is. I hate that facility. I will rejoice if the Saenger and Orpheum ever reopen. What is the name of the small arena at Lois Armstrong park? They used to hold the official nightime Jazzfest shows there.
If anyone does go to a show at the CAC, bring your foldup chairs. Otherwise you are sitting on concrete between shows.
Second weekend will be nuts, for sure. I don't even want to imagine what the Acura Stage is going to look like with Pearl Jam there. Y-i-k-e-s.
OMG! Can you say get there when the gates open and park the chair in a spot and don't expect to BREATHE for the rest of the day! LMAO! I can't EVEN imagine trying to move from like 3 pm on...
I keep seeing Phish or Macca for TBA. It's where you look I suppose.
Having only been to Tipitinas, I'm kinda lost as to where to start keeping my eye open for nightlife. Where does everyone like for aftershows? Any specfic venues?

I'll send you a link that lists virtually every aftershow before, during, in between and after Jazz Fest.
Also, someone on another board said Simon & Garfunkel is the TBA. Same person came through with some names before the lineup was released and they were spot on, so I'm apt to believe him.

Haha, of course I'll be happy to! You just let me know when your flight gets in, and I'll be there Least I can do for someone as awesome as you Druid! I'd offer up a space at my place, but I am pretty sure I am going to have company for both weekends...
"We're no longer called Sonic Death Monkey. We're on the verge of becoming Kathleen Turner Overdrive, but just for tonight, we are Barry Jive and his Uptown Five. "
For anyone who hasn't seen, Band of Horses is playing second weekend and NOT first weekend. Oops!
Aww man, kinda bummed about that change since I was just planning to go the first weekend, but I guess an excuse to take a trip to N.O. two weekends in a row isn't bad.

got a ticket to the second weekend from my wife/Santa Claus. Probably coming from Atlanta alone. I can not wait. .... But she also said "NO CHANCE OF DOING THIS AND 'ROO!"
