Fantastic! I guess the cubes will be out in March, when we can officially grieve the scheduling of Simon & Garfunkel and MMJ at the same time, on opposing stages.

you can see mmj any time. not that many chances to see s&g.
I've seen Paul Simon a few times, including Jazz Fest. MMJ is my favorite band...and I haven't seen them since NYE '08, plus...it's Jazz Fest (my 21st)!
It's going to be a very tough choice for me if they do end up being scheduled at the same time.

Be pretty awesome if they were scheduled at the same time, not on opposing stages, huh?
the fest doesn't look as impressive after it's broken into the days. anyone have a past schedule or know what their schedules usually look like? are all the acts at the top usually playing at the same time?
Generally speaking, yes. Saturday will be S&G on Acura in the closing slot (about 5:30 - 7:00, though they have changed that up on occasion), while MMJ will be on Gentilly at the same time.
Acura stage generally gets all the big names and big, Louisiana names (eg. Elvis Costello, Allen Toussaint), while Gentilly gets the smaller (relatively speaking) names and some of the smaller but popular Louisiana artists (eg. Allman Brothers, Cowboy Mouth). Then you have the rest of the stages (Congo Square, Lagniappe, Fais Do Do, Blues Tent, Gospel Tent, Alison Miner and a handful of others).

I think you're right. Are you doing both weekends or second only? I'm scheduled for first only at this point, but I'm considering second as well.
edit: just saw this...
"Preservation Hall with special guests Jim James and Terence Blanchard" ;D ;D ;D
wow, that's a hidden gem. on that lineup at a certain point it becomes all acts that i don't know so i don't really read all the way down. so i didn't see that till you pointed it out.
Well, if you make the trip, I'd be happy to point out some of the local and lesser knowns...they're often the best part of JF!
I was kind of thinking we might see him with Pres Hall since he recorded an album with them last year. So happy!
Think you could give me the crash course? I'm with sangreal, I don't really know many artists past the top tier. Really pumped about hearing some new stuff, but I don't want to miss some acts that you might consider can't miss.

Greyboy Allstars w/ Kirk Joseph's 504 Brass Band Saturday, May 1 Riverboat Creole Queen Tickets $40 All Ages
Question for the experienced jazz-festers: I'd like to catch one of those Creole Queen shows, but I will probably want to stay for all of the headliners at the festival. Obviously, you can't be late to a show on a boat cruise. How hard is it to make it from the festival to the boat on time?
^^^^^bummer dude, you're gonna be missing out on a helluva time.
Tentatively speaking, I'll be there 1st weekend on Sat. and Sun. and for the 2nd weekend, a day yet to be decided. At this point I'd say Sun. but it very well could be Sat. IDK
I do know that I'll be at that Les Claypool show on the Riverboat though. That is gonna be sick. Also another cool show for the 1st weekend I'm looking at going to.... on Sat. April 24th The Slip/ Surprise Me Mr. Davis/ Marco Benevento Trio at Tipitina's French Quarter at 2 am. Lotus at Tipitina's Uptown at 2 am as well same night. Both are only 20 bucks. The Slip/Marco show is non-smoking though b/c it's part of the Backbeat at Jazz Fest Series....lame sauce
I'm leaning towards Lotus right now

"I just got fragged by a non-working speak." 5 Roo's and counting
Depends on the club show, so I can't really say. Depends on who is playing, where it is and all that jazz. Never been to a Riverboat show, so I can't really comment on that........
My Jazzfest plans have changed. I was all in for the second weekend, but I got a job with the census. I have mandatory training scheduled for the week in between. It looks like I might make first weekend Friday and Saturday.
