i just hope they dont pull a "bonnaroo" and add widespread.......i love the jam, just not so much the herring panic........im pretty disappointed rt now. no add is gonna make up for the lack of pure "fun"...muusically, alot of groups cuold take the lips place and make fans happy....but its not gonna be the same energy and "loudness" of a lips show......damn shame.......i'll just swim in the oilcean during their timeslot.

^^ Thats IF you can even get in the ocean.
I just heard that it's going to be three months before they can even get the spill to stop. I really REALLY hate to be a Debbie Downer but, it's not looking good guys.
If it's true that it's going to take that long then the result is going to be absolutely catastrophic. I really hate that this could potentially ruin the Festival but just think of what's going to happen to the ecosystem there. Wow. Way to go BP.

^^ I hate to say it but I kinda feel the same way. It's sort of a family vacation for us and three of the people going are from Missouri so they rarely get to go to the beach at all. (Being from Indiana I'm sure you get what i'm saying.)
I wonder what the refund status is for the tickets... I guess I need to be looking that up just in case.
update:
I just checked on the Hangout site about refunds and it says that no refunds/exchanges will be given.... WTF?!

holy crap. i was NOT expecting this at all. omg. i'm just in shock. i'm seriously about to cry...the FLips were my biggest reason for going because i STILL have yet to see them live. omg i'm so upset. and now the stupid oil spill. UGH!!!
Ummm....and exactly which festie are ya'll looking at that gives refunds/exchanges/rainchecks for anything? Cause I don't know of any that does...especially for man-made or natural disasters beyond it's control....yeah. Tragic? Yes....Life ending...obviously for some sadly. But for the rest of us life does go on tho altered. If you choose to skip the beach, then certainly your choice but people live there and make their livings there. Life does go on...altered tho it may be.

Nateva Festival was offering refunds to people who didn't like the news that the Late Night acts wouldn't be big name bands like Umphreys or STS9 but smaller bands like Lettuce and EOTO. That was pretty cool of them, but they're only trying to sell 15,000 tickets and seemed to be selling them faster than expected so they felt okay with offering refunds.

Too bad about the Flaming Lips, but I bet they'll find a good replacement. I've actually been really looking forward to Jakob Dylan, Neko Case, etc. and was probably gonna go to that instead anyway.
The oil spill is really terrible, I hope it doesn't adversely affect the area. Unfortunately all we can do is wait and see...

i'm really bummed about this oil spill. not because of the festival, or because i can't enjoy the beach. but just the thought of all the destruction it's doing. and the families who will never have a body to bury. and the animals who will be homeless, or covered in tar. it's heartbreaking
^^^I'm bummed about the eco system but I am really bummed about the economic damage that this is going to cause to the coast - they have only really just recovered from Katrina as far as tourism goes and this is a big blow at the beginning of beach season and then there is the seafood industry to consider - hope no one expects to have any reasonably priced seafood in the years to come - it will take years to recover

Most festivals don't offer refunds/exchanges. I don't know why they would have, especially for something out of their control. :/

double post.
Hippie and I were talking about this earlier. It's going to hurt the coastal economy so much. It's just one thing after another for the coast.
Kinda weird that They havent announced anything about the flaming lips cancelling. I guess they are waiting until (if) they get a replacement.
There was one little blurb on the FB page for the Hangout but it wasn't a post it was a confirmation of the cancellation in the comments of a post
Its in the comments on the post with the shuttle map
The Hangout Beach, Music and Arts Festival Unfortunately, The Flaming Lips have cancelled their date at The Hangout, as well as several other festivals, due to the hospitalization of their lead guitarist. We wish him a smooth and speedy recovery and should have crowd pleasing replacement to announce soon! Fri at 5:45pm

04.29.10 Friday Late Night Show Added! Alex B, Gift of Gab (Blackalicious), and Big Gigantic will play a late night show inside The Hangout. Doors at 11. Tickets are $20 ADV, $25 DOS.
I just saw this this am. Good after party.
Oh and the schedule now has a "TBA" in the Lips spot. So I guess they are actively searching for a replacement.

if they want to move Trey to Saturday, and PHISH ON SUNDAY...i'm ok with that
also, i don't understand their reasoning for having shows like the black crowes and robert randolph earlier in the day than ZBB. it seems backwards, but whatever.
I feel bad for both the festival promoters and all of you good people who are planning to go. unfortunately, both crises, the FLips cancellation, and on a much more massive scale the oil spill, were totally unforseeable.
My heart breaks for the whole Gulf area, that is just starting to recover from Katrina. The impact on the Gulf wildlife and on the economy is going to be devastating.
Although I have resolved that BP will never get another dime of my money - I almost ran out of gas yesterday driving around looking for a non_BP station on my way back from out of town - I also think that the feds should have monitored this situation more closely from the first moment. we should know from prior experience that you can't always depend on oil company executives to tell the truth, even if they do have a correct assessment. If all the government's resources had been pledged from the get-go, we may still be facing the same situation, but at least we would not have to be plagued with questions of what if?
so I give two Big Fat Fail awards - one to BP and one to the Federal Government.
and in the meantime hope and pray that some miracle will intervene to help lessen the situation.

After talking to my dad and the other's going, i'm pretty sure that even if they DID offer refunds we probably wouldn't return our tickets. The gulf beaches need our support and tourism because like a few of you guys said earlier this is really going to hurt them economically. (but to be honest i'm more concerned about the wildlife. It is pretty terrible.
Also, I saw on the news this morning that places like Gulf Shores and Orange Beach (probably others, but these were the two mentioned) are going to take all kinds of measures to keep the beaches clean. How they are going to do this, I don't know.
Either way I'm pretty sure the condo will have a pool.
