I'll be holding off on tickets for a little while, for now, until I get the logistics of this wedding business down.
Did it sell out last year? If so, how long did it take? I would anticipate it to be sooner this year.
VIP wristbands, All Show wristbands, and Clubs Only wristbands all sold out last year. VIP within a couple weeks, All Show and Clubs Only I want to say mid-summer. By the end of the summer, the only thing left were tickets for the Plaza shows
GBV, Toro Y Moi, Budos, Rhys Chatham, Swans and Earth for how much?!?
I just realized that both Purient and Dan Melchior are on this line up. HOLY QUACKIN LENO! Purient never tours and is a monster of a show. If you like noise. And I had no clue Dan Melchior moved to Durham and even recorded. This is the epitome of deep line up.
Cheap hotels in the Raleigh area? Anyone? Anyone?

Prurient can be genuinely terrifying live. Great music, too.

Is VIP worth it? Were there any problems getting into the clubs shows last year?
EDIT: I'm actually considering going cheap and getting the clubs-only pass. The all-show pass is basically the $65 clubs-only pass, plus $20 each for GBV/DBT/Dodos and Flips/Superchunk/Light Pines. I know that's a bargain for both of those shows, but I will be seeing GBV and Superchunk at Pitchfork, and I'll cross of DBT and Flips at Hangout. I'm just a casual fan of all 4 of those bands, so once this year might be enough.
Are there other club shows going on during the Plaza shows? That might be the deciding factor for me. Odds are that I would opt for a club show over one of the Plaza shows anyway.
Prurient is definitely your kinda thing, Bishop. Brutal and noisy. There's a lot of artists on here that are probably your kind of thing, in fact (Rhys Chatham G3, Oxbow, Barn Owl, Liturgy, etc.). Just head over to the website and click "lineup," they have songs up from most of the artists on the lineup.
And yes, kyejwe, VIP was insanely worth it last year. It was a long wait for some of the biggest club shows last year, VIP more or less got you right in (sometimes you had to wait in a line a few people long). If you're going to be seeing a lot of the avant-garde/noise shit, though, I don't think you'll need a VIP ticket.
I feel pretty ignorant looking at that lineup...I only know a few bands and the Flaming Lips. I'm going to have to do some research I'd hate to miss out on shows just cause I don't know who any of the bands are yet.
^^Best Coast was supposedly impossible (but I got right in as the show was starting with the VIPs), as was Future Islands
I was there for both Best Coast and Future Islands! Admittedly, I did want to see Cults who played before Best Coast, so I was at that venue about an hour and a half before Best Coast even started. Future Islands was not a problem to get into. I maybe waited 3 minutes for it.
